Well, unfortunate news.... Won't post, keep getting A6 post code. Won't let me flash still, tried another 4 usb drives and all of them give me post code E4.

I'm kind of stuck at a point of purchase another cpu and hope it works or purchase another motherboard...

Try grabbing a different USB stick. According to Luumi, it seems it may be the USB stick compatibility

Finally got it to take the new bios! Though still getting poste code A6... Time to do more digging.

Was naming the file "EVGAE799.bin" not "EVGAE799"

appreciate that info, ill just remove that damn thing.  Also, why are my core VID's showing 1.515v but i set an "override" Vcore to 1.375v?  HWInfo is showing VR OUT @ 1.376v so im NOT feeding the CPU 1.515 but why are my VIDS showing that high? WHat am i doing wrong?  Motherboard is z790 kingpin btw on bios 1.11

why am I dropping 100mhz core speeds when im stress testing the cpu.  Bios 1.11 dark kingpin.  I have per core OC selected, 60x multi, bclk @ 101 AVX offset "0" and im dropping 100mhz core clocks.  Everything in bios is set to force a given speed.  What is going on here?

At least it was an easy fix!

this was fixed with using the latest microcode in the bios.  If you select the old microcode no matter what I did above multi 60... it would downclock 100Mhz no matter what.  Use the latest microcode option in the bios completely fixes this BUT... temps are now reporting 10-15c higher across the board!  Hope this helps someone

Sleep function is broken when using XMP or anything except base memory speed. Putting the machine to sleep it will restart when woken up instead of resuming previous state.

On the my Z690 dark this was an issue with the later bios and fast boot had to be enabled for sleep to work properly, on the z790 dark it wont resume from sleep regardless of setting.

This occurs booting from a SATA SSD, When XMP is enabled. Setting factory defaults machine will resume from sleep. This occurs with 3 different XMP kits of different makes and even on Green Hynix A-Die sticks that have no XMP that are all 12hr+ Ramtest stable however with any form of XMP or elevated mem speeds from base, Sleep function is always broken.

I am unable to use XMP at all with the 1.11 bios. Boot always hangs at code 04. If I manually set memory to 5600 MT/s, it will boot, but no higher. If I use the BIOS selector switch to switch to the previous bios, XMP will work again, but I lose the new features.

Of course this process also removed my Windows 11 Pro activation, which I paid the full $200 price for, so it’s doubly frustrating.

I’ve tried G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB kits of 7200, 6400 (x2 including a non RGB kit), and 6000 to no avail. Always clearing CMOS first.

His inbox may show full but typically the message still goes through and Lee will just need to delete some messages to read yours.

I have replied to your PM and attached a video that hopefully helps debug the issue.

I have worked around the XMP issue. I happen to have an 7200 MT/s A-Die kit and loaded the Luumi "all day" profile. 5.7 GHz all core / 8000 MT/s memory. So far so good...
