I'm looking forward to seeing this build progress.

BTW - did you blur the background in PS? It looks slightly 'off' -- (not in a bad way!) just odd is all.

I used this opportunity of taking down my rig to also get some major, major dedusting in.

A shot before taking stuff down. That Frio is HUUUUGE, and I'm going to keep referencing that later on in my posts. Before taking this down, I was using an i3-530 to tide me over until a good deal on the i5 came out. And guess what. They were on Newegg for $170 a few days ago! So I took that deal and got ready to roll around in i5-ness.

Tools of the trade. That yellow pincer thing comes in real handy when I'm putting in screws at the top of the board. For those of you who are unaware, mid-towers that are bottom PSU mounted have very, very little space at the top of the case for putting your hand. Even with my small hands, it's pretty darn hard to put in hold down screws, take them out, and especially putting in the 8-pin ATX at the top right corner.

    Something seems to be missing...

Ah! There you are my P55. In between this picture and the next few, I pulled out everything except the fans and the DVD drive.

Haha, you noticed. I was mainly blurring out the laundry air drying in the back with a quick and shoddy Gaussian Blur. Don't want you guys peeping at drying undergarments!

Prepare to be annihlated dust, as you face the awesome wrath of 60 PSI air pressure!

    Ah. Nice and clean.

While I'm here, here's a quick shot of a simple mod. I had an extra 120mm fan, so instead of putting to rot on my bookshelf of computer things (picture of that later!), I ziptied it to take up the 3 5.25 inch bays that I wasn't using. Moar airflow!

    Much, much cleaner!

Here, I have cannibalized the kitchen counter to lay out everything. Time for a rebuild!

And before I forget, here's an awesomesauce picture of these awesomesauce PCI-E extensions made by Crysis_Gamer!

Does something seem wrong to you? Nothing that I see. The Frio is so large that you have to mount the motherboard the cooler itself. Removal is pretty much the same process. 4 nuts on the back, a backplate, and with a little force...pow! Separation!

Nice spread on the IC Diamond! But what am I to do about the residue?

Look look! It's everyone's hero, 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and Q-Tips Man!

As hard as I tried, I just couldn't get all of it off of the i3. IC Diamond just sticks!

Poppin' the cherry with my i5-760.

Woaaaah. A sticker AND a processor? Those guys at Intel sure know what guys like me are looking for in a box.

Time for a shot of IC Diamond!

Such is the sad story of the processor. Never again will it know true cleanliness such as this after meeting Mr. IC Diamond.

In Soviet Russia, heatsink mount you.

Another picture to reinforce the massive size of this heatsink.

Just barely, barely cleared the board's heatsinks. I was very scared that the Frio would bump up against them when I was ordering it. Fortunately, I was able to stalk/track down some members on the forums here who were using Frios with P55 FTWs. Thankfully, they confirmed that it did fit fine! So with confidence, I ordered the Frio and used it.

DDR3, here I come! Finding this was a nice surprise on Newegg. The kit I was going for was from G.SKILL, a DDR3-1600 kit with 9-9-9-28 timings. I'd used the same kit in a few builds prior to mine for friends and my brother. Then I saw this Mushkin kit for the same price, only with 7-10-10-24. CAS7 over CAS9? Seemed like a good idea.

This thumbs up reinforces me thinking that this was a good idea.

A medal goes to whoever at Intel decided to use the further away RAM slots on the P55 as primary slots. I could have fit those sticks in the first ones though.

Remounting my 750TX means...it's cable management time!

It's at times like this that I wish that I had a modular power supply.

Quick digression - I love Cooler Master's hard drive mounting system. So much.

Running shot! Nice, bright, and blue.

Equally stunning at night. I'm thinking that a cold-cathode on the bottom would be a nice little upgrade in the future. Anybody got links to good blue one?

    Front night shot.

At this point, I'm tweaking the overclock on my i5. I've clocked up my GTX 460 to 850/1700/2000 (a nice OC from 763/1526/1900!). I'll post back again later with those screenshots.

In response to introducing Mr. Case to Mr. 60 PSI, ain't it lovely? I went out and bought a 26 gallon air compressor yesterday and one of the first things I did w/ it was clean my old Antec 1200 out - Gotta love it.

    No more buying canned air!

    Overclocked to 3.8!

That probably isn't a very good indication of idle temps, as I pulled Aura from her GPU3 folding just for this pic. The 460 idles around 40 or so, and 36-37 is what I've seen as idle on my i5.

Oh yeah? I considered that when I was buying this case. I'm a little concerned about the top rad though. Would you put the radiator on one side, and then the fans on the other?

yeah radiator is in the case and the fans are actually outside the case but covered by the top panel
