Has anyone ever used one of these cards with success in a X299 Dark?

I don't see why it wouldn't. It's just a PCIe x16 NVMe M.2 add in card with ASUS branding on it.

Intel i9-10850K @ 5 GHz
MSI MEG Z490 Unify
Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB 3600MHz DDR4
ASUS Strix RTX 3080 OC 12GB Gaming @ 2175 MHz core - peak \ 20004 MHz mem
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD
2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB NVMe M.2 SSD RAID 0
SoundBlasterX AE-5
EVGA SuperNova 1000 P2
Corsair Obsidian 500D SE
Custom water cooling on CPU & GPU

The slot used would have to support bifurcation of the PCIE lanes, or only a single m.2 drive would be seen.

Sounds like a question for EVGA's support folks, not end users: https://www.evga.com/about/contactus/

Based on the specs of the card, it requires Intel VROC support which the x299 Dark supports. It only supports Intel SSDs though.

ASUS: Features - RAID function Support:
Intel® VROC ready for X299, Z370 and Z390 Series Motherboard models. (It supports Intel® SSDs only.)
AMD® X399/X470/B450/X370/B350 Series Motherboard models*

* Maximum number of M.2 SSD support will vary, depending on different CPUs. Please see the FAQ link for further information:

not wanting to use it for bootable raid so i think VROC isnt as important. I think VROC RAID0 non bootable works in VROC passthrough for non Intel Drives. I already have dual m.2 Intel drives on the board in bootable RAID0 with intel 760 drives.

I have not talked to anyone or seen one of these drives used on any of our boards that support m.2 but it would be interesting to confirm its compatibility.

I did talk to a customer recently who confirmed incompatibility with an NVMe drive from Western Digital on the latest BIOS for the X299 Dark so a lot of hardware out there is left to trial and error.

Found this: https://pcper.com/2017/10/intel-vroc-tested-x299-vroc-vs-z270-rst-quad-optane-vs-quad-960-pro/

Looks like the MB would need BIOS support for VMD.

"On the 'piecemeal' topic, we need three things for VROC to work:
  • BIOS support for enabling VMD Domains for select groups of PCIe lanes.
  • Hardware for connecting a group of NVMe SSDs to that group of PCIe lanes.
  • A driver for OS mounting and managing of the array."

Not sure if the x299 Dark has the VMD support in BIOS...........

Hi
It works on the x299 Dark but be sure u have enough lanes free, if not u wont see all 4 m2 ssd`s.
If u would like to boot u have to use intel m2
Just for data any other brand should work

Hi
I tested it with intel 760p in raid0 bootabel without any key.
Also tested with 970 but just for data not for boot.
