I noticed a few Asus monitors going for cheaper than Acer or even Samsung monitors. Just wondering about the quality of them. Anyone had some experience with one?

I'm using an ASUS VW246H 24"/1080p monitor.  I got it for $200 at the egg on black friday, and it looks amazing compared to my 22" samsung.  Obviously, it's not the best monitor out there, but it's still one that I'm happy with.

I have an ASUS 21.5" 1080p on my rig and it's still looking awesome after a year. On the other rig I've got a 23" ASUS, and it's nice.

    So I say yes.

I have a good friend who is a master photographer who just bought 3 of the 24 inchers. They are fantastic. Look almost as good as the high resolution Apple monitors. He actually has to use a spider to dull the colors slightly for print matching of his photos. If I hadn't just bought 2 Acers, I would buy these immediately.

I'm not sure whether Asus have any IPS panels to offer. If they do they might be worth a look i guess. Dell is generally considered the best "cheap" option though.

    InputUsername and WildDog are correct.

ASUS is nothing groundbreaking, but I wouldn't throw it away if I got one for free, lol.

Odds are the acer and asus monitors are made in the same factory.   Unless you are the type who demands the very best contrast, picture quality, and color reporduction I see no reason not to pick up an asus monitor on the cheap.

Alienware, Acer, and Asus all use the same company to get the panels and hardware

Samsung, Viewsonic and LG visits random companies to get the hardware and panels

Most of the times Samsung makes their own panels and hardware that is why they are expensive

It's good to hear that someone in the photogrpahy area has used Asus monitors for work. But from my experience with displays and color I have only trusted NEC monitors, Dell ultrasharp displays and a few samsung displays that guarantee 100% srgb reproduction. This is assuming of course that you need accurate colors for what you're doing. Otherwise, I would choose any old monitor that can offer the highest resolution with the best prize and screen size. I know that if you're going to be using this monitor for gaming you might want the get some more details on repsonse time and contrast ratio. Always good to be an educated consumer.

Hmm. Thanks for the replies but I find it incredibly hard to pick a monitor. I'm probably just going to get something with response time of 2ms with 1080p and HDMI, RGB and DVI (is there much of a difference in DVI types?).

I was going to go with a 24 inch but what's one more inch? It's also a lot better than what I have now. A 17 inch SD Samsung.

I got me Asus VW246H in late 2008, still running, no dead pixels.  If this thing runs at least another 15 months, then I'll praise Asus from the hills, until then I'm just using it.

I think if you pick a monitor with a longer warranty, you're covered from the chances it will kick early and it also means quality of features are up to par to sustain use for that long.  For example, don't buy a popular name brand if they only warrant one year, unless you don't mind upgrading again.

I have three VW224U monitors used for 2 years, now in my surround setup. Great OSD options and build quality, customer service and RMA is quick and easy just call and ask for one! No series of questions or checklists to go through! I've never had to RMA I just did a test run lol

Been using an ASUS 27" monitor for a little over a year.  Absolutely no problems.  I've seen better pictures before, but for the specs on the these and the price, it is definitely the best bang for your buck.  Get it.

Here's one of SWG. My FPS is so low because I'm running on integrated graphics at the moment, waiting for my new rig.

And here's what it looks like

It's a W2353V if anyone cares to know.
