Over the past few months rumours surrounding AMD's next-generation RDNA products has been coming in thick and fast, especially with regards to RDNA 2 and AMD's Navi 20 series of graphics chips. 

Rumours, which stem from unconfirmed sources, have started propagating which suggest that AMD's upcoming "Navi 21" silicon will feature 80 total compute units (CU), doubling the CU count of AMD's Radeon RX 5700 XT. 

These rumours stem from zhangzhonghao, who posted information surrounding Navi 21 on Chiphell and machbbs. When these reports are correctly translated, zhangzhonghao also reports that his source also claims that Navi 21 will feature AMD's RDNA 2 graphics architecture and support for hardware-accelerated raytracing. 

In our testing across most modern AAA titles, AMD's Radeon RX 5700 XT competes with Nvidia's RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 in most cases. We have also found that in GPU-limited scenarios, Nvidia's RTX 2080 Ti can offer a 2x performance boost over Nvidia's lower-end RTX 2060. If AMD's GPU clock speeds remain high with Navi 21, this should make AMD's 80 CU graphics card more powerful than Nvidia's RTX 2080 Ti.

Die size-wise, AMD's Radeon RX 5700 XT silicon takes up roughly 251 square millimetres of space. Microsoft's recently pictured 7nm Xbox Series X silicon is reported to be approximately 407 square millimetres in size. This means that a Radeon graphics card with 2x as many CUs as AMD's Radeon RX 5700 XT should be easily manufacturable. If a console chip can be over 401 square millimetres in size, AMD could certainly make a high-end graphics card that's 450-500 square millimetres.   

While zhangzhonghao's reported regarding AMD's Navi 21 silicon could prove to be inaccurate, there is no doubt that AMD could produce a larger Navi graphics card should they wish to. AMD's CEO has even confirmed that a "big Navi" graphics card was coming, though it remains to be seen what form this "big Navi" graphics card will come in. I personally really hope these rumors are true. I'd love to see AMD compete strongly in the GPU market again and maybe force NVIDIA to lower prices. 
 

I think AMD president said the BIG Navi  will appear before end of 2020

Wild "warped" case on that one pictured ... one has to wonder if that is a rendering - eye candy that never makes it to retail
 
 

Will be interesting to see. Hopefully this card comes sooner rather than later. I'm sure this card is their "Nvidia Killer". But it'll need a speedy release to beat Nvidia to its 3080 release which no doubt would make things far more competitive.

It will be interesting to see the price and performance. Also they probably will need to add hardware ray tracing to the card since a lot of people won't want a card that is as good as a 2080Ti without ray tracing at the price these cards are probably going to be. The biggest factor is the 2080Ti becoming two years old this fall. While we don't know exactly when the next generation will drop it could be that AMD will be late to the party of trying to bring a fight to the 2080Ti.

Two 5700 XT in crossfire pretty much match a 2080 Ti, so it's not too hard to come up with a rumor that the new card will have twice the cores.  
 
Surely AMD will deliver.

AMD has not discussed much about new video cards with big chip yet.
 
TSMC has not done anything either aside from taking a contract from Intel to make Xe chips.
