Thank you ssiperko1. We will wait and see.....

Fingers Crossed.  I can't even get scores near my 780Ti's. I pushed the cards, and my old scores (granted, during the middle of winter with much more time spent benching) were about 1,000 points higher.  Just got to figure out how to make these cooler.. Thinking Drying ice on the radiators with some insulation to keep it from having 100% contact on the radiator itself.

That won't happen, unfortunately. It would be awesome if they did.

Yeah with all the negatives and fiascos surrounding the 980KP it would be a cool thing for EVGA to do to make up for it

What's the thoughts on price?  $799?  I think $849 is getting too close to the Titan X.

I'd think $850 or more, the 980 KP is $300 more than the vanilla 980.

Yes, close to the Titan X, but it will out perform it.

It was also the same price (the KP 980) as the 980 Hydro Copper (both $799) (at least I think it was) so maybe that'll be the case here too where it's the same price as the 980 ti Hybrid....although I would guess $850 if I had a guess.  It would blow me away if they had a hybrid version with a similarly lit frame as the non hybrid version.  I'm going hybrid this round either way.

I know this is the 980ti KPE, but over on the KPE forums, where 95% of users that own these cards will never visit or even know exist, K|ngp|n poses a very good question that some should consider prior to purchase.

This came about after another user mentioned that the 980KPE scales terribly on Air.. Since.. the card was never meant for Air, Vince posed this question:

k|ngp|n
I have to ask, if just a little bit of mild overclocking (air-water temps with some minor voltage scaling is what you want, why by a KPE card that is designed to take the worst possible beating at 2ghz+ extreme overclocking with massive voltage? I'm happy and honored you purchased the card, but this is why evga offers many skus of each gen. They are all tailored for the end user specific needs. Sounds like just normal classified or even SC card would be equally suited in this case. That being said, it seems like the KPE card is popular with all PC enthusiasts not just the extreme guys. That's why I'll continue to try and make the card more balanced no matter what the need for it is  Lemme see what I can do on this bios, Ill keep working on it and thanx for the feedback.

I post this, because if people are depressed when the 980ti KPE launches because it isn't scaling on AIR, they shouldn't be blaming someone that designs the card to run on anything but air and water.  T|n is even suggesting people to use Chilled water loops so they can overclock further.. I personally, have my pots ready to be installed. I haven't figured out exactly what causes my driver error in windows, but once I do, I plan to use the cards as designed, not on air or water, until I get tired of overclocking and only then will I pack them into the waterloop.

Inst he contradicting himself? Didn't he post that the 980 kpe should hit 1600 just on air when most of us cant even get to 1600 on water? The new bios did nothing for me but get me even lower clocks. I had no issues getting to 1530 and now with new bios and current drivers i cant even get to 1500. No matter how hard i push the voltage...... & my temps never went above 41c trying to bench.....

Also i think your link is dead...getting dns error...

"It also addresses some voltage scaling issues with the gpus on air/water. Some cards can gain 50-100mhz where previously stuck at mid to low 1500's, now can scale better with volts at warm temps. 1.35-1.4v seems to be the sweet spot for maxing out on most cards. KP980 is DESIGNED to take voltage and scale with it, so card can easily handle that at air temps even"

Re: 980 Ti Kingpin 2015/06/14 11:09:11 (permalink)
Yes, but like he states, every GPU is different.  I didn't realize I have both of the overvolt dipswitches turned on, and when I turned those off, my cards cooled down a heck of a lot.  Now that I figured that part out, I will actually give it a try.

You have to also imagine, a guy that spends his every waking moment overclocking a card is GOING to get more performance out of the same card.  That is a guarantee.  Most people don't even know what controls do what in the voltage controller, or in the EVbot.  I didn't realize that there are 8 settings to go through in the EVBot for the 980 KPE when the 780 only had 3.

Knowing how to do something and being able to do it the same as a professional is completely different things.  99% of people buying these cards will never be able to overclock them like, even on LN2. That is a guarantee.

So the old evbot works with the newer 980 cards and provides additional selections or to get them is there a new evbot firmware that must be installed in the evbot?

Every card that the old evbot is attached to requires a firmware update specific to the card/motherboard.

The new EVBot, in the Z10 Keyboard, will not require a flash for older cards.  They say it will be backward compatible.

AMD's launch should have zero effect on the KP 980 Ti or the schedule.

I imagine amd won't affect it since they would still have to have it priced in between the ti's and the titan x.  :(

the fury x will only have 4 gb vram, if so it wont be better than 980 it or titan x it will just off trades due to games that demand more than 4 gb of vram. now the 395x2 will be the king for sure.

AMD is saying that 4gb of HBM is equivalent to 6gb of DDR5, supposedly.. which would make it perfectly fine where it sits.  THe 395x2, or whatever they call it, (Fury x2 makes more sense, since they are the same Fiji Die) will have crossfire style tech, so 4gb per gpu.. IF DX12 allows it to use that as 8gb, then and only then would it make it more than 4gb usable..

All I know, is that I expect that NVidia will mysteriously announce a Dual GPU card soon.. I would still like to see NVidia unlock Double Precision on the Titan X, since it was disable through a driver between the 780/ti and Titan/Black.  That means they can probably do the EXACT same thing with Titan X, and they should.

Still think 2 single cards are better overall though.  You can't disable one of the cards when they are stacked together in a dual gpu card can you?

For thread topic sake, when is the KP getting announced.  Everything is so quiet around it.

Vince has said they are going to sell it in a way that has never been done before.. I have no idea what he meant, but I am ready to see this, lol.

As for the release, it will probably be after the Classified.  To date, it has always been well after the classified, which hasn't been officially announced yet.  JayzTwoCents address the custom PCB's, which we not prepped prior to release supposedly, when he did the video on the G1 Gaming.

And no, you can not disable the second GPU on a single PCB as far as I know.. I have never owned a Dual GPU card though.
