I remember exactly where I was, what I was doing, the radio Station I was listening to and the program at the time the events started, as I was driving to work. As soon as the second plane hit, and the announcers got over their own doubts of a potential error in the reporting, I pulled into the first gas station I could and fueled up. Immediately I started calling my employees and told them to stay home with their families. We shut down our 200 employee business for 8 days...

Do you remember?

Yes, I remember. I was asleep in English class when a classmate woke me up to show me what was on the news. I was horrified as were most of the other students.

I came home from playing outside(while I was back in romania) and my grandma told me the US is in trouble, and that a plan crashed in the building. I was 9 years old.

I was standing inside a secure facility at Ramstein AB, Germany watching it unfold on CNN.  We were giving a tour of the facility to the new General in command.  As soon as he saw what happened, he went into command mode and started directing everyone into action.  All the Airmen in my shop were told to patrol the fence perimeter just in case the attacks were not isolated to the world trade center.  Within a week, I was pulled from my squadron and place on augmentee duty for the Security forces because the base was in Threatcon Delta for the next 3 months.  During that time I worked 16 hours a day guarding the base gates so that the security forces could be deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

I was about 5 or 6 I think. I was sick and stayed home from school. I was just playing with some toys in the living room and my parents were watching it horrified. I was too young to know what was going on.

Hey Afterburner, just curious man... have you built a bomb shelter yet?  I would of never thought about stopping to a gas station first. Great idea.

Why did you shutdown for 8 days though... that is a bit much IMO. And yea do you have a bomb shelter haha.

It was around 5 or 6 in the morning when I was roused from sleep by my mom, panicked. Dad had called us from halfway from around the world to tell us to turn on the news. We spent the rest of the morning sitting there, in horror.

i was in the 3rd grade, the teachers left every class room and had a quick meeting, we were all worried and were wondering what was going on. when our teacher came back crying we knew something was really wrong and then the principle told us what happened (i think, its kinda fuzzy)

my dad was home that day, he brought my little brother (who was 2) to the end of our block, we live on a bay, they watched the buildings collapse

I remember that I was walking back from the library with the rest of the class, when my mother pulled up and said get in the car.

My father was at home distraught, (22 years in the Navy) (Retired)

He wanted the kids home, as he said that there was a possibility that the US may call on higher ranked retired forces to report back to their bases. Thankfully this didn't happen, but knowing my dad, he would have packed his parachute bag, tossed it in the truck, hugged us all goodbye and been on his way.

Then I find out from my grandpa that my great grand father was staying in tower two. He is deaf, and was with dennis, I can't remember how dennis is tied into the family something distant. Anyway, dennis woke up when the first plane hit, and told my great grand father that they needed to go. Of course my great grandfather wanted to pack everything then leave. Luckilly dennis convinced him to leave it.

Every year at the family reunion, you can see a piece of a shirt that was ripped off by some young man who gave it to my great grandfather to help him breath. We even still have the keycard to the room. To think what would had happened had he waited another 10 minutes to leave. My great grandfather passed away just 3 years ago I loved him dearly, a truly great man.

I flew in to NYC from o/seas the day before 911 to live with my g/f - I had never been to NYC previously.

My g/f and I were just leaving our new apartment when the first plane hit - she was going to work, and I was intending to check out the WTC and other sights in Manhattan. As we were leaving the building, our doorman stopped us and told us the first plane had just hit a minute or two ago.

We immediately went back upstairs to our apartment and watched the horror unfold on television (and watched from our building as the smoke billowed out over Manhattan). There were small pieces of burned paper fluttering down past our apartment windows. Surreal.

My g/f freaked as her Dad worked right there and he always started work early. Fortunately he was ok, although it took him the whole day walking completely covered in ash and dust etc. to get back to their apartment in Brooklyn.

Nearly 10 years later and we're still here (and still together).

I was at work, we were listening to the radio as it unfolded. I remember listening as the towers fell and we just kept working, not realizing the magnitude of what was happening. It wasn't until I returned home after work and watched the video that it really struck me what had happened. I guess we just couldn't wrap our heads around the fact something so horrible could happen without actually seeing it.

I was in high school in my Biology class. Vice Principle came over PA and had teachers turn on their TV's(ones mounted up and connected to cable) and saw the second plane hit(can't get it out of my head, was hard to type that). I wasn't there an cant begin to think what it must have been like to be in NY to physically see that.

I was about 10 years old, a neighbor came knocking on our door and panicking telling my parents we were being attacked and to turn on the news. We turned on the TV and were in complete shock and awe that we were watching something like this unfold in our very eyes. Terrible tragedy RIP to all the victims and my heart goes out to all the family of the victims as well.

    Re:9/11, Ten Years Later... 2011/08/14 09:59:34 (permalink)
10 years ago, at around the same time, was just getting up after deciding to sleep in late and arrive late at my morning class. I was going to my local College and starting my degree in Information Systems management. Dreery eyed from over sleeping and not really wanting to pay attention to my instructors lesson, I fired up my computer terminal and decided to browse through my usual tech and computer forums for something worthy of my time.

I was immediately struck by the major forum topics of the day on the main page in big bold letters " New York attacked! WTC buildings on fire!!!! WTC collapsed! Pentagon attacked, on fire!!"

Wondering what in the hell was going on I verbally called out loud to the entire classroom right in the middle of my instructors speech

"Ummm, can someone tell me what the hell is going on in New York?

I still remember the entire room going deafly quiet as 30+ people slowly turned their heads towards me with looks of surprised, shock and even some anger towards me. My instructor looked at me with both somewhat disbelief and disdane

"You don't know Bryce? I think you better go to the study hall"

Without a second thought, I threw myself outa my chair and ran across the campus full tilt and barged into the cafeterial study area were they had set up a makeshift TV and stand. Surrounding it were well over a hundred students, faculty and teachers with various looks of shock, horror, surprise and even some crying. I ran to the TV just in time to see the second tower collapse on the news feed. It wasn't until the newscaster was saying something to the effect of

"The WTC are gone, the second tower collapsed, its gone...its just gone"

did I realize what had happened. I fell sick to my stomach and for the first time in my life, didn't know what to feel or think as I stared at the TV for what seemed to be hours. After watching the replays of the planes smashing into the towers, the pentagon burning and the crashed plane in the field, I felt sick and utterly numb in my entire body. I slowly dragged myself to back class and tried to concentrate on my studies but my mind was completely gone through the entire day.

I came home after school and watched more news feeds of the events with my parents, not saying alot until I had to go work my late shift at Wal-Mart. It wasn't any better there, I hardly spoke with anyone and didn't really need to, the store was eerily quiet with only the soft murmor of shocked and stunned conversation between people of what had transpired that day. Even the Wal-Mart satellite feed had been switched to CNN coverage of the 9/11 tragedy and I spent most of that very quiet evening in the electronics dept of Wal-Mart, watching the world change via a wall of TV's showing me the cruel reality of what had happened that day.

During that time I was in charge of a corporate network. I fed the live feed to my system at the time in the server room. Made a quick call and told the owner what was happening and then told everyone to go home to be with their families. As I was, and am to this day, single I stayed there to watch it unfold with amazement.

We then began to organize a relief effort to send people and supplies to them at the owners request.

(I know this is all a bit early to contemplate since it's just a short while before the anniversary but it is good to remember and realize what happened.)

I was driving to work and drove bye the pentigon about ten minutes before the plane struck it. Had no idea what was going on cause I was playing AC/DC HellsBells all the way in. It was already going to be a day from hell that got worse.

I remember I was just getting out of school *was in fourth grade then* and I was really wanting to go to McDonald's because they had those bionicle toys.  My mom was telling me we can't something happened. *The school did not let us out yearly or do anything they just kept us going so I was not informed.   Later when we got home all that was on the tv we had was the news showing.  Just the replays of that horrible ascendent.  To a four year old it really did not mean anything but now when I look back on it it grinds my heart.

That was no accident Shuriken, but I know what you mean. I unfortunately watched the whole thing on TV from the moment they announced planes were hijacked. It was a day beyond belief. It is very important that we never forget.

I still have video footage of my family visiting the observation deck.

Edit: this is my Brother-in-law he made this song after his oldest daughter(my niece) drew a picture of the event. Proceeds from selling the c-d's went to the families of the victims.
