You will never burn up this card with stock backside cooling, it just won't run as high of clocks due to relatively higher temps for those pushing these cards to the heavens lol

ok, so since I plan to run stock settings, I should be fine.

I don't even need to overclock my 3070 for my games since my monitor is currently only 1080p

Thanks,

I'm using 3x vardars (push) and 3x ml120 (pull). Ambient air entering is usually around 35c because its a top exhaust. Still seems a little hotter than expected. What is your delta temp on die? This puts mine at a shade under 30c.

As i'm not running a 30xx card yet... but my rig  has 2 XE 360 up top in a case labs M8. 6 varders in push pull around 900-1000 rpm. 5 varders in front supplying cool air. the 9900k while gaming sits around 45-50c and the 1080ti well it doesn't touch 45c. Just waiting to get a 3090 or a 3080 or even a 3080 ti. Been in que forever now.

someone needs to cnc a backplate with wc or fan mount.

I am worried about burning up a $2500 card.

What I meant was that to get these benchmark high scores like these nutcase are doing, requires extra cooling, most usage of this card doesn't require extreme cooling modifications, this HC cooler is already phenomenal on its own
Edit- of course those running LN2 and DI will already have a kp hybrid by now, which is 300 bucks cheaper then the hc

I was wondering what Wattage KP draws in default settings and has anyone got an undervolt that could drop 120+ watts and maintain almost stock performance?

460 for the 4x8gb 4000cl15 kit rgb series vs your royal series

Taint no way in H-e-double-hockey-sticks I'm getting anything but Royal.  I actually care about the look & I love the diffusers on the Royal line now that I've seen them in person.  I know it's bonkers to pay $40 more for a look, but I'm doin' it if I decide to get them. lol

Eh, not really something you actually need to worry about, you can spend less than $100 on better pads & some heatsinks & get the backplate side stuff cool, and if you're running a HydroCopper Kingpin, the face side is already going to be cool enough.

That looks awesome - but it won't work with Kingpin cards, the layout is different enough compared to an XC3 that it would not be compatible with the HydroCopper or stock card I don't think.

He's quite right - you can just add heatsinks to the back of the card, which some people have done, with no other modifications, and even just that will drop your memory temperatures a weebit - with no taking apart of the card required.  The Kingpin comes with stock pads between the backplate & the backside VRAM as well as the backside of the GPU Die - they're not "great" pads, but they do a well enough job.  The problem with the backplate stock is, it's acting as a heat spreader - there's no fins or anything to help get the heat out where it can be dissipated easier, adding heatsinks fixes that.

Technically speaking the 2100MHz @ 1025mV undervolt that I run probably does that.  I haven't actually tested it extensively - I know it's stable because I run it for less intensive games (CS:GO and whatnot) because it's still higher than the stock boost clocks, and 1025mV draws way less power, and runs cooler, than stock, by a fair bit.

I'll have to run a quick bench at some point & see what it draws in comparison to stock or my 2160 @ 1068mV settings.

For stock arse-stock draw, it is usually in the 400-480W range - some games and benchmarks can get it up near 500 at stock, apparently Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition is one of them, I haven't played it yet ^_^ looking forward to it.

That bassard stole my idea? J/K I do find it funny that a major youtube tech channel is covering it at all though.  Almost all of them have mentioned how hot the VRAM gets on 3090s but I don't know how many have actually mentioned how simple the solution can be.  Especially on anything with a decent (and importantly, metal) backplate.

I was browsing ebay, and it looks like maybe scalpers didn't get the kingpin HC. There is still only the 1 listing. I figured if they did, there would be more than 1 posting.

Is this an ftw3? I thought they weren’t at the Kingpin yet. I’d actually regret buying my HC block today if the optimus is around the corner 🤦‍♂️

I do believe it's an FTW3.  Imma derp for even asking if it was still an AIOed card or a HC lol Pretty sure it's a FTW3 that was converted to Optimus block usage.

that is pretty good temps for mining on ftw3 with optimus block, given KP improved PCB and higher bin chip, means there is room for improvement when Optimus releases their block for KP cards

MMM MMM nonono.  This thread is for all 3090s mate, it's no problem at all!  Even not eVGA 3090s are welcome, it's just straight about showing what you've done in terms of cooling & what your numbers are, we are not SKU or brand bias here :-D

For the VRAM/Memory specifically I'm very sure it's 2mm both front and back, if you're trying to get the 12.8Wm/K pads to replace the stock ones. I used 2mm on the die side of the Thermalright 12.8W pads, and I double-stacked 1mm pads on the backplate side VRAM of the same, so 2mm should be right.

I'm not sure what the size is on the VRM pads, I didn't change those from what comes stock on the block.

Stock paste for mine was very dry & had poor contact in some areas of the die. If you upgrade The thermal pads on the VRAM on both sides you'll likely notice a decent temperature improvement which can be furthered by doing the mods in this thread.

Hi guys,
i have new rtx 3090 kngpn hybrid. So my question is worth changing all thermal pads and paste? Or stock is good and its not worth?

Stock paste for mine was very dry & had poor contact in some areas of the die. If you upgrade The thermal pads on the VRAM on both sides you'll likely notice a decent temperature improvement which can be furthered by doing the mods in this thread.

Thank you
so you only recomened change thermal pads on the vram yes? What size mm i need to change pads in vram or add new ?
I have hybrid cooler

2mm pads on both sides of the PCB for the VRAM/memory.  I would go with the highest wattage dissipation you can get if you're willing to spend the money.

For the backplate you asked in PMs, you really only NEED to do the memory - the VRM/power areas of the card can also use it, but they're not as important because the VRMs on the card already run pretty cool.  So it would be just the chips around the GPU die's backside:

So the green ones all around the GPU die backside.  The red would be 1.5mm pads, the blue & green is 2mm, and the pink is also 1.5mm.

Does anyone have a good flat and square (meaning right angles at the corners) pic of the inside of the KPE 3090 backplate against a white background (e.g., laying on a sheet of white paper)? If so and you don't mind sharing it with me, I'd like to try creating a dxf file that a waterjet cutter buddy of mine could use to make a replacement backplate out of copper. I could also use two dimensions if you have a caliper:

the thickness of the backplate at its edges;
the thickness of the backplate inside of the edges.

While I do have a Hybrid KPE myself, I'm still waiting on the HC block and haven't disassembled my card yet.

Anyway, if someone can provide what I requested, TIA!

While you can beat a dead horse as much as you like,
you might have a tough time arguing with one.

I also saw the linus tech tips video talking about the high temps on the backplate...best way is to water cool or put a fan
