yo OP i know this is off topic but is that megan fox in your profile pic? lol

No, posting a link not the picture: https://media.vogue.co.uk/photos/5d54c1d5aed0b900081dc33d/master/pass/original

They are more than occasionally shown to have very similar visual qualities when comparing a Transformers-era Megan Fox to the 2017-present Madison Beer, but they're not related in any way.

Don't judge this picture! I'm fixing what you see coming up here, The plate currently sits about 2mm away from the memory because it's pushed out on the edges. I didn't cut the thermal pads right. Luckily I didn't because it looks like at the top I almost hit something.
That should leave the middle at 1mm , but instead I had to use 2mm of pads in the middle.

But I don't like guessing. You know, if we keep getting crazy with stuff we'll need measurements. I bought one of these just now: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017KUC6XQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1JAAL829ACROK&psc=1
I can get us better measurements on Friday.

This is why I am glad I joined the forums. You guys are creative and nuts! If I get my hands on one of those cards, I wonder if I can machine a custom backplate (possibly for water cool or just air). I will keep an eye on the scrap bin at my job for some copper. I do not own the card, but at least would like to come up with some ideas...

I'm still trying to get a friend to finish machining a solid copper back plate for me... The cad drawing is done if we get it to work right i will post the drawing also. Might try and put the mp5 works top on the backplate and not use there plate it this turns out like i hope

One thing that would be cool is to build in an indent for an MP5 block, but that would make it even more custom... like make the copper thinner where the block goes to better the heat transference.  That's going pretty hard though :-D course just using a block on the backplate or back-side area is going in to the realm of overkill if you're putting a block on the card too, but why not go full tilt if you're gonna go off the deep end

So is this unessesary with the hydro copper block?

It's definitely still worth doing, the HydroCopper only helps cool the die-side of the card really well, which does reduce PCB heatsoak, but I'm very sure improving the cooling on the backplate side is still a worthwhile venture because of how hot the GDDR6X runs because of them being stacked on top of either side of the PCB.

Someone posted results in a separate thread and maybe even here saying post HydroCopper Block, their Memory Junction Temps (they have no backplate cooling mods at all) were 66C during testing.  The highest mine have gotten is 58C under heavy OCs... so that's an 8C reduction in junction temps still from the additional cooling on the backplate side of things.  That's under gaming load, not mining, of course.

So short answer, yes, I think so, especially since you can do it and only spend under $100 if you buy the right pads & heatsinks the first time.

was thinking of doing pre threaded holes for a couple different blocks but that would limit ram and where the block could go the copper i have is also at least 1/4 inch if not thicker buss bar good electrical grade copper....was a 1100 amp bar out of a 1 mega watt....not KW MW!!! million watts load bank! Still trying to figure out if im going to put any holes in the copper back plate other than where the dip switches are. Maybe machine it down and leave fins on it or something... also going to try and tweak it so .5 or 1mm pads are all that's needed. May also just turn in to a big mess!

You might be able to also make the block I linked below work with a little machining; depending on your motherboard/gpu slot placement (I just bumped a copy I have on hand for my SR-3 Dark against the backplate of my KPE):

Phanteks Glacier Series PH-C3647i_CPU Water Block for Intel LGA 3647 Socket P Narrow Processors

It's pretty hefty and works out size wise to 108x78mm.

Also just noticed that Hydro Copper blocks for the 3090 KPE are now going for as much as $700 on the bay. Saw four listed when I checked earlier. Additionally, I also saw that a 3090 KPE sold for $5200 on the bay earlier today.

While you can beat a dead horse as much as you like,
you might have a tough time arguing with one.

Congrats, anytime for this first round seems like a really good time!!! I'm curious to see what your designing for your plate, or is that nixed since you got in the que?

I learned a lot from my ghetto project. I'm excited to try again, but now with professional blocks coming to be available I would be throwing money out the door senselessly. But it looks as if I do want to get into CNC milling possibly by next year. And hopefully in time for the next Kingpin. That would be so insane to develop your own waterblock, and though it might not be as good as what Optimus makes, you wouldn't have to wait 6 months for something.

I may have to make 2 for my self if i do end up with a hc and a hc kit might actually get to do sli after all without having to pay ebay prices! I these turn out good i will sell to as many as i can supply Think i have enough copper to make like 6 on hand. That's assuming i don't screw up a couple of the copper ones. doing prototypes out of Lexan and then aluminum. Have to get my buddy some free time to finish the tool path program. Need to try and find a 3 slot nvbridge now.

Potentially but most likely not. It lacks holes around the GPU itself, that the FTW3 card has, so you would be leaving bolts out. Some of the most important bolts for making sure you have good contact, in the most important place on the GPU.

Clovis, when you get your block, find a way to install it while keeping the AIO block on the backside, I bet that would be some nice temps!

Currently using
Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 7

EVGA 2080 TI KingPin
Intel 9900K
GSkill 3200

Yeah, you're right, thanks for pointing it out. I took a look at my stock cooler, and probably only 3 screws from that backplate can be installed to it, if they are of the same size. Guess I'll wait for the active back plate and get the combo sandwich.

Rough translation for those that don't speaka da non-engrish:

What do you think, this thing is almost the same as if it was not. The main heat of VRAM comes from itself and Die, so the better the core heat dissipation, the cooler the VRAM. So this plate is not very helpful to you, and improving the core heat dissipation is the right way. It is recommended to take a look at the Linux tech tip video about EK back plate

KekW thicc boi heatsink is thick.  At some point I'd definitely put a fan on that or somewhere near it to blow air through the fins.  Airflow makes another decent difference.

Thank you for translating, I appreciate it. Information I provided was nothing fancy, so I kinda wrote it in Chinese for him.

This is a great thread. I decided to go big.

KekW thicc boi heatsink is thick.  At some point I'd definitely put a fan on that or somewhere near it to blow air through the fins.  Airflow makes another decent difference.
