InfusionOfFear Dabadger84 - Oh no! Sorry to hear that. Is it worth putting something like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YPXXHSK (lots of room in my case above video card for a heatsink on the backplate) on the back of the backplate with https://www.amazon.com/nkomax-Thermalright-85x45x0-5mm-Conductive-Temperature/dp/B08CGR62QX ? I wouldn't be taking the backplate off or anything along those lines. Or do you have to do that to see a results of placing a heatsink on the back?
Temps improve with just heatsinks & a fan. That's all I did initially. It won't be as dramatic, but it will help. Those pads should be good if you want to do heatsink to pad to backplate, that's what I'm using on the actual vRAM chips now. Testing as we speak. So far I'm irritated because junction temp is still high. That has to be a die-side chip. All 3 iCX memory sensors are looking good so far. If I had to guess, Mem3 is going to be about the same (47 or so), Mem2 is going to be slightly lower (currently at ~50C) & Mem1 just barely peaking at 45C at the moment, think I'm about halfway done with the test. I really don't understand why junction is still high unless I have bad contact on one chip or its a die-side chip with bad contact.

Based on the fact that all 3 iCX memory sensors are lower than before or the same I'm going to assume that the Junction readout is a chip on the die side of the card & not worry about it too much until I potentially twkr the card apart. Think I'm about done with the test and highest I've seen so far is 45/51/47 on 1/2/3 - so Mem2 has dropped even more thanks to the 12W pads, as has Mem1.

So I'm definitely convinced Mem1 is backside memory now. 45.6C max temp vs at stock it was running almost 63C for the peak in this test. Also happy Mem2 went down again, and Mem3 is about the same/without a margin of error of the same. Very irritated Mem Junction is higher, but I don't think it's bad contact on the backplate side, and I don't really feel like taking it apart to check. I'll probably do that sometime in the next few days, but I have a strong feeling now that that is definitely a Die-side chip with bad contact to the memory plate or something - because I redid all but one of the pads on the backplate side with fresh 12W/mK pads (1mm, double stacked and not pre-squished at all), and the one I didn't redo looked like it was making perfect contact (stuck to the backplate, so I could see the indents of the chips on it) so I left it alone. Ambient was controlled in the 70.3-70.7F range for the entirety of the test.

Thank you for the information about the heatsink. You're welcome! You had DMed me back a while ago and provided the length of the hybrid hoses from Gpu out to radiator in (400m, 15.75"). If I ever pull the trigger on a 3090 hybrid kit I'll use your referral code as well. As for the backplate, is it easy to remove the gunk from the pads if i need to send it back or do end up placing a hybrid kit on it?

The stock pads really aren't that bad, but most likely yours will be like mine & some of it will not come off without you trying to clean it off. I didn't really bother trying to get it to come off one mine, because the one memory chip I did try to clean just got worse lol. Even the Aiyunni ones really don't leave that much residue, the blue ones I have. They do leave that trademark "wet" look on the PCB though. The 12W pads I got are a whole 'nother story, those things will fall apart if they get damaged, so I've been pretty careful with them so far. If you end up having to RMA it, I don't think they'll care as long as there's at least pads between the die, memory, and the backplate, like it comes with stock. If you do have to do an RMA or whatnot, I would definitely pull the other pads first, just so you're not wasting them because they likely won't send you the same card back unless you specifically request a repair, and most of the time they'll just send you a new unit out. I can say with certainty now that the paste is still... well, paste. I moved one of the heatsinks on accident while re-installing the card & it slid right back in to place. Hoping that didn't compromise conductivity too much, I don't think it did. I also redid the GPU die backside pad because it was kinda messed up. Definitely don't plan on removing the backplate again until I'm redoing the face-side of the card, if I do that - repeated on and off is only making the pads less effective I'd wager, even though most of them are stuck to the backplate so it's not like they're moving around during uninstall/reinstall. The only thing I could do better is more paste on top of the bigger VRM area of the backplate, but I don't think I'm going to do that - if I ever have to RMA this card it's already going to be a mutha-B cleaning that entire 1.5ml thing of paste off of where it already is - I'll probably remove the backplate, take everything but the paste off of it, then use a bowl, soft scrub pad & water, because I don't think I'll get it all off otherwise if it's ever needed. In hindesight, I do wish I hadn't done the groves with paste too, that was probably kinda pointless & a waste of paste.

Dabadger84 Will probably be a little inactive the next few days, had to put our younger dog to sleep because of kidney failure basically out of nowhere, so I'll be dealing with real life stuff. Might do the pad update still just to give me sometime away from thinking about everything, but yeah, I probably won't post much in the next bit.

Her being only 7 years old (my last dog that passed away was almost 18, him I've had around me since I was still in school, so that one was just as bad for different reasons) & this coming out of nowhere is very hard to deal with. She was a perfectly happy & healthy dog as far as we could tell less than a month ago and now she's gone. She was also a sweetheart who loved snuggles & such, so it's been really hard on everyone that she lived with.

Just ordered the Optimus FTW3 3080/3090 block since it popped up on their site. Hopefully it won't require too much modding to work with the KingPin, but we'll see I suppose. Mainly concerned about the height differences of the components compared to a 3080 FTW3. Worst case, I'll use it on my 3080 FTW3 Ultra since I have one of those as well.

It won’t work with the kingpin. The Kingpin has extra power phases that the FTW3 block doesn’t have. There won’t be a concave in for the power phases and the water block will hit them, and won’t lay flat. You would have to drill into the water block and hope that you do not create a hole. Also the three power pins come out the side instead of the back, you will have to cut the acrylic.

Yeah, I figured it would be a challenge given the rather significant differences. Based on what you say, it is probably not worth the effort taking the block to a machine shop to have a go of it. Would hate for them to mess up a $400 block...

Just found out the XE 480mm radiator I'm planning to swap in requires literally over twice the amount of fluid to fill as my current PE 360mm radiator LUL Good thing I got 2 new things of coolant concentrate, I can make plenty. Probably going to go back to clear & not color it this time, keep the red/orange-red stuff in reserve. Currently NOT planning to put both radiators in the loop together, because apparently the XE is so much better at heat dissipation it's actually stupid - I'm genuinely curious if it could handle a CPU & GPU combined without issues, won't be able to find out until I get a blocked card though, for now it'll just be my CPU. Very interested interested to see what the temps go down to with the bigger radiator on my CPU though, I couldn't find any testing with modern CPUs, but someone on YouTube with an older CPU & GPU both in the loop saw a 10C drop going from an SE (30mm) to an XE (60mm thick) radiator setup, and that was going from a 360 to 360, not 360 to 480. CPU Block SHOULD be here Monday, I'm probably going to yank the loop either tonight or tomorrow & get the disassembly/draining done, start working on tube lengths etc for the new setup, so that all I need to do when the new block arrives is test it's RGB, plug it in to the loop & fill then start leak testing. Very interested in how well this tiny BeQuiet PureRock Slim can handle my CPU even at stock with a capped TDP, I'm not expecting miracles because the cooler is tiny, but we'll see. I'll only be using it for about a day or two while the loop is constructed & leak tested.

I have 2 in parallel front intake 360 x60 xe rads on my 10900kf loop soft line the large d5 res pump combo and it took almost 2 full liters. with it overclocked 5.1ghz no avx offset all 10 cores 1.32 to 1.38 vcore 160 to 200 watts the temp hovers 60 to 68c core temp think its reading junction temps. water temp stays 3 to 5 deg above ambient on rad exit with 6 fans running at 1600 rpm. pump i think is set at 1600 or 1800 rpm also The air flow in the 1000d case sucks i i have to leave the cover off or seal up the trays it blows and sucks around the trays and heats up the inside of the case fans are all ek Varadero d rgb 16 of them cost as much at the loop. Would like to do a second loop or extend this loop with 2 more of the same rad as top exhaust for the gpu if i can ever get a block for it. goal is sli but its not looking good at getting a second kpe at any where close to msrp at this point. Also a scary amount of heat comes off the back of these 3090 cards!

So after seeing the 11700K review - I'm reconsidering my stance on even getting an 11-series. But then I'm thinking what would be the point of pairing a 10900K with a Z590 board, other than the looks etc... I could order a Z490 Dark, order the 10900K next time it's in stock (and not OEM but retail package) and just be done with it. Again, the MAIN reason I'm going Intel & not AMD is because I have eVGA Bucks that will make the eVGA Z590 Dark or Z490 Dark very cheat, so the upgrade is basically the cost of the CPU & RAM, then all I have to do is resell my current CPU/board/RAM and recoup most of the cost of the upgrade. Otherwise I'd be going 5900X/X570. I would actually kind of prefer to do that, but, the cost, plus the fact that I'd have to disassemble the CPU block to switch the mounts, and all that stuff, is just a yikes for me that I'm not keen on doing. But, currently I'm leaning towards a Z590 Dark/10900K setup, 10900K because of the extra cores (I'm actually doing stuff now that really taxes the 9900K at times, I've had it hit 100% a few times during said tasks, and I think the extra 2 cores on the 10900K would alleviate that issue). I would just wait til the next generation comes out at assumably the end of this year, for what I would assume would be a Z690/12900K or whatever setup? But I don't really want to wait any longer, especially since it sounds like that will be a new socket & thusly may or may not even work with my block... whereas the Z590/Z490 11900K/10900K setup would work perfectly with my loop. Currently my replacement block is showing "Awaiting collection by recipient as requested" Whatever that means, guess I need to get ahold of DHL & see what the heck is up... I don't understand why EK uses DHL, it's such a garbage service out here it's not even funny. The "Destination Hub" was Phoenix, the block is showing it's still in Phoenix, with that status... I'm a LONG way from Phoenix X_X

Hey Dabader84 I was installing heatsinks on back of the Kingpin back plate I used the Thermalright 12.8 pads on a 120 x 69 x 27mm heatsink block and noticed when its on the back plate with a little push it moves Found any way to clamp or hold it tighter without voiding warranty? Also what program you using to check temps as I used the hwinfo64 and it showed mem2 temp 130 so I used techpower gpu and it shows them at 42 to 50. and every now and then i see a spike of 91. Thanks

I didn't use heatsinks on pads for very long, and when I did I had smaller heatsinks that had thermal tape surrounding them so they couldn't move. There's no real way to put them tighter other than tape. HWInfo64 Ver 6.42.4360 doesn't seem to have any temperature readout issues for me, see the listed temps above.

Well thanks for the reply. I'm using ver 6.42.4360 and while checking I thought about install precision x1 guess what it asked to update and now i'm stuck with the Firmware updating. Bug Looks like RMA for me if they cant find a way to fix it. Have to wait till the weekday to contact them. Guess only good news it that I did get a Asus Strix 3090 Rtx O24G gaming last week for my Son but he will have to wait. lol

I'm in the same boat as you. But the early benchmarks aren't a tell all. The 11 series reviews are delayed because intel said that it is going to release new microcode for the processor, which could make it better, worse, or the same? That's clearly out of most of our pay grades to even understand. I would put a 10900k in a Z590 only because I looked the other day and I could only find a place to buy the Z490 Dark for $500... Then again I'm interested in some 11900k overclocks. I game at 4k, and it looks like you do too with that huge honkin monitor, so I often wouldn't be CPU limited. Clearly I don't plan to run the processor at stock, so what I am interested in is, how the 11900k overclocks compared to the 10900k in not stuff like Cinebench, but port Royal, gaming. It's a waiting game for sure. Also, BHPhoto had a sale for 10900k for $400, but the board price is was stopped me. I'm hoping when the Z590 goes on sale there is an elite member price!

I had the same problem switch to one of the other bios settings and try it again wet through just fine when i did that.
