So just for thought. Out of the box no twidling
Also not able to post links so same timespy code format as above

With lots of twiddling and unstable game performance

Never really see over 320 watts on my card, and it nearly always reports it's on it's power limit while gaming/benchmarking.

typos?

your first result is hidden, the second one is a firestrike ultra run on a Titan X lol

As a reasonably satisfied owner I think I'm inclined to agree with you here.

The stock timespy run above maintains the advertised boost clock the entire time regardless of power limitations.

I can run +120 core clock in the games I'm playing and most of them end up with average boost clocks of 1900+ regardless of power limitations.

Could more careful design in the power delivery on this card have lead to more performance, probably. Is that what the FTW3 represents?

I had a ventus 3x oc 3080 before this card as it was the 3080 I was able to get. All the twiddling in the world got me to a 18k timespy score, and the card cost nearly the same as the 3080 ti with a discount code. I was happy to sell it to someone for what I payed for it and upgrade to this.

It was a noticeable upgrade in all gaming.

I most likely would have preferred the the opportunity to buy a 3080 FTW3 at it's retail cost. My que date is Feb which represents the date I realized how bad this would all be.

I think I'd rather have this card than a FE, not sure why.

I decided to skip the watercooled version I got a notification for today, as the limit on these models is very clearly not cooling.

I will likely pickup the 3967 if my que comes up before my discount code making it nearly the same price as this expires. My step son would be pleased to have the 3080 ti xc3 over his 3070.

The market sucks right now making consumers choices very limited.

Let me makes sure I got this right. With your previous MSI 3080 you got 18K on Time Spy and your best with the EVGA 3080 Ti XC3 is also 18K?

3080 Ti XC3 yielded 19.5k graphics score with work 18.3K graphics score out of the box.
The ventus 3080 got an 18k graphics score with a ton of work, way more than the 19.5 link I posted.

So EVGATech_LeeM is too much of a chicken to address this thread?

I'll be sending my 3080 Ti XC3 card to a big tech youtuber to call EVGA out on this issue.

Stay tuned!

Let’s get justice served!

both Jayz2cents and Steve @GN would be good. they have a big following and a history of testing weird GPU issues.

I think jayz2cents would handle it very well. He does that kind of thing a lot, and he’s not afraid to call out companies.

Reading this thread is worrying although we did have prior complaints on the 3080 XC3 also having the same power limitations of not going past 300-330W.

I just got the 3080Ti XC3 HC notify today and purchased it since I'm coming from a 3070. I'd still ultimately want a 3080Ti FTW3 Ultra + Alphacool block or FTW3 HC, but with no luck in the past 10 months getting a 3080 or better, it really feels like I gotta take what I can.

Question for the guys who do have the XC3: What resolution/refresh rate are you playing at?

I'm asking because the big Youtuber benchmarks show the 30 series scaling better at higher resolutions and I'm thinking it's possible that 1440p and lower isn't pushing the card hard enough. I've got 2x 38" Ultrawides, both at 3840x1600 with 144hz on main/75hz on secondary. It's not quite 4K res, but is close to 4K 107Hz in terms of demand.

Sorry, mine is the 12G-P5-3953-KR. The non ultra version so no overclock from evga. grandbourn states that his is an ultra which I think implies it is the 3955.
The difference in boost also suggests the same.
The 0.6 percent difference is pretty small and maybe within run to run variability.

I'm guessing he is in a much hotter room.

I should do a run with a log file. Interestingly the voltage never gets near 0.9V in time spy while hitting power limits. The higher score involved targeting a huge boost at about 0.837V with no allowance for higher clocks on reduced load.

I'm at 3440 x 1440 with a 160hz overclock on my panel.

I've been tuning settings to maintain frame rates above 160-180. With DLSS this is pretty straight forward, but I will say, I find that DLSS looks pretty bad in some games, so I end up with low settings in some cases to bring the bottom end frame rates above the panel refresh.

i still have a feeling that it's somehow related to memory load.

tasks/games with low memory load (controller load, not capacity used) see higher core clock speeds and higher power draw
tasks/games with high memory load (again, controller) see lower clocks and lower power draw.

Seems like they should be able to reach the stock power limit though. It is a base model, but the PL is base model too.

To other comments, trying to get a Youtuber to make a fuss over it is kinda funny though. Good luck with that.

I do see now where he said Ultra. However your card boosted higher then his, with yours at 1,920 MHz vs his 1,875 MHz. However his card maintained a better average GPU clock speed of 1,714 MHz vs your 1,683 MHz despite his card running 11°C warmer then your card, which should make a difference.

gsrcrxsi has a Hydro Copper card and it's being held back although it only hits 46°C, my card has a Hybrid kit and is being held back although it only hits 48°C. These cards are not living up to their true performance because of something EVGA has done to them.

Bottom line EVGA is performance limiting these cards based off of I don't know what, but it sure isn't because of temperature. That's the issue, why are these card being held back? Is it to drive people to buy the more expensive FTW3 card? EVGA won't even come into this thread to comment on the issue.

As long as it's performing as an expected "base" 3080Ti, isn't that all we're guaranteed with the XC3 model? So +10-15% performance over the 3080 XC3, not the 3080 FTW3 that others are comparing this to.

Good to know it's doing a good job for 1440p UW.

If your assumption is correct, do you think a firmware update would be able to "fix" this behavior or would it be tied to the hardware/components themselves?

Going back to the resolutions, wouldn't higher resolutions mean higher memory load, hence lower clocks and power draw? Has anyone tried running a benchmark at 1080p/1440p/4K and seeing how power draw behavior changes (if at all)?

It's not though. An Nvidia 3080 Ti FE cards beats this card. Gsrcrxsi's Hydro Copper and my Hybrid should stomp a Nvidia FE card and they are not.

Fixed links. Your average GPU clock speed is low.

Thank you. As for the clocks I guess it's because of the card temp.

I may have missed it, but has someone tried a different bios from EVGA and/or from another vendor to see if the power draw goes to the correct amount?

I know my 3080 ti xc maxes out at 280w no matter what the load and gpuz reports 80% power limit is the highest it ever hits.....a bit disappointing that this 3080 ti is limited to 280w.

the problem is that there are not many 2x8-pin BIOS's in the wild. most of the higher PL BIOS are from 3x8-pin cards and they will actually end up with a lower effective PL when applied to a 2x8-pin card.

However, there is a Zotac 2x8-pin 385W BIOS. but someone over on OCN tried it and it didn't change anything. I linked it also in a previous message, but I'm not brave enough to flash it lol.

The issue you're experiencing is the same as described in this thread. try running the 3DMark DX12 Raytracing test. that one saw max power draw for me, very close to 350W, and very low memory controller use.

I put the Hybrid bios on my card because I put the Hybrid cooler on my card. Same issue as you, the 280w wall.

So what I'm gathering is this is simply an EVGA issue, either bios/firmware or the hardware layout of the PCB is artificially limiting the card. Would be nice to get a response from EVGA considering they are false advertising on their website by saying the power draw is 350w....

EVGA knows about this thread and continues to ignore it.

What good will that do? People have been having these same issues with other models of EVGA cards this generation for the previous 8 months, but EVGA has not acknowledged it for anything other than the 3090. Lots of threads and tweets have gone unanswered. What is the likelihood that Jacob will suddenly decide to answer now?

Idk just a suggestion. But if it is giving the minimum performance that is guaranteed then they probably won’t do much about it.

Oh I thought it was and only problem was not giving the max power draw.
