I think all XC3 will have this problem, and since it’s not a temperature problem, nothing about the HC would help the situation. I can understand why the HC isn’t being treated any differently. The limiting factor has nothing to do with it being a watercooled card. The HC card is basically identical to any other XC3 card, just with a waterblock and some different capacitors to make the waterblock fit better.

Based on the tests you guys posted, it really does appear the pcie slot may be set to a 66w limit. They may have done that when they went to an 8 amp fuse on the pcie. That's only 96w. So if they had the more typical 75-80w limit, it would be cutting it close.

It's possible my FTW3 is 66w too, but it never goes over 60w even with the max power limit set.

gsrcrxsi, it might be worthwhile to measure the real power draw on the 8 pins with a clamp meter like I did with my FTW3. All of those tests you posted with varying max power draw look very similar to how my card behaves (except its in the 400-450w range). But when I've measured the true power draw (and added in the indicated pcie wattage) I show the card is actually running much closer or even higher than the power limit.

KingEngineRevUp mentioned this before I think. I'm still skeptical you'll get the same result but it's possible. Clamp meters aren't very expensive.

My power cables aren’t separable between power and ground, so I can’t clamp them anyway.

It’s a Corsair HX1000i with flat/bonded VGA cables

Just use some cheap extensions that are separate with looms.

IMO, EVGA sold me, you and everyone a crap card. I'm not going to let them do it again on another 3080 Ti XC3 card they sent an email to purchase on today and I'll warn other not to buy this card.

unfortunately this behavior isnt going to encourage EVGA to do anything, they know they will sell the cards anyway.

it really needs broader exposure from someone with a platform that can reach thousands or millions of people.

So why would EVGA limit a Hydro Copper card?

They aren’t limiting the HC more than the others from what I’ve seen. Some do better than others it seems. Nothing singling out the HC card to hold them back specifically. Just that all 3080Ti XC3 cards seem to be held back.

I like my HC card still. It fits my case, I didnt have to worry about sourcing a waterblock for my custom loop, and in the loads I’m doing, the performance is OK and still better than a 3080.

That's what I'm saying, a Hydro Copper should not be limited like this for any of the XC3 card. FTW3 cards are blowing XC3 Hydro Copper cards out of the water and they should not be doing that. We are talkin 12% better for a FTW3 card at a min.

I got a GTX 1050 card here that requires no pcie power plugs, gets all it's power from the pcie slot. I'll run a test to see what this card pulls from the pcie slot.

That’s a good idea, please let us know how it goes.

To be honest, if EVGA just offers some kinda investigation or offers some reason why the cards are being so limited that would have been amazing but still silence on my tickets too.

If you get it, think of it as a 3080. A underpower GPU is better than no GPU

I guess that could be the case if i had no GPU. I have a 3080 FE, but wanted an EVGA+3080 TI card. It's already a slim "upgrade" so a slimmed down slim "upgrade" is just rough.

That’s true, only problem is that the 3080 ti costs quite a bit more. If we’re paying a premium for the Ti over the regular 3080, we’re kind of expecting more performance.

Exactly, you're not getting what you paid for. Plus if EVGA doesn't correct this issue, trying to sell it down the road and people knowing this card performs more like a overclocked 3080 then a 3080 Ti, you are going to be on the short end of the stick money wise there too while the whole time you had the card you never got the true 3080 Ti performance.

It’s always either no response or something along the lines of “We don’t guarantee power delivery”. With the performance that we’re getting out of them, they must as well be called 3080s and be $300 cheaper to match the price of a 3080 ftw3. Some people have said that their 3080 ti xc3 falls short compared to a 3080. Someone even said that their 3070 ti ftw3 outperformed their 3080 ti xc3. This is ridiculous. I paid for a 3080 ti, please give me the performance of one.

Well I put my XC3 into Step-Up for a FTW3. Not the card I wanted and I'll be stuck with a used XC3 Hybrid kit.

Average GPU clock speed for my card on Fire Strike Ultra was only 1,837MHz and that as with a healthy oc on the GPU as you can see it was 2,175MHz.

The FTW3 card my nephew got from me beats the piss out of my XC3. Whish I had not sold it to him.

I could be wrong but, looking at that first score with the XC3, I imagine that Intel Core i5-7500T can bottleneck the 3080 Ti graphics performance. I don't know that it would amount to a difference of 10% but it probably is a clear non-zero amount.

I could be wrong but, looking at that first score with the XC3, I imagine that Intel Core i5-7500T can bottleneck the 3080 Ti graphics performance. I don't know that it would amount to a difference of 10% but it probably is a clear non-zero amount.

It would have an affect on the score yes, but not the GPU clock speeds, if anything the GPU clock speed would be up higher as it's waiting on information from the CPU. My GPU clock speeds are as good....eh er as bad as gsrcrxsi's Hydro Copper.

Well I put my XC3 into Step-Up for a FTW3. Not the card I wanted and I'll be stuck with a used XC3 Hybrid kit.

That might be the play i do xD. does the wheel code and associate code affect the "MSRP" when stepping up?

AFAIK, you can not use any type of discounts on a Step-Up. I could be wrong, but pretty sure.

I think i worded it wrong, if i used the elite code+associate code on a xc3 would the "step up" cost be $200 or would the difference be more like $400+ with the discounts?

You get to claim EVGA Bucks, but I'm not sure about the wheel spin discount and Associate Code usage. I think EVGA considers those a rebate and is excluded.

I'm pretty sure that if you use your elite discount + the associate code then it uses that. So, by stepping up to a 3080 ti ftw3 ultra, you'd still have to pay all $1400 and your elite code would basically be negated.
