2080 XC Ultra vs FTW3

Build time coming soon, and I had slotted in the 2080 XC Ultra for my prospective card. The FTW3 looks to be a bit less than $100 more at this point in time. Is the extra fan worth it? Is the performance capacity that much greater?

    The FTW3 has ICX2 cooling, which means the fans are controlled separately (GPU, Power and Memory).  You will need to use EVGA Precision X1 to control the fans.  FTW3 has more power phases (note it has 2 8 pin power connectors vs the 8 & 6 of the Ultra), which supposedly gives more power to the GPU giving more stability.  FTW3 also has a slightly higher boost out of the box.  BTW...the boosts are minimum projections.  My XC Gaming boosts mid 1900's without touching any settings.  All in all...depends on what you want to spend.  Both cards will perform pretty close to each other.  The Ultra has the 2.75 slot with larger heatsink, so both will be relatively cool.  Hope this helps.

    2080 FTW3 has 2 BIOS - the "slave" is more aggressive - manual switch to select which BIOS you want to run
     
    Both of those cards use the extra thick cooler design
     
    FTW3 is a Taller & Longer card - Height: 5.48in - Length: 11.89in

    XC Ultra - Height: 4.5in - Length: 10.6in

    The bigger the cooler,more fans and more power will equal a cooler quieter card and faster running graphics and a happier you.

    Why does evga need so many models I have no idea.. but the choice is always clear every time for me.

    Even if your going water cooling you will still want more power.. so ftw3.

    FTW3 ultra has three fans so noiser than xc ultra and xc2 ultra?

    I heard that FTW3 uses the same PCB as the Founding Edition. Does that mean it also suffers from issues due to defects?

    The fans are internal and not a blower style. Can't say that I can hear the fans on the FTW at all, even when running the X1 overclock scanning routines. The 980Ti that the FTW replaced was a blower style and sounded like, well, a blower when going full bore. Night and day difference for the better.

    Not really - with 3 fans on the GPU you can run the fans at a slower RPM
