Looks like an interesting contest. I wish they had an English version of their blog. The RSS feed is in German and my newsreader doesn't auto translate.

    Update to Projects
    • Poem@home the site has major issues when they have a heavy load and cannot report completed Projects and cannot receive New Tasks. Their Data Base cannot handle a large amount of users.
    • theSkyNetPOGS For a while they had no tasks so they are off and on for the last few weeks. *Tasks ready to send 135
    • milkyway@home No issues over the last few weeks.
    • DENIS@home Is out of tasks and when you do get some they are out within the hour.

Our Team seems to not be on the list https://www.seti-germany.de/boinc_pentathlon/teams.php

hmm...I do know that seti-germany takes into account the ability for a project to handle the event.
I just submitted the registration, and a mod has to check it over and approve for us to show up.  Give it a day or so.

I posted in their chat area earlier about projects that had little work. I think it is bad juju how they do things because it is like a wasted vote. They basically just tally votes and then when the time comes, assess the project and their work available. Then they move on to the next highest voted project. That to me isn't very fair because if the 3rd project was the second choice of everyone that voted for the 1st place project, it lost out when it should have won. Just how I feel on the matter. The other problem is that there just aren't that many projects that are large scale challenge ready these days. Last time POEM was chosen, bunkering came into play two tier. Many struggled to get work as their servers couldn't handle demand. Then closer to the end of challenge, teams were filling caches full of work units knowing they wouldn't complete in time to simply block other teams from getting them. So, bunkered for a lead and then bunkered to block everyone from getting work.
IMO ATLAS still has too many issues for a challenge of this scale. Not to mention the learning curve and all the wasted work units from people not used to running it. They are also having point issues right now and considering changing up the point system... DENIS has no work and no indicator of when it will come. POGS runs great when they have work. SETI typically has a day each week where it is down for maintenance and so you have to try and run with a cache on it. GPUGrid tend to have longer running work units and excludes a lot of GPU's. And that is when they have work available. Numberfields (last I researched) used the old BOINC point system which doesn't take into account things like AVX extensions when running benchmarks. http://numberfields.asu.edu/NumberFields/forum_thread.php?id=209#1097 So, you will find bias between chips quite a bit. I haven't dug deep into SRBase for a while so, not sure if the admin finished playing around with the credit systems. There for a while it was a mess. YAFU has been grossly over paying in credit for a while. A few teams/members have taken note and took advantage of it lately. However, that project uses multi-threaded apps. It also uses creditnew which makes things even less predictable.

ATLAS@Home can take a hardline when it comes to running. You need a lots of Memory that is for sure.

This is true. And it isn't just memory. It is also HDD IO's as the more VM's spinning up...the harder it is. I think my 4P would only do like 7 on a spinner drive, but I never tested it for reduced efficiency. I just know that it really goes south on that one going above 7. Even  when allocating plenty of Ram. So, you definitely gotta flush out the system in advance. I've pretty well reduced it down on all rigs that run it even though Ram typically isn't my issue.

2nd paragraph really sums it up! SRBase has a shortage on some projects and abundance on others ATM. Atlas is a bear and denis has not had work for a while- Pogs is fine but was dry for a good while (started right in the middle of a competition I was in.) Was not aware of the chip bias in numberfields - it runs well on my gear.
Thanks for the post - I have to agree with you.

I think it is more of a PR thing. 1. It spreads the wealth in a semi-fair way amongst more projects. 2. It prevents some teams from having an unfair advantage by constantly running their favored project. 3. Encourages others to try new projects. and 4. It keeps the challenge "fresh".

This makes me sad.  Thankfully they're postponing it and already updating server security.

BOINC Pentathlon 2016 rescheduled to 05 June 2016
    von pschoefer
    Veröffentlicht: 01.05.2016 20:00
    Dear fellow crunchers,

unfortunately, the BOINC Pentathlon 2016 has to be postponed for a month after a hacker had caused havoc on the server and the SETI.Germany website had been offline for a week. Therefore, the new schedule is:

    Start: 05 June 2016, 0:00 UTC
    End: 19 June 2016, 0:00 UTC

The registration deadline for all teams that want to participate has been adjusted accordingly: Project suggestions are now accepted until 28 May. The registration form is working again. All teams which had already signed up should still be on the list of registered teams.

There will be additional efforts during the next weeks to recover the SETI.Germany website completely, thorough functionality testing of the Pentathlon pages will also be performed again. The postponement makes sure that there is ample time for our efforts and for those teams which could not sign up in time due to the server downtime to sign up.

We apologize for this incident and the postponement, but are still looking forward to run a thrilling BOINC Pentathlon with you a month later.

Unfortunately, something's come up and I won't be able to join until the 10th. I'm definitely in then.

I'm in for all I can spare. It got hot here quick and some power needs to go towards the AC.
Citizen Science Grid is holding units back or they are all bunkered out. I'm not getting any.

Because of a Kitchen renewal, I'll have to move to alternative location for 14 days.
I may be able ro Remote Control some cores, but I won't be able to move too fast.
I'll try my best at some long term CPU parts (Marathon)

    Looking farward to participate
