Two days ago, I got noticeable lower fps in game, so I checked the MSI afterburner history and found that the GPU is at a very high temperature (87 degree C, normally within 67~76 degree C) and having a very unstable clock speed (up for a while and then down).

I did some investigations, and eventually found that 2 out of 3 fans have stopped (middle and right fan). I have tried everything I could - In MSI afterburner, enable fan sync, use a customized fan curve, force fan speed. Also I tried to switch the BIOS back to Normal mode and then reboot, I even tried to use my hand to rotate the two died fans trying to give them a kick start, but nothing worked. I concluded that the 2 fans are indeed died, as they stopped working and I didn't do anything before they stopped (No driver changes, no Windows updates, and I haven't opened the case ever since I installed the card)

Other than the 2 died fans, the card is working perfectly. I contacted the service people, and they said they do not repair the card I send in, but will ship me a recertified card as a replacement. These days there are mining cards everywhere, so I am kinda feeling scratchy receiving a recertified card that I don't know the history of. I am debating if it worth the effort to send in my card just for 2 dead fans and of course, take the risk of receiving a recertified card that might be a mining card.

I found an EVGA hybrid kit for 3090 that sells for some 110 USD, but out of stock now. Maybe I can also search on ebay hunting for a 3090 cooling block from those people that purchased the hybrid kit. I also found some fans on Amazon, they look legit, but the reviews are pretty bad, people are saying that those fans die in 3 months. What do you think?

Can you check the fan connections? Can you reset MSI Afterburner to default, then use Precision X1? It is known that there are issues controlling fan speed on EVGA card s through MSI Afterburner.

Yep, I checked fan connection, they look fine. I have been using MSI afterburner with a customized fan curve since I got the card last year, and I haven't update the software nor drivers, so I am not sure if that could be the cause of it... It could be that I adjust the fan curve too aggressively and reduced the life span of the fan, I set fan speed to 100% at 75 degree C, but I only used it for a year.. With the same fan curve, that old 2080 served me years...

Try PX1 and reset the card. Then unlink the fans and see if you can get control of the fans that were not spinning.

Try installing the latest version of Precision X1, start it and let the firmware update run.  Also update your Nvidia driver.

Simply do a cross ship rma, and just swap the coolers. Problem solved. Yes, evga allows this.

Yes.. but shouldn't he buy new pads as well and thermal putty for the vrms?

Big job. And makes ya wonder if the fan controller took a crap with 2 going at once?

Maybe he should also try moving the working fan to another port just to see if it works. Then you know the fan controller is good and the fans are bad.

He would need some more thermal pads to replace the putty for sure. If a controller is dead he will need a different card anyways, so he will be able to figure that out during the swap, and if that is the case he will have a replacement card there already. I wouldn’t get the aio to replace the fans as it will be harder to find replacement ones down the road.

I would remove Afterburner and try PX1 to make sure the firmware is the latest version on the 3090 and see if that can get the fans spinning. If it does not get them working I would go with the RMA.

Thank you all for your suggestions!
I will try with PX1 and see how it goes, and then if it doesn't help, I will do a cross ship RMA.

You are right.. I never thought it could be fan control. It is weird when two fans just stop spinning at the same time now that you mention it. Might be a much bigger issue than 2 dead fans. I will try resetting it with PX1, another thing I can try is to unplug the fan connector and connect it to my MB, if the fan starts spinning, then it is not the fan that is causing the issue.

The thing that may possibly fix it is the PX1 firmware update.

I will try that as well, hopefully it is as easy as that : )

Might want to totally delete px1 first and install the latest fresh. Just removing it in windows won't get ride of everything.

You'll need to go into safemode to remove a couple leftover evga folders buried in the c drive.

I think theirs one under documents folder and app folder.
