I apologize in advance if this is not the correct forum. I haven't posted in several years. Here's my question:
I currently have a single GTX970 and would like to upgrade. I can't afford a 1080TI but could install another 970 for far less money (about 1/3 the cost of a 1080TI). I use an ASUS 1920x1200 monitor and won't be upgrading that for some time. I play mainly FONV, FO4, Skyrim, Rage, Kingdom Come, Witcher 3, etx.  Would a 2nd GTX970 be a viable choice in SLI or should I save up for the 1070TI?

I would recommend the 1070 Ti for a few reasons.  First, the 1070 Ti has 8GB of VRAM; even if you use GTX 970's in SLI, they do not add the memory together.  Even at 1080p, that makes a difference, because you can utilize DSR to improve the image.

Second, although I enjoy SLI, many games do not natively support SLI these days, and if you spend the money to get a second card, it will have limited use.

Lastly, the 1070 Ti's should run a bit cooler, quieter, and will use less power.

I concur with the others.  You can either sell the 970 or if you play games using PhysX like the Batman series, Metro, even Fallout4 sees some gain from using it as a dedicated Physx GPU. Of course, it will be sitting there idling along when you're playing games that don't use GPU  accelerated PhysX. Just something to consider.

Did I say 1070ti? Could go 1080 as well as it's a toss up between the 2.
