Will this help the user who was basically refused an RMA because a pointless plastic click cracked? (you know the fan header that wouldn't cause this issue after installing the hybrid cooler)?

I'm having similar problems with my two 1080Ti FTW3s which have Hybrid Kits installed on them. If I change anything in Precision XOC, the entire system freezes up.

Am I correct that EVGA is RMAing cards for these issues now?

They are doing RMAs, but it might be likely that this is an issue with all kits so an RMA may now fix the issue. Although, this has not yet been determined.

Yeah, and I was advised not to reinstall the hybrid cooler until their engineers figure out what's going on.

Can anyone link where EVGA says that they need to figure out the hybrid cooler first? I just bought one and would want some solid help here before deciding if I try to install it or not!

I would have to hold off if it was me on the cooler. Reading through this post and re-watching the Gamers Nexus teardown, something is way wrong with the kit.

I would hold off on it. When I was on the phone with tech support he told me I was the first case he heard of someone having issues with the kit but this thread states otherwise. My shipping labels should be here tomorrow so I can mail my card and the cooler kit back to EVGA for RMA. I have had the card less than a month. Purchased it while card prices have been jacked up so I am disappointed, to say the least.

The Gamers Nexus tear-down was just for the air cooler of the FTW3 (PCB review right?). They also installed a Frankenstein AIO setup on theirs so it doesn't have any bearing on this. What made you think it has any connection to this issue (honest question man)?

You should go back through this thread, The video linked is of the FTW3 sold with the hybrid cooler tear down. That's all they do is tear it down and look at it not a Frankenstein build. In the teardown, there are a couple differences on the card with the cooler from the factory compared to the cooler kits sold. Like the shim and the fact the pump is installed differently. And most all who bought the kit are having the same issue. The video is on the third or 4th page in this thread with the thumbnail showing the shim.

The bracket that is not being included from what I have read through this post that was on the G.N. teardown that may be linked to these problems.

I just bought the hybrid block and won't install it until EVGA sends us a final solution.

I was thinking the same thing too after seeing the video myself. They also mentioned that the issues may stem from tension and placement of the pump on the core so that shim / plate could be the solution. Maybe EVGA can test that shim / plate and do an install on a FTW3 themselves to see if it solves the issue?

Hopefully. I had to borrow a buddy's spare 1060 just so I can game until I get mine back. I even asked the rep on the phone "If the kit is causing issues why are they just going to RMA it and send me the same kit again for me to try again and have to RMA both over again. Like I said earlier I've been with EVGA a long time for cards so I hope they do whats right.

I think it would be good if EVGATech_rayH posted again just stating that people should refrain from installing the cooler until they have solved the issue.  At least that way there is an official statement, and people aren't just guessing.  i know they are working on this, and that is their recommendation, as that is what I was told in my email string with tech support.  i could post the email string, but it really should be an official statement.

That would be nice and at least stop others from wrecking an expensive card!

They should probably show no stock on line as well so others not aware of what's going on don't run in to the same issues as they figure it out.

Glad I checked forums. Was going to upgrade my EVGA 1080ti FTW3 Elite with the hybrid kit. Kind of disappointing. The 1080ti FTW kit is not cheap. It shouldn't even have made it into stock without proper QC taking place. Sure maybe their supplier messed up, but that's still no excuse considering the mark up.

It hasn't happened to everyone that's done the install, and in rare cases when people have replaced the original cooler it's gone back to functioning properly, so it's probably a little bit of a challenge to pinpoint.  That said, I hope it doesn't take too long, as I'm sitting with a Hybrid cooler I've paid good money for that I currently can't use.

Yep same here, ordered mine from newegg.  I've opened it but haven't installed for same reason as yourself. Paid $200au + $50 postage.  Hope we hear something soon.

Yeah I'm the same boat price wise.  I'm in Canada so, with shipping and duty this thing has cost me about $300 CDN.

I installed the cooler Saturday, before reading this thread, and haven't had any issues yet. I did find it a bit strange that the windows where the FTW3 logo is on my old cooler is just a blank white light...

Did you have the extra gpu die shim to add before installing the cooler? There's a post about the shim on page 12.

Go into GPUZ, EVGA POcX or MSI after burner and try to clock your gpu and see if it locks up. Mine ran as well but like everyone else here it was underclocked and would not boost and attempting to change any clocks or even fans it would lock up

No shim, but I was careful not to over tighten the retaining screws since I didn’t want the copper heat spreader putting too much force on the RAM.

No issues tweaking from XOC, and no stability issues.

I’ve had this card since last July- in fact, I bought it the week the hybrids came out. Maybe it’s a batch thing?

the problem is not with a copper heat spreader! if i OC my RAM in precision, after freeze and flicker screen. on test OC RAM works, but not work boost.. frequency still frozen on 1569mHz.
I think if copper heat spreader putting too much force on the RAM, RAM not go on OC!
yesterday sent my card under RMA to Germany. I will wait for the verdict.

Well given I've heard nothing officially from EVGA  I might try and install my kit I've had sitting at home new in Box for last 2 weeks and for the record I'm going to be extremely meticulous installing the kit and and be mindful of what has been mentioned in this forum so at least I will have some rebuttal for a RMA if indeed it is affected with the same problem.   I'll report back once I'm finished unless something in the interim is posted by EVGA.

Let us know how it goes.  I was incredibly careful with mine but still ended up with an RMA.
