Re: 1080 Ti SC Black Edition Step Up Thread 2017/05/20 07:14:05 (permalink)
Tested using the new Superposition bench 1080p High.

Out of the box temp = 71C max
Custom fan curve (60%/60C with a slope to 65%/75C) = 66C max

Fan noise is hardly noticeable, PC sits on my desk next to the monitor.  Compared to the 1080 iCX it is much quieter.
Build quality is impressive, very solid and heavy.  Came packed in foam instead of the clear blister pack.  New case badge design too.
Very happy with the upgrade.  1080 iCX >>> 1080Ti SC Black for $80 plus ship.

Thank you for sharing.  That is interesting and nice to know.  What iCX model did you use to have, 08G-P4-6581-KR? Did you overclock the card?

My stepup was approved in less than 2 weeks in the EU. My old card is on its way to EVGA now and they should get it on Tuesday.

This is information I'm really interested in. Thanks for sharing indeed !

I currently have the 1080 SC2 iCX (08G-P4-6583-KR) and I was having a hard time to decide if stepping-up to the Ti SC Black is worth it to me, noise-wise I mean.
By not using any custom fan curve (box is unchecked in Precision X), it reaches max of 71/72°C and fans spin at around 60%/2000RPM, which is convenient enough for me.

From your feedback, it seems the same can be achieved with the Ti SC Black. By any chance, could you also share the RPM speed of the fans ?
The only thing holding me back from step-up is to loose the asynchronous fans feature which seems to reduce their noise but if the Ti SC stays as silent as this, I'd definitly line up to the step-up.

see pics for the run with custom fan curve.  Max temp ended up a bit cooler at 64C.  The room is around 71F/21.7C.

I’m one of those who waited-- I’m glad I got good advice from the people here and did, because it looks like it was worth it!

Stepped up around May 12th as soon as I found out about the SC being an option. In USA. As of yet nothing has happened, not even an email, still in queue. I believe since I did the ICX upgrade I’m approved without any hassle, ether way have not gotten any email yet.

Anyone ever done this before know how long it normally takes before I get an email?

Sunspark asked, "Anyone ever done this before know how long it normally takes before I get an email?"

It depends on product availability and the position in the queue.  Last step up I did was to 1080 GTX.   It took 71 days to step 2 or receive of email of approval.  I hope this time it would be a lot faster.  We do not know for sure. That is the reason of this thread. The feedback of us, it would give us an idea how long would it take. One person from USA had received the card, special circumstances. The first to receive card soon is from EU, 2 weeks for step 2. No one from USA has received even email of approval or step 2 that I know of.  I think USA could be more numerous.

Staypuft, your attached images do not work, it stays tiny and the other does not show anything about your fans RPM.

Correct. I recommend hosting the images(s) on a website like photobucket and then linking the URL. You can see how to do this in step 4 here:

Just received step 3 but I thought the invoice value is what you originally paid. My 1070 FTW cost £450 = 535 euros at the time. its been marked down to 520 euros . I also paid 100 euros to go to 1070 FTW2 which EVGA  has said is ignored... tho I think that  is the wrong policy.

I do think that the extra 15 euros is not fair.

Got a reply saying the step up  uses the value of the FTW2 card now ,,not what I paid for the original card.... this isn't what I understood reading the forums..

Since when did this change? Did you have to start the step-up process over again and be placed in the back of the queue?

Silly question maybe but I just want to know how it all works  in Europe. So if anyone who has done a Stepup in Europe could inform me you would make my day.

How does the sending your card to EVGA business work? Wich companies etc and info you get. I recently added myself to the Stepup Queue and I am very nervous :P

I did the ICX Upgrade and got very detailed information by mail. You really don't have to worry, it was almost foolproof.

Submitted my Step-Up on May 11th around 11 am Pacific. Still on step 1. Seems like folks that are supposed to be behind me in queue have already moved ahead or even received their 1080 Ti. Hope I see movement soon.

Is it true that you now have to put down the latest price of the original card instead of what's on your invoice? That would mean I would have to pay an extra $90.... that's over $200 for the step-up!

You're in america? Don't mix up the US and europe, seems like their stock is different.

As far as I understand, the mentioned difference is based on different exchange rates now and then.

Ah ok. My invoice was $599 for a GTX 1080 ACX.  and I'm in America so I should be good to go then.

black edition is best for water cooling, you get a good card and a backplate, thats all you need
and the PCB is from FE so there is no problem with compability with GPU water blocks

backplate will not work with the evga cooler on the black card. The cooler will work but you will not be able to put the backpate on.

Re: 1080 Ti SC Black Edition Step Up Thread 2017/05/22 12:42:08 (permalink)
I submitted my Step Up from the 1080 Ti  FE to this 1080 Ti SC Black Edition since it is only a $20 difference not counting shipping (~$34 total)...

What I can't find is conclusive reviews on the 1080 Ti SC Black Edition to see how much of a benefit the ICX Cooler offers over the FE blower... Does anyone have any information on this?

Iamrogue
black edition is best for water cooling, you get a good card and a backplate, thats all you need
and the PCB is from FE so there is no problem with compability with GPU water blocks

Their are no issues with Water Blocks, only with the GPU HYBRID Cooler Kits.

Applied last week. Nothing yet.

Not complaining!

My new Asus pg278qr just came with a dead pixel so I have to send it back anyways and wait for a new replacement from amazon.
