I have dual 1080ti ftw3's, both about 4 months old. On one card the leftmost of the 3 fans (closest to display ports) no longer spins. I've turned up all fans with xoc and all other fans react accordingly. If I tap the fan itself it will spin for about half a second, then stop for 2-3 seconds, it will repeat this for a couple minutes until it goes completely idle again. searches for other models have recommended cleaning cards, reinstalling drivers, etc. I've since moved the card to the lower of the 2 positions in my case as the bottom card has always ran a few degrees cooler(even before the top card never went higher than 75c momentarily while gaming). Any other ideas to try to get this resolved? I feel silly pursuing an RMA when it still operates at manageable temps now but I also believe parts on  ~$800 card shouldn't be failing after a few months.

I think you should get ahold of customer service. when you spend that kind of money you should be getting a premium item

go for the rma unless you feel like taking it apart but sounds like it's coming unplugged very unlikely the fan is going out but it is also possible

Remove the card and check that the GPU fan connector shown here is fully seated and latched in..No need to take it apart..It's not unheard of for the connector to be loose.

If it's fully seated and latched in and the fan still don't work, RMA it.

Just for kicks you could turn off your PC, switch (located near the PCIe power connectors) to the other VBIOS, start up and see if it works.

i have the same thing, same fan as well. Makes a couple of spins and then it stops. It makes a strange sound, like it's slightly hitting something but it doesn't.

Bad fan.. doubt a bad fan barring.. but you can try to place the card flat on a piece of cardboard and press down on the fan and release like 5-6 times to see if the barings re inline.

If that dont do it and it's not a loose connection rma it. But if you like the card as it did get nice over locks you can ask if you can just swap the cooler from the one they send you.

Btw. The left most fan your having an issue with is for the GPU. The middle is for mem and the right one is for power.

So when you set the fan curves there 3 separate curves for the 3 fans. Make sure on precision x oc to press the fan icons to enable your fan curve. They will turn blue when in auto mode. If there grey it will be static mode.. so whatever you select on the dial is where it will stick to.

Oh and also you can sync all fan to the one item.. so sync all to gpu,mem or power temp. GPU temp would be best if you sync them.

Thanks for your help AHowes. I pressed the fan a couple of times but it didn't fix it.
I managed to swap the most left with the most right fan, and it's clear it's just the fan that's bad. It's a power logic pla09215b12h.
It's not really difficult to change the fan, just the three screws that hold it in place at the base of the fan and off course the connector. It helps if you unscrew the three screws that hold the fan shroud in place (but not need to take of the shroud).

I asked customer support if the could just send me a replacement fan. Apparently this is not possible. If i could find one on eBay I would buy it for $10,- and leave the hassle of the upfront paying for the replacement card etc etc

? If the fan is bad why aren't they sending you a replacement cooler or card to swap the cooler under the warranty??

EVGA wants customers to RMA the entire card for a bad fan. EVGA won't sent just a fan or just a cooler. The customer apparently doesn't want to RMA the entire card. RMAing the card costs extra money, down-time, and you never know the quality and behavior of the RMA replacement card. I don't blame the customer for just wanting to replace the fan themself.

So they say they can't send me a $10,- fan, they only send a replacement card. For which I have to pay a $1000,- in advance. But it get's even better, they can not send a replacement card because they don't have any.
I do have warranty. But apparently that doen's mean anything at evga.
I guess they don't have a replacement because of the gpu and or memory. The fans are not part of this delay. But yeah they can not send me any. Computer says no.
It is by far the worst customer service i've had to deal with.

Will these fans also work on the 1080 Ti SC2?

I might be wrong, and I hope someone can correct me here,
But I think the SC2 have smaller fans than the FTW3.

So in the end I send back the card as an RMA. Customer support confirmed they would ship back the very same card since it's only a bad fan.

And off course I now received a card with a different serial number and looking at it they haven't been very careful with this thing.

Exactly what I didn't want from the start.
Do not buy EVGA because you think they give you good support, that was my very first mistake.

Even if is only a bad fan, I never heard a case that they would send the same card (same serial number..) back to the client.
It's stated in their RMA page if I'm not mistaken, they will send a brand new card.

If you wanted to keep your original card you should have done a cross ship rma and just swapped the coolers.

@Sajin, at first i tried to cross ship but this was not possible since they told me they didn't have any card to ship.

@PietroBR, the card I got back is not new. It has some damage to the cooling vins.

    Hello GreenCoLo,

I am sorry to hear that you were given some misinformation. In general, we would ship a replacement product for any RMA and I do apologize that you were told that you'd get back the same product. As for any other concerns, I will be sending you a direct email to follow up with you on this.
