This sounds scary, don't you all remember the bad days with the evga gtx 280 pink screen of death? if no do a search. I had a nightmare that never was resolved so I got my self the Radeon 5870. Is this red screen issue only with evga video 6xx series video cards? I have MSI and so far I'm rocking I hope I never have issues like this down the road.

I had RSOD under Vantage on evga GTX 670 when running stock/factory firmware only. After updating the GPU firmware/BIOS the issue has been resolved thanks to more aggressive TDP management under full load, no more problems. It's possible there will be more GPU BIOS updates from evga for other 600 series models, but don't quote me on that, ask EVGA Product Managers via PM and see.

I used to have a problem with my 670 dropping out while playing dota, usually it was just a black screen, forcing me to restart my computer, I think only once I got the red screen. I noticed that these crashes only occurred when I have precision x open. I never opened precision X again and I use afterburner now and I haven't crashed out since. I've been playing Guildwars 2 recently and I've experience two red screens since the launch of the game. With these two red screens as soon as I tapped the power button to restart my computer, the screen immediately went black and went back into windows, the windows was forcing a shut down and closing the programs open. One other time I had the video driver drop out on me while i was playing guildwars and then it came back, I didn't notice right away but on afterburner it said that my gpu power had hit 31 million percent! This was all before I updated to the 306.02 drivers, I haven't had an issue with 306.02 yet.

This Red Screen of Death is annoying. I have the same Samsung monitors you have.. 2 of them and when i upgraded to the GTX 680 FTW from the 8800 GTS i had it almost everytime i booted, i got this red screen on both monitors... finally figured out it was the MagicTune Samsung Uses that caused it. Also tried updating the Firmware on the Monitors and that caused a RSoD. Seems whenever a program tries to access the monitor it triggers it. mine run from a DVI-D to HDMI cable. Thing is the Red Screen isn't a Crash as the system keeps running and you can still shutdown normally and everything... Orginally i thought it was in the monitors itself. So the 680 runs without any problems as long as the MagicTune and stuff was removed... This Register that was removed in Kepler seems interesting. I just wonder if this is something that can be Fixed in the Drivers/Firmware or whether its the Monitor utilities that need to be changed

Yeah the MagicTune software isn't compatible with the newer GTX 6xx series: See here: So you should uninstall MagicTune EDIT: tried to post the link... but posting links are disabled - sorry you'll have to google it yourselves!

I don't have magic tune installed either = ( Like I said, literally no frills. All base OS and games. No additional drivers that aren't necessary. My connection is straight Display Port to Display Port btw. My second monitor, a 17" dell is DVI->VGA

Hi Guys, I just purchased a EVGA Geforce GTX 660 ti SC and am getting the RSOD like you guys described. Except that mine only happens when I turn on/restart the computer. To prevent it from happening I have to let my computer go into sleep mode and turn it on that way. Otherwise I found that if I unplug the cable (using DVI to HDMI cord) and plugged it in a couple of times that the RSOD would go away after a couple of tries that way I don't have to restart or shutdown my computer. I do have a samsung syncmaster that uses magic tune which I could of sworn I uninstalled last night and was still getting the RSOD but I'll double check. I do have some system monitors also like CPU-Z and EVGA Precision X but I was told system monitors could be causing the error :/ I guess only way to find out is to uninstall all of them. I'll let you guys know the status once Ive done it

You may need to use something like driver sweeper or ccleaner to completely remove all traces of the magic tune software.

As far as MagicTune is concerned, I never installed any version of this software. As I stated before, Fresh Legal Windows 7x64 Install, Drivers Direct from each individual manufacturer's website. Fully updated Windows install via Windows Update after driver installation. Did not install any benchmarking or monitoring software of any kind from any source. Using the latest nvidia Beta Drivers. Here is a post from a Gamers First admin aware of the problem and working with nvidia for a fix: forums (dot) gamersfirst (dot) com/topic/283016-nvidia-600-series-gpu-issue-rsod-lockups-freezes-and-crash-to-desktop/page__st__140

The APB devs are blaming Nvidia drivers. There is nothing us end user can do to fix this problem. If you don't get RSOD your monitor display either die and you have to force reset.

One quick question, if the cause of rsod is just monitoring software and not a faulty card does it appear instantly after the program is launched? I installed speedfan on purpose just to see if it happens and no problems so far.

Hi, I am also getting RSoDs with my 2 GTX 670 4gb SC. It's been very random, I went about 2 weeks with no RSoD(actually thought I had stopped them by diabling TDR), but just tonight I RSoDed 3 times. It RSoDs in SLI and with either card solo. I'm not running any hardware monitoring software or monitor bloatware. It has only happened while playing Battlefield 3. Mass Effect 1/3, Skyrim, Witcher, Metro 2033 and Diablo 3 have all been running very well, no RSoDs. I've tried the obvious stuff like clean install drivers, re-seat cards, disable all on startup, all that kinda stuff. I sure hope some fix is in the works, this has been very frustrating.

I feel bad for all these people having problems. I haven't had any problems whatsoever with my 660Ti... I really wish I was smart enough to find a endgame solution to this problem... Because I know it's still around here. Maybe everyone should list every single thing that they have installed in their system, all the software, down to what C++ version... Maybe you will all have something that I do not...

I had the RSoD last week where I was getting it every time my computer booted to desktop. I was thinking here we go I'll have to RMA the 670 FTW :( Something was causing the RSoD on boot up. Anyway I persevered and I was very fortunate enough to fix it myself by removing as much benchmark bloatware S/W as I could including some dodgy looking app called SoftOCD. I also put my 3770K CPU back to standard speed from 4.5GHz to 3.5, plus I set my mobo to its default settings. I then ran Driver Sweeper and installed 304.79. Since then fingers crossed all's been okay. I have gone back to the latest drivers and am back up to 4.5GHz again. BF3/ Crysis2/ CoD all play great. Before I began getting RSoD's I had been trying hard to clock my GTX670 FTW which caused tons of lock ups. I guess that might be the root cause of my previous RSoD problems?

This is the first time I've ever had any issues with GPUs - but my new 660TI is driving me nuts! It worked fine for a few days, then one morning it just stopped working. I've spent hours messing around with the drivers; I've been getting nowhere. Good luck to everybody else having issues!

I put together this new system last week as a replacement for my aging GTX285 SLI system and was experiencing the RSOD at random on my Signature 690 mostly during WoW. I didn't notice any problems with Borderlands 2 but I only played for about two hours. It also wouldn't even do 1 minute of FurMark (installed after several RSOD's) Burn-in at low resolution. I had combed the forums and found quite a few where people (EVGA included) were suggesting the monitoring software was the culprit but I had not installed any until after several RSOD's. Yesterday I went in to the bios and turned of the power management setting and tried it again. I ran three 30 minute burn in's at various resolutions on FurMark as well as a benchmark at 1920x1080 that runs approximately 15 minutes with no problems. Then settled in for about an hour and a half gaming session with no problems. Today I ran another 30 minute Furmark burn in at 1920x1080 with no problems. Core temps were at 75/78 after it got going and held steady the entire time Not saying it's the cure-all but I've seen several people that were not running any monitoring software as I was (and generally never do unless there's a problem as was the case this time) and it worked for me so it's something else to try. Good luck.

RoSD are still going on? WTH. I thought Nvidia had this fixed. Let me re-phrase that, I assumed Nvidia had this little issue fixed awhile back. Last I recall, RoSD were Nvidia 600 series, BIOS issues. I take it there's something else triggering the issue still, currently... I hope the 700 series isn't so bad of an issue in the near future.

One thing I don't understand is why didn't they make it in a way such that reading/writing to certain bios address space would be denied? Just block it instead and make the app which is trying to read/write deal with the return, but prevent the whole card from RSODing. P.S.: Also it really sucks I can't use MagicTune anymore to calibrate my display. The other free calibrating software I have tried was leaking horribly when it comes to calibrating the gray scale gamma. MagicTune had like 5 different "ranges" on which gamma was adjusted where others provide only like 1 or 2. So if someone knows of some good free display calibration software comparable to MagicTune, please let me know. Thanks!

SeanEJohan The red screen of death is directly related to monitor bloatware such as Samsung's Magictune etc. Make sure you uninstall any extra monitor tuner software. Hope this helped +1 I read that was the cause of a lot the red screens as well

I'm not really sure how many times I need to say this.
RSoD is a faulty card and is NOT software related.
I've run 2x4gb 680's FTW for like 4+ months and I didn't get a SINGLE RSoD during that whole time. I bought a 3rd card for a future build I was doing and replaced one of my cards to see what it's overclocking potential was. I was getting RSoD's DAILY with this new card. This went on for like a week and then I put my original card in and took out the new one. Guess what? Not a SINGLE RSoD for over a month.
Sorry guys but the GTX 600 series is faulty. If you get a card that has RSoD even once I would advise getting rid of it ASAP via RMA. If it happens even once it will keep happening.
