Over the past three weeks I have owned a GTX 670, GTX 670 FTW and a GTX 680. Let me start by saying the processing power of these cards is simply epic. Even the standard GTX 670 took on BF3 with Ultra settings like a champ. However, all three of these cards have been plagued with Red Screens of Death. After scowering every thread and suggestion I could, I was unable to find a fix for this particular problem. From full formats to an enormous amount of tweaking, the result was constantly the same. Note that after a full format I was using all up-to-date drivers direct from each manufacturer's website. I installed only bare necessities and was still running into this issue. I don't run ANY bench marking or monitoring software (aida64, speed fan, etc.) And only installed my most played games, SC2, BF3, APB Reloaded (Steam), PS2 Beta and MWO. I also updated the Firmware update on the GTX 670 FTW that I was using. Standard drivers, beta drivers, nothing makes much of a difference. I'm frustrated to say the least, I am aware that the problem is software related and is no fault of EVGA and as such I will continue to purchase EVGA products in the future, but for now I'm going back to my 6970. EVGA, please help your loyal followers find a solution to this issue. -A frustrated fan.

I had this happen to me once a week ago, but that was it and so far it hasn't come back. No clue as to what causes it.

It appears that some monitoring programs may cause this issue (like the ones you listed) but MB software is often completely overlooked.

I did not. I installed all the latest drivers from each manufacturer's website and didn't use ASUS's install disk.

The red screen of death is directly related to monitor bloatware such as Samsung's Magictune etc. Make sure you uninstall any extra monitor tuner software. Hope this helped

I don't know how else to say it, there is ZERO bloatware, monitoring tools and bench marking software OF ANY KIND on my system. I run a dual monitor setup with a Samsung LED via Display Port and a DELL VGA monitor that I convert to DVI. Neither of these monitors have any software installed on my system.

ehau Maybe it's caused by programs trying to access the video BIOS flash image but the register isn't there anymore on Kepler cards.: Yes, i've read about that in some place... someone alreary tested this tutorial? Yesterday i have formatted the computer a few times, the problem is the video driver.. because the RSoD only starts after the install..

I think its the video driver. These cards are pretty new so the video drivers may not be stable yet. Try the beta drivers. I really doubt u got 3 defective cards. Thats extreme amounts of bad luck.

But I did experience a few brief black screen flashes while in Windows desktop, usually while browsing the internet, and when the screen comes back usually Aero would be off, and the GPUs would boost to full max with 120+% power usage and stay that way for a few minutes and then Aero would back on and the GPUs would go back to idle clocks. No error message or anything as I checked event logs.

I used two different beta versions and the stock drivers. The stock drivers are where I saw the most RSOD's. With both beta drivers RSOD's were much less frequent, but black screening was just as common. And yes I used the newest 306.xx version.

I'm having Red Screen as well, every now and then on BF3. I have no monitoring software installed and no bloat from motherboard drivers or anything. Current system is 3570k, Asus Sabertooth X79, 2x 670 GTX stock in SLI. I've been playing GW2 since launch, no issues even after hours of online time. BF3 happens once every 2 or 3 days of playing. If I have no monitoring software, any ideas on what fix there might be? Have the EVGA or Nvidia people said anything about this issue?

The same thing happens to me every once in a while and I know for a fact it's due to WEI.

I didn't bother running the WEI thing after I put in my card, so it's grayed out for weeks. But about two days ago, I noticed it updated itself to 7.8, but I did not run the tests. So maybe it was doing that when I was browsing the other night.

No error message or anything as I checked event logs. Haha at what time does that happen? That sounds exactly like the random WEI update Windows does when it feels like making sure your score is up to date. The same thing happens to me every once in a while and I know for a fact it's due to WEI. LOL, speaking of WEI. I didn't bother running the WEI thing after I put in my card, so it's grayed out for weeks. But about two days ago, I noticed it updated itself to 7.8, but I did not run the tests. So maybe it was doing that when I was browsing the other night. It likes to do it in the wee hours of the night when it's least convenient for me. It's even caused my computer to hang because it thought it was a good idea to benchmark while I was playing a game. I wish there was a way to disable it; all it does is use up pointless resources.

How to disable WEI aka WinSAT: 1. Click the Start Button on your desktop and type into where it says "Search programs and files" Task Scheduler and hit enter. 2. Under Task Scheduler (Local) expand Task Scheduler Library, Microsoft, Windows, Maintenance, Right Click on WinSAT and select Disable. 3. You have successfully disable WEI aka WinSAT. Enjoy.
