While X58 is an older Chipset you should be fine, but you should ask this Question on Dell's Alienware's Support Site.

Your system is quite old at this point. Either of the cards you are looking at will be pretty significantly bottlenecked by your aging CPU. For 1080p 60hz just pick up a non "Ti" GTX1660 or a used GTX1060 6GB. No need to spend money on performance you will never see with your older hardware.

The 1650 or 1660 might be very good options. Guess it depends on what your looking to do next year since I think for 1080p gaming with an upgrade next year the 1650 might be a very good option unless you plan to use the card on a new build.

Use an Associates Code & SAVE 5% - 10% on your purchase. Just click on the associates banner to save, or enter the associates code at checkout on your next purchase. If you choose to use my code I want to personally say "Thank You" for using it.

GTX1650 is a terrible suggestion. For less money he could have a AMD RX570 with far better performance. The 1650 is comically overpriced for what it offers.

Either one should work since the cards support legacy mode in the vbios's.

    hello
    Sajin
thank you for the reply: I asked that question at nvidia a day or two a go got no answer so far, I should have asked that in my post here. so what your saying is the 1070 and the 1660 ti are legacy supported if thats an yes, that's good for me. I assume the 1060 and the 1660 are as well? and the 2000 series cards are not?  just want to get it strait in my head.

thank you for your help: i'll take a peek at the 570 before I get a card. I am guessing I was gpu bottlenecked with my set up before my cards died. so being bottlenecked at the cpu will make it work harder with higher temps?  would swapping out the cpu to a little newer cpu help with the bottlenecking a little? or would the cpu and jpu both be under more stress?

thank you sir for your help: all info is good I just have to sort out what will work at this point and time.

Yes, that is correct, but with that being said the motherboards bios could still have compatibilty issues with the cards since they are so new compared to your motherboard, so make sure your motherboard bios is completely up to date before you attempt to run a newer card.

    hello
well I just got off the phone with dell small business side of the company, they said the top card I can use is the gtx1080 in this system, they then offered to sell me one at 1.2k I said no thanks that seems a bit much. I almost asked them if they was nuts lol

    Sajin; thank you.
I did find a 1070 ftw in a sealed box as a replacement for the card a guy sent in for replacement under 200-250 range and a couple of 1060's that are clean lite use for a little less, so I am going to look at maybe a little more updated processor to see if I can lessen the bottleneck at the processor along with the bump in the ram this should bring a little life back to this system.
this next month my retirement kicks in so I figure I can start building a new unit in about 3-5 months. this is going to be a learning curve for me so it may take a little longer and then give this system to the wife.
I cant complain about this system got my monies worth out of it over 10 years.
I want to say, you guys have given me more help then the 6 or 7 other tech sites, nvidia, or dell ect, that i have visited. out of 1-10 id give ya a 10.

    thank you

edit- I am on a10 bios and I can go to a11- so ill get a cheap 260 then update the bios then ill try the new card.

Have a look in EVGA B-stock - there's some very well priced cards in there (multiple models on each link):
    • EVGA GTX 1060 (6GB) [link] $140-$250 (some have a good rebate right now)
    • EVGA GTX 1060 (3GB) [link] $110-$200
    • EVGA GTX 1070 [link] $320-$380
Good thing is they come with 1 year warranty, and you're not going to get ripped off.. EBay you have maybe 50% chance of getting scammed. ALSO you can get another 5% off using someone's Associate code (look in people's signature for it).
