I got the Asus TUF Gaming B550M Plus Wifi.  Haven't installed it yet (case arrives tomorrow)

I don't see a reason to spend more than $200 for a mobo unless one is planning on doing some big overclocks or needs something special.

You don't need an X570 motherboard. The only reason to change to a newer motherboard is to use the PCIe 4.0 features of your CPU. I went from a MSI B450 Tomahawk to the MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus motherboard and it's rock solid.

You are better off waiting till next year or 2 when pcie 5.0,  ddr5 and usb 4.0 become standard on motherboards.  By then NVIDIA and AMD will introduce their next line of GPUs for a new age of gaming on 4k and 8k gaming.  Among some other new technologies, the bandwidth increase will be amazing especially with pcie 5.0 speeds for NVMe.  It would just be a waste of money to buy anything until these standards hit the market.

I suppose it's true coming from a recent mobo/CPU, but I decided to do otherwise  since I'mc urrently on X99, because I  think DDR5 will probably be expensive at first (and I do have a solid DDR4 3200 kit that I can reuse).

I haven't even tested NVME but from what I've heard, in an every day use difference between PCIe3 and 4 for NVME is not that important

And I'm not sure what to expect from USB4, USB3 is already fast enough for me (man, am I getting that old ? :D)

Is your sabrent 2tb m.2 drive a PCIe 4.0 drive? If not, changing the motherboard won't do you any good.

    A 3.0 m.2 will work in a 4.0 m.2 slot fine.

    Yep that's my setup, I have a X570 Tomahawk which has 2 x PCI-E 4.0 M.2 slots.

    For my primary I have a PCI-E 4.0 Samsung 980 PRO and for my secondary I have a PCI-E 3.0 Crucial P2.  It works great :).

does the x570 need bios update or can i just drop the 5600x in and how big is your primary . are you using it for boot only and secondary for gaming. because i can use my 2 tb sabrent for gaming and get a cheaper 512 or 1tb for boot.

It depends on the board you get and when it was manufactured.  My one in particular was made at the beginning of Jan and had a special graphic on the box saying "AMD 5000 compatible".  If your one is not, then you either want a motherboard where you can update the BIOS without a CPU or just contact the reseller to do the BIOS update for you or verify it is a newer model.

Yes correct, primary is the boot drive but it is 1TB so have some games on it as well.

Secondary is extra storage really, that's a 2TB one.

I do want to make a note on that motherboard. If you install a NVMe drive in the 2nd M.2 slot, PCIe slot 3 (the 2nd x16 slot) will be unavailable.

B550 is better for overclocking and will probably get bios updates faster than B450 and below
