first of all i realy appreciate  all of your expert opinion in all the topics i made in EVGA forum , second i did a new bulid buying a new mother board gigabyte X58 A UD5 , as i was going with 2 GTX 480 SLI ,i wanted to get an EVGA board but it was out of my budget :(( also i got a new thermaltake tough power 1200 W  to supply power hungry SLI , after i installed the 2 GTX 480 i found minimal spacing between cards and the temp of the first card is 60 and second card is 50 !! without load and on playing heavy games the top card reaches 92 and the bottom one 87 ..my question if the spacing will prevent me from using SLI configuration ?? will i use just only one 480 not to cause any overheating of the cards and loose one of them in the end ! i have attached pic of my configuration to make it easier for anyone who answers , thanx in advance

Ideally, you should have a 3 SLI board to make a dual SLI setup, to leave the space of one card in between. But those temperatures are fine and commonplace, as long as it doesn't reach 105, you should be good. Also, pay attention you can manually adjust fan speeds for both your cards on programs like EVGA precision, MSI afterburner and so on... trading noise for heat, you can find a good balance.

    Hope I helped

Your cards aren't overheating.  They're getting a bit warm judging by the temperatures you said but that isn't overheating.  If any card passes 100 degrees Celsius then you've got some real problems.  Raise the fan speeds of the card if you haven't - I like the MSI Afterburner custom auto fan profile option.

Which case do you have?  How is the airflow in it?  Can cable management be improved?  Good cable management results in less restricted airflow.

thanx for your reply , u gave me good reason to breath again as i realy wanted to try SLI after getting 2 cards 480,  i also tried searching again for boards that have good spacing for SLI , even the asus P6X58D premium dont have enough spacing , only EVGA 3 way SLI have ..but i wanted also to get future proof board with sata 3 and usb 3 which is found in gigabyte boards

EVGA does have a motherboard with those features.

There will also be more "3" series motherboards.

You can't see much of your cable management in that picture, but you don't need me judging it.  I see that case comes with most if not all of the fan slots used up already.  So raise your GTX 480 fan speed if you haven't, I prefer the MSI Afterburner custom auto fan profile option.

Deviating a little from the subject at hand, futureproofing in any boards today is debatable, since after the i7 980X, the next generation of intel cores will use a different set of pins. Btu I see your point with the idea since, for gaming, you probably won't need to go higher than that for quite a few years...
