Is the mobo unique to Dell or is it something you can find a replacement I/O panel for?

OP that plastic silver stuff your talking about in the back is just a seal/cushiong nothing more nothing less, once you remove those 4 bolts someone circled you will be able to take out your mobo, the I/O shield is part of your case so there is no way to take it off and put it on a new one. Once you take the mobo out and put it into a new case your not going to have an I/O shield since the motherboard is a dell proprietary, as well as the case. To answer your question will the I/O shield come off? No not unless you can weld or cut it out but even then it will be compatible with any aftermarket cases. What is the silver padding? Just a padding/seal no big deal once you remove those 4 screws it will stay on the case, the opposite side of it that is touching the case prob has glue holding it. Can you get a new I/O panel for your dell motherboard? No

andrewwongg _Nite_ did you remove the Hex Nuts from the VGA and Serial port yet? someone suggested that above and I didn't see you say anything about doing that yet how am i suppose to do that with this plastic foam thingy in the back of the IO panel http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab98/legendarybloodfang/pc.jpg The Hex Nuts unscrew from the outside not the inside so don't worry about the foam, just use a small pair of pliers or hex nut screw driver from a computer tool kit. You can't get the board loose from the I/O shield until you remove those.

IO shields are a necessary part of many electronic devices. IO shields provide a convenient way to add and remove functionality to your computer or project. They protect the delicate ports and wires inside from dust, moisture, and other contaminants. However, it can also be a pain to remove if you don’t know-how. In this blog post, we will show you in two easy steps.
