A perfect reason why I cannot stand dells. Too expensive and very difficult to upgrade cause they do things that out of the norm.

Try this push in towards the back of the case cause my case had 2 stand-offs that had lips on them to keep the mobo in places while you put the rest of the screws!

Nice find, that site even shows you everything you should do to remove that board. You push it towards the inside of the case and remove it that way. Almost all I/O shields just snap into place, no glue or screws, it's probably just on there with a tight fit because the motherboard is still in there. You will most likely not be able to remove it untill you push the motherboard forward.

Sorry, I didn't word that correctly. Nevermind! I know what standoffs are, but I didn't get my point across the way I wanted. Disregard the word "Standoffs"   :P

See the hexagonal screws for securing the cables to the Serial and VGA ports? Take them out with some pliers.

If you try to slightly pick up the board on the opposite side from the I/O shield, can you feel it lift up off the case or does it seem to be stuck to the case?

Looks like those stand-offs are holding the board from being moved side to side. That's the only thing I can really see from holding you back. Try lifting the board slightly to get them out of the motherboard holes to move them.

Sometimes in pre-builts you see stuff get stuck in place and need a good deal of pressure to get em to move. From the illustration it shows to pick up the motherboard from the side that the I/O shield is on to remove it. It feels like we are missing something that is still holding it in. Try pushing from the outside of the case on the I/O shield on each side, maybe with the back side of a bic pen or something to avoid getting cut.

Yeah there is going to be no removing your I/0 shield it looks like its part of the case=/ If you want to upgrade your case your going to have to get by without one or upgrade your mobo.

On the inside of the case.  Place one end of a screwdriver against the I/O shield thingy.  Then smack the screwdriver with a hammer and knock the I/O shield out of the case.  Either this will free the board for removal or at least you might be able to see what is holding the board in place.

Dells site has an illustration of the removal of the board, XrayMan provided the link. It does not show specificly the removal of the I/O shield or even show if it is removable though, so you might be right about that.

Err, that wont work. The backplate is actually a part of the pc case. It can not be removed. I also would not suggest this on a bacplate that can be removed as the backplate come out from the inside of the pc case.

I've actually used this method before on computers.  Even though I/O plates are supposed to go inwards the method works.  However, I didn't notice this computer has the I/O plate as part of the case.  Oh, well.

On the inside of the case.  Place one end of a screwdriver against the I/O shield thingy.  Then smack the screwdriver with a hammer and knock the I/O shield out of the case.  Either this will free the board for removal or at least you might be able to see what is holding the board in place.

Err, that wont work. The backplate is actually a part of the pc case. It can not be removed. I also would not suggest this on a bacplate that can be removed as the backplate come out from the inside of the pc case.

    so i cant remove it?

By tugging on the motherboard away from the I/O shield, you can't see how it is attached? Many suggestions were offered. Did you try those suggestions?

as Nite suggested you will have to remove the hex nuts I thought he just wanted to remove the I/O shield=/  once he removes all the mobo screws then the Hex nuts like you said the mobo should come right out as for the I/O shield only way your getting that off is to weld or cut it off...
