I'm new, too. I've always had AMD cards but they're not really competitive anymore if you want the most powerful gaming card. The last time I had a card that I felt was the best you could buy was my 7970 I bought in 2012, and it held its own for a very long time. Really trying to pick up a 1080 Ti.
