redteamgo Is there a ddr5 compatibility list somewhere? Browsing but haven’t found it yet.
The likelyhood is that all non-ECC/Enterprise unbuffered DDR5 memory is compatible. Whenever there is a new DDR standard released, the timings and speed start out very modest. Then you eventually get to a point later on when only a few motherboards can keep up with certain speeds.

Excited but scared. The Classy is $630. The KP will probably be near $800, and I'm not sure I'd like to go that high price. It just makes me wonder how far can you really go with the KP.

Kingpin can go really high from the looks of the scores posted. That’s if you use the board and push it like it’s made for.

Is it worth it just staying on water, though? On water I see people pushing their 12900 to near 100c. So I'm like welp if the Kingpin really lets you get further, maybe it's just worth it when only using more exotic cooling methods?

That's were the 12900 throttles so you want to stay below that with better cooling. With water cooling the Classified gets me 29632 max score in Cinebench R23 using 350W with some cores topping out at 100. Yes, KP only worth it if you want to push the limits, which is fun.

Oh I don't mind pushing limits! I once had my 3770k at 4.7ghz on water with what felt like weeks of tweaking. But after 5+ years my system had a brain fart, I had to reset the bios, and I never bothered again to hunt for the perfect settings to get to 4.7. So I stayed complacent at 4.5. If pushing limits means needing to go with exotic cooling methods on the Kingpin, then I'll probably pass. I mean as it is, I'm going to see a Mount Everest sized difference going from my 3770 to my hybernating 12900.

It’s up to what you want I’m using the apex right now and asus screwed up these boards. Memory overclocking im sure the kingpin will shine. There’s a ton of performance on ddr5 memory overclocking. This won’t be seen on cinebench. Cpu quality will dictate what the cpu will do more so than the board but memory tweaking the board really is a factor.

Not that I'm aware of. From my understanding Corsair are typically Hynix. G.Skills vary, but I think above 6000 they may be Hynix as well. There's been some discussion in this thread: https://forums.evga.com/DDR5-m3518445.aspx

You can tell by the timings and bandwidth 6000 cl36 is Samsung. 6400 is Hynix currently. I’m using the new gskill Hynix 6400 cl32 and it’s pretty fire. Going to be good on my dark board. I had them @ 7000 32-40-40-32 on my apex ad the apex sucks this gen.

Keep in mind that CPU IMC and RAM ICs matter more than motherboard for ram overclocking so difference between dark, apex, unify-x, etc. not going to be anything magical lol.

+1 Your going to need a strong IMC to run DDR5 7200MHz. KS tray chips should be in stock 3/3/2022, you can pre-order now for $800.00. https://www.shopblt.com/s...00KS&search=Search

Of course but its still a balance of the 3 and really the only thing you have "control" over is the purchase of your Board.and Memory kits...I cannot speak for the Dark...but the Apex is still one of the best bets (always has been)....IMC is strictly silicon lottery roll of the dice.....Memory Kits you need to research other forums to find "whats working well and what isnt"......so far the Dominator Microns not great...Dom Samsung 5600 pretty good....sounds like Dom Hynix pretty good and GSkill 6400 Hynix pretty good, but not great temps....2 DIMM Boards better than 4 DIMM Boards due to Topography......need to put all the pieces together ;)

+1 Might need to spend another $800.00 for binned CPU. https://www.shopblt.com/s...00KS&search=Search
I assume there won't be too much more overhead on the 12900KS. Is it too hard to get similar clocks to the KS with the base K? My lazy overclock with the ASUS AI setting gets me 5.3 on all P-cores and 5.5 on the top 3 cores. Not sure the KS is going to be pushing too much beyond that.

DEJ915 Keep in mind that CPU IMC and RAM ICs matter more than motherboard for ram overclocking so difference between dark, apex, unify-x, etc. not going to be anything magical lol.
I agree the P core overhead will tap out for normal users at 5.5 all cores due to heat. My 12900K is SP85 and I can run P cores at 5.4GHz @ 1.35V all core,.. with that voltage it's too hot under full load to be practical for 24/7 usage. Only reason I would risk spending $800 on KS chip would be for stronger IMC, lower voltages,.. I haven't had much luck with 12900K lottery I've bought, tested three so far.
