Hi there, is there a confirmed launch date for the Dark? The Classi launched without me seeing any real notice of any kind, the Dark probably isn’t too far off.. even with Elite I imagine interest will be strong so would be good to know which day to be ready for it :) Thanks FC

my suggestion is to follow @TEAMEVGA on twitter and turn on notifications so you'll know when they drop the queue signups.

There isn’t usually much notice ahead of time. Vince (K|ngp|n) typically starts posting about the board on Facebook and Twitter before the launch, and then gives very minor “hoping to launch” type clues.
The dark always takes the longest because of the testing and changes involved with creating the board. There is no great timeline to chase and know for sure when release will be.

From Vince's Facebook: "The board fairy finally came. First batch of retail 690 DARK KP boards are leaving Taiwan now before the CNY. Get ready if you want one. "

And Luumi just posted a video on DDR5 comparison where he noted the boards will be hitting retail market "very very soon, like within a week or so." About 14:17 in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ted8IIMCMhk

Still have not had time to build my Z690 Classified, my schedule has been absolutely insane - lucky if I can grab a few hours sleep a night. If the Dark is really close, maybe I won't build the Classified at all...

The dark will automatically be better cause it’s two dim. 4 dim is a disadvantage more on ddr5.

So wait, why is 2 dim better than 4? Just how dual channel works on DDR5? I was planning on buying corsair dominator and I don't see any 2x 32 sticks under c40. Is there a huge difference in c36 vs c40?

Ddr4 2 dim was better. 4 dim with ddr5 is pointless if you want to run at high speed. Watch buildzoids take on why to run ddr5 on two dimm boards. You will never get 4 dim to 6000+ with the slots populated. I have ran 7000 cl32 on my two dim apex. And there are many kits that are CL 32-36. I have the gskill Hynix ic 6400 cl32 16x2 kit. I’d avoid Samsung for now. https://youtu.be/Q8XLvZTqyX8

Dual channel and only running 2 sticks is nothing new. I've made that consideration since the mid 2000s with my DFI LanParty NS4 board. They know the overclockers that like testing limits will only use 2 dims. Technically, they save money in the ram area since its less soldering and less dimm sockets, but the board always ends up being more expensive because it is beefed up in other areas like with the PWMs.

It all depends upon Topology of the Board.....my Z390 Maximus Extreme T-Topology 4 DIMMS were better running faster or OC'ing RAM than occupying only 2 Slots of 4.....now Z690 Daisy chain topology whereby occupying 2 slots of 4 are better...... My older X79 Rampage Extreme was also better with 2 slots of 4 occupied.....which was the "old rule thumb" you speak of...times have changed... good read here with a link to Buildzoids explanation....back a few posts someone mentioned "its DDR5 vd DDR4", which is not the case at all, just so happens DDR5 is built on Z690 which id Daisy Chain topology (data link between CPU IMC and RAM sticks).... https://community.amd.com/t5/general-discussions/ram-and-motherboard-topology-considerations/td-p/429683

Ah interesting I’ve always been used to it being dependent on the CPU. TY

Yeah completely threw me off as well when I got my Z390 Maximus XI-E Board and found out 4 sticks was better than 2.....went completely "against the grain" of what I had thought ...also explained why the 4 DIMM QVL list for that Board was so large vs the 2 DIMM list.
