BIOS 1.08/1.07/1.06 Updates (Spectre) - Update CPU microcode for Intel security
- Improves smart fan speed control
- Improves Intel SGX compatibility
- Add SW-TPM function
- Add SPD control item for additional memory RGB control
This BIOS is intended to update the CPU microcode to increase security related to the reported Spectre vulnerability for processors used on Z270 motherboards. This microcode update is expected to be used in conjunction with related patches from your Operating System or VMM to ensure complete protection from reported vulnerabilities.
Windows Installation - Download the correct .zip file below for your motherboard:
134-KS-E279-KR - EVGA Z270 Classified K - v1.08 132-KS-E277-KR - EVGA Z270 FTW - v1.07 111-KS-E272-KR - EVGA Z270 Stinger - v1.06 - First go into your BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
- Close all open programs.
- Go into the folder where you unzipped this package and open update.bat
- Press Y to start the flash process
- DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET DURING THE FLASH PROCESS
- After the flashing is finished, the system will automatically shut down. Then power on again and go into BIOS to setup.
- NOTE: If flash box immediately closes after flash attempt, the flash may need to be ran from a CMD prompt with administrator privileges or DOS version.
BIOS Installation- Extract the contents of .zip file to USB flash drive (must be formatted as FAT32)
- Reboot the machine and go into the system BIOS
- From the BIOS, navigate to the Save & Exit tab and open "Select BIOS File."
- Select the .bin file you wish to flash.

Okay when I got the zip file Im not sure what the format was so I will check that. I got it updated but I went the online way. But couldn't figure out why it would pull it from the USB

I'm sure it's a bit late, but make sure to unzip the folder prior to trying to flash the BIOS.

Please note that we've temporarily removed the Spectre updates, as we are in the process of providing a new BIOS version with updated microcode. I do not currently have an expected date of release, however, so we ask that you patiently wait while we work on this. I will provide further updates when they are available.

intel asked manufactures to pull it do to some crashing errors been caused by the new micro code. so if you did already install it and are having crashing issues since then roll back to the last version.

EVGA released the updates for X299 yesterday. I'd expect ours to roll out "soon."

Thanks. Fixed. Please redownload E279, as it was linked to the old Spectre microcode file (v1.07), whereas the new one is v1.08.

RE: EVGA Z270 Stinger Dark Mode still doesn't disable the M.2 Key-M Activity LED (Page 10/11 in the manual). With a clear side case (NZXT H200i), this is still extremely annoying. Any chance EVGA will consider a fix? I've previously reported this through support channels with no response to date. I'd honestly rip the LED off the board if I weren't concerned with EVGA's potential warranty response. This problem has been there for 1.04 and 1.05 as well. My board shipped with 1.04, so I don't know if prior bios' were impacted.

I checked with our BIOS team on this. Unfortunately, there is no control pin by hardware for the LED, so it cannot be disabled through a BIOS update or BIOS setting. I'd probably recommend a small piece of electrical tape to cover over it as the safest way of reducing the light. As for warranty, I would not suggest removing the LED as that would be considered physical damage, but I think you probably already guessed that.

Our internal testing with an Intel 600P and a Samsung 960EVO show negligible differences between BIOS 1.05 and 1.07. I wonder if something else might be going on.

Funny enough I have both of those drives installed, the 960 is the boot drive. Ran both the Samsung and CDM5 tests right after the update, iops on both read and writes we're down 100k and reads we're down, write mb's we're about the same, 1750MB on the 960 and 540MB on the 600p. There was a Windows update that installed after the bios update, the OS side of the bug patch, but to take a hit like that is huge. Boot time did slow a little also.

What values are you getting for iops and read/write speed?

They've all had some update since then...I don't know..I just got warranty board brand new one back, I don't know hang on to it...buy another windows key something. I doubt it even really needs the update though dude. Dog out the supermicro for awhile. it's the weirder stuff kind of like the Asus's and the svid etc..but you might have raise system agent and whatever IA/ISA I did BSOD page fault when Ocing etc. Didn't have to on these.
