I'm currently using Verizon and am very satisfied with the service but I was looking around for something less expensive. Consumer Cellular has an offer of unlimited talk and 3GB a month for 30 dollars a month. Anyone have any knowledge of Consumer Cellular service? Thanks

No experience with them , but generally all the cheaper cell phone providers pretty much use the same exact towers from the big name ones.... Service is fairly close on most of them.

I think I'll try Cellular being it is 15 a month cheaper and you can keep your number. Spectrum is cheaper as well but you have to change numbers. I can always go back.

My wife and I switched to straight talk 5-6 years ago from at&t and Verizon and have never regretted it. We both did the BYOP (bring your own phone) option as both our phones checked out as supported. I think it was $15 for the sim card, keep your number and unlimited everything for $45 per month ($51 per phone after taxes etc). They bounce off Verizon towers. I get better coverage than most of my coworkers (by far) who have no contract phones. I do a ton of driving and cover quite a bit of ground and I seldom have no service and those spots are mainly deep in the mountain valleys where signals are non existent for any provider. If you stay in an urban area mainly then I would say try out an even cheaper plan but have a phone that is supported by multiple providers so you have the flexibility to switch up if the need arises.

Well, I switched to Consumer Cellular about a week ago and so far I don't see any difference in service. My plan is 15 dollars a month less than Verizon for the same deal and if you sign up prior to Sep 30th they give you one month free. https://www.consumercellular.com/

I'm late to this thread; but, wanted to share: Verizon has a Pre-Paid plan that is cheaper than the post (billed) plan, & automatic billing saves an additional $5/month - Per phone https://www.verizon.com/prepaid/ I am not affiliated with Verizon ... just like the coverage. Only 1 time was getting a Signal an issue - at a rental in the mountains of North Carolina - even though the Verizon map showed we should have had good coverage

I agree, Verizon had been excellent all the years I was with them. The only weak spot for me was in the Southwest area around Rt 66. I cant remember if it was AZ or NM. The worse experiences I had were with Sprint years ago. My company discount is going away and I couldn't see any reason to pay as much for monthly service as Verizon wanted so my research led me to Cellular One. So far so good.

I switched from Verizon (1 year) to AT&T (3 years) and in April I switched over to Sprint, I remember when Sprint had terrible reception and bad service overall (I had them back in 2012-2014ish). Now with the new merger with T-Mobile, The service and the reception is great. It's super cheap with the $30 unlimited plan (Kickstarter?) I don't think they have it anymore though, I'm trying to look for it but it's only showing the T-Mobile plans now. knightsilver Wife and I will be going to prepaid-Verizon in a few months, we are never again financing phones/tablets, we can get the same package were on now $110 vs the current $250.
Glad to hear! that's what we did this time around, we bought 2 new phones and an iPad in cash instead of financing, screw that! That's how they hook you into their trap lol

Consumer Cellular works great. Have it for my grandfather for the last 3-4 years. It uses the same service towers as the major providers. So if you have good service in your area you should notice no change other than cheaper bills

Looks like Consumer Cellular uses AT&T and T-Mobile towers. Do you know if either has decent service in your area? I'm on Google Fi, which uses Sprint and T-Mobile towers. The service is mezzo-mezzo, but cheaper than I was previously paying with AT&T.

Consumer Cellular is good, would recommend them over paying full price for a big name telco. Verizon is always the most expensive in anything. That being said I'm a huge fan of MVNO's. Won't find better than $17 a month for unlimited talk/text + 3GB data. Or $23 a month for 8GB data. That already includes all misc taxes and fees. I use MintMobile, works anywhere tmobile has coverage which means practically everywhere. Downsides are I sometimes lose data inside a Costco, and you have to pay a year in advance. Data is sometimes slow inside metal buildings like a Costco, but that's a GSM thing in general. Includes 4G LTE and 5G coverage. If people want to know more about MintMobile or want a referral code send me a PM. Currently they now offer a $30 unlimited everything plan.
Have water, will cool.

Mint mobile may be good for a cheap plan if you haven't checked them out
