Hi guys - it belongs in both motherboard and vga section so had to decide where.

Could anyone confirm if EVGA 1080 (FTW) with a backplate will fit in the first slot on Classy without removing an I/O shield.

I've run into this problem with 9x0 series. To be honest backplate is not needed in my setup, but on 1080 it look so cool that purely for aesthetics I would love to mount it with waterblock. Perhaps somebody does run already liquid cooled 1080 FTW with default EVGA backplate?

Thanks in advance

I removed the bottom mounting hole and bent the bracket a little tighter, after removing a pie shape cut.  Top mounting hole works well enough to keep bracket in place.

Loosen all your MB Screws and push the MB from top to bottom then insert your Graphics card into Slot TWO to alien the MB to the PCIe Slots.
Screw down your MB Screws and then last the I/O Cover and make sure it is centered on the Screw Holes and then Screw then down.
Now remove the Graphic Card from Slot Two and inset it in to Slot One that is next to the CPU.

I was confirming I didn't have to do anything fancy to install my 1080 FTW (with backplate) with the I/O shield already in place.  But to be clear, I'm not liquid cooled.

I went with logic that Titan XP (which you can't buy in Europe anyway) is nominal $1200, 1080 was 700$, so it stands to reason that Ti will be between 900-1000$. That's why I've pulled the trigger on 1080 FTW, and then literally 2 days later I get hit in the gut with Ti release and massive price drop. On that day I had really suicidal thoughts about how miserable life really is. To be honest still can't stop thinking about it.

I know its a fun hobby but never take this stuff personal.  It's just how the market works.

Ahh this. Well its hard not to take personal when you drool over something, wait, wait, spend tons of cash and literally 2 days later all your investment isn't worth much at all. Nominal 100$/Euro that's price of waterblock and for custom cards even slightly more than that. I'm not a Linus or Jay2Cents who can just ring nVidia or Intel or whoever and say - 'hey give me 2 new Titans/100 10TB HDDs for new project'. Correction my Friend - its NOT how market works, its how corporations work. That's the key difference.

It never cease me to amaze how useful Ferengi's Rules of Acquisition really are. Number for today (and every other day) is 10: GREED is Eternal.

I'm cool, seriously. Thinking about new build and running in circles what I really want with this new project. At least few things are decided by now - Classy board, 1080, 850W P2 PSU and TT T900 case. Not much but its a start. LOL

Bdary thx once more, that's exactly what I was interested in. Default backplate use same default spacing while custom models not always, especially I had problems with Heatkillers (fantastic blocks) where backside is very pronounced and just simply can't be used on many boards - but it's in the box so no need to buy separately which is nice. *cough EK *cough*

Can't you just step up?  You should be in the clear other than some inconvenience.

A quick google search sent me to start trek on your "rule". lol

Here, I see it differently.  When there's no competition, a company can do as it wants while some might risk it for "greed" as you say or more profits, while other's won't.  Because of competition (AMD), the prices on the existing product were cut to make way of a new product while feeling the heat from a soon to be competitor so they were setting up the stage so to speak.  So yes, we are grateful except the few that got caught in the crossfire.  I wouldn't be surprised if there are even more price cuts down the line, dependent on the competitor which I would love to see.

As for step up I'm really confused. First responses were that only reference cards are available for step up and not FTW. So basically I just ignored the matter instead beating myself with this. Now thinking of it I have to get a 100% certain answer from EVGA. Will have to contact Europe HQ and ask, but on the other hand I don't want to wait forever to be stepped-up. It would be ludicrous not to have chance for a step-up for a card which worked for less than 3 minutes to test it.

Unfortunately I will never go AMD again. Deeply traumatized by multiple bad experiences. Never.
