Seems there is many teething troubles with this board from reading these forums, i also do not like the fact that a full mobo block is not coming out for it.
Im still on x58 so m desperate to upgrade but I think ill pass and wait for something else.
Thanks

I admit I have a few complaints, but its a good board. My hope is most little issues will be fixed with UEFI update, but people do not have much faith in EVGA in this area anymore.

In all fairness, you can OC just as well on a RIVE with zero issues so IF I could do it again I would go that route, but I really wanted to give the DARK a shot. (the black edition RIVE looks sweet, but for the difference in money the regular RIVE is fine for me)

Rive fan boys , lol. How unfair of them to expect the mobo to work as advertised.

Not at all statistically evident from the forum bud, just your take on it.

And you pulled that 1% number from where?

Run better on air is again your opinion.

Never had any problems with evga service in the many years I have been buying their products. Can't say about Asus because I have not had to use Asus service .

I will take a top line mobo that works as advertised over an evga mobo that you hope will get full functionality at some point, two years after socket 2011 released.

Nice to see them getting somewhat more proficient in their bios offerings but still not close to getting my money thanks.

There's a lot of problems with the X79 platforms and Ivy-E currently. I would buy a Z87 before I bought a X79. It's too bad, because the Ivy-E's are great cpu's,  they should of released a new deck for them, instead of trying to adapt a existing deck to a new cpu.

So far, it's been pretty smooth sailing. Had some initial setup issues that were my own fault. I disabled onboard Marvell RAID, and lost my USB3 ports. Turns out its a known issue. Also, while the board reads the XMP profile for my Mushkin memory properly, whenever I load it, it causes a blue screen. Not really that big of an issue for me anyhow, as I prefer to go in and set everything manually. Also, upon getting a new mouse yesterday, my board now emits a very short POST beep instead of a longer one with my old mouse. Dunno what that is about, but the board posts just fine. I have my 4820K at 4.2GHz right now, OC'ing was as simple as changing the multiplier and disabling some power saving features.

The voltage detection in CPU-Z is still way off. Lol.

Records are kind of silly unless you plan on running your board under an LN2 pot.....

Sorry Bud - but where is it written that Asus doesn't have any users experiencing Mother Board problems (where did you pull that Data from?)?  Do you have any hard data on this or is that just your experience on your one Asus Board?  Bud, my EVGA board is coming up on two years, running flawlessly.

Re: X79 Dark Users, How do you feel about the MB so far? 2013/12/01 12:07:29 (permalink)
Well I have my X-79 Dark still sitting here beside me, still new in the box. I ordered it back on Sept 24th, and have been slowly purchasing components for my new build. I pretty much have them all now.
I have been following this forum closely since about a week before I made the purchase. One thing I notice, is the amount of postings for help has really dropped a fair amount, this forum is not quite as active as it was a month or two ago. In fact I would say it really dropped after the 2.07 bios was released.

Now I supposed people could be bailing on it, but somehow I think one of the reasons for the decrease in activity is the board is becoming much more stable and better with these bios revisions.
I know I am feeling very good about my purchase, and am looking forward to putting all the components together the week of Dec 16th when I will be on vacation.  If it comes even close to the reliability, stability, and overclocking ability of my X-58 FTW, I will be very pleased.

Yep, this is how I have been seeing it also, still waiting on my custom water block from Nateman_doo to start
the build, got everything else.
First on my list will be updating to BIOS 2.07.
Really hoping everything goes smoothly with no Board issues, if worst comes to worse, I still have my RIVE in
it's box for backup.

Just FYI..

My board Came with the 2-way bios switch all the way to the right which had the 2.07 bios already loaded on it. I dont know what versions was on the other 2 positions, but was told they are older BIOS's.

Yes I believe someone said the new shipment of X79 DARK MB's are shipping with BIOS 2.07.
Mine is one of the first release so will still have the earliest BIOS.

Not a single Dark board left in Canada!  Tried to order from Amazon.ca and they promised a delivery AFTER CHRISTMAS.  NCIX.CA is out of stock and Newegg.ca has to ship out of New Jersey.  Ordered from Newegg.ca

I put to together my Dark with 4930k on the weekend.  So for my experience is very good.  I'm yet to overclock, still finishing the build.      The good thing, I'm able to update to the latest firmware on my LSI 9260-4i card on the dark board (no more ROM issue) I have install issues with Intel raid on (i put my  5 10k data drives on 3G+6G sata ports and during the installation, it keeps saying that its missing cd/dvd driver...    Once i set it to AHCI, it worked fine.   My OS goes to drives on my LSI controller.   I'm very happy with  new BIOS screens and it more meaningful.
The temperature  (42C) on the BIOS  screen is different from the one which is displayed on the MB (22C) ?
The latest  intel RST driver/software  needs to be installed to get rid of lot device ? marks after the install.  I'm not going to use marvel controller, so i didn't tested usb3 ports etc...i will update this once I'm able to do all that in coming days.

^^Cute..... ;) Agreed, for GPU's nothing but Evga for me !!!1 ...Last great evga Board was my old X58 759 Limited Edition Classified...awesome Board.....however, with X79 I wouldn't go anywhere near these new Evga line ups, not for over $400...hopefully Evga willl be able to get back in the mobo game...for X99 maybe?!
If I didnt have a perfectly fine working RIVE and needed a new X79 Board I'd definitely be picking up the Black Edition ;)

I have install issues with Intel raid on (i put my  5 10k data drives on 3G+6G sata ports and during the installation, it keeps saying that its missing cd/dvd driver...    Once i set it to AHCI, it worked fine.   My OS goes to drives on my LSI controller.

I had this exact same thing. I had my BLU RAY drive connected to the MARVEL controller. Windows installer refused to take ANY marvel driver, or intel driver. I move my blur ray to one of the intel controller and then was able to load the intel raid drivers as normal. Once windows was setup, I moved my blu ray back to the marvel controller, and windows kept asking for a driver for it even though the marvel drivers were installed.

This is the only issue I have had along with the Marvel eSATA not working either, and I'm awaiting an RMA for a new board.

Have pretty much kept out of the arguments on this one, as have no experience of the RIVE, but I must say that my experience of the Dark is great so far.
Board came with 2.01 BIOS, but on BIOS 3 she booted from DOS USB stick just fine and flashed straight to 2.07 with no issues.
Set-Up ran like a dream with watercooled 4820K and 2 x GTX780 Classy Hydro-Coppers.
Never had any of issues mentioned with power off and need to CMOS reset, even though I unplug PC when away for work, so have done this numerous times now.
Last PC build was X58, so this is first UEFI BIOS I've played with and in general I like very much
Went for Quad Core 4820K, as this is purely a gaming rig and reading posts on CPU selection, I decided that 4-cores was more than enough for the next few years games.
Overclocking has been very, very simple so far, but then I haven't pushed beyond 4.6Ghz, as found that 4.5Ghz on mine will run perfectly stable at 1.225v and even under full load this stays in mid 40's C with watercool, so am happy with that for now.
I am sure that some bought and will buy this board and will push everything much further, so may then hit issues I have not, but just for balance on this thread, thought should advise that for me as a gaming rig the Dark has been a dream (so far) and am very happy with it.

Great to hear - I too went with the 4820K for the same reasons, and when I do my build in a couple of weeks  if I can get mine to 4.5-4.6 ghz stable at a reasonable vcore, I will be very pleased. Gaming is pretty much the only thing I want this kind of system for, and even gaming for me is very limited.

Using the dark since the beginning and... so far running at 4.5Ghz (v2.07 @ 1.32vCore) all stable... absolutely no issues here - love the board.

Review of the X79 Dark-http://www.anandtech.com/show/7426/evga-x79-dark-review/7

"So the EVGA X79 Dark, has some serious out-of-the-box issues.  It all comes down to a small number of factors:
- BIOS 2.03 and 2.04 do not implement turbo mode correctly, however XMP and Overclocking are OK.
- BIOS 2.05 implements turbo mode correctly, but XMP and Overclocking are broken
"Performance is doubly hard to gauge with multipliers all over the place, as well as competing motherboards in the same price segment use MultiCore Turbo, meaning a 400 MHz boost across the range regardless of loading.  The result of this lower CPU speed did have a positive effect on our power consumption readings, at the expense of reduced performance."

Sounds like a mess, you have to switch between Bios's if you want to overclock, or use the XMP profile??

Most of that should be fixed on the latest BIOS update.

We will have a new release soon that will fix some more items as well.

I noticed one thing in bios,

1. If i disable  Intel Sata Raid , all the sata ports (disks) are disabled, but when i switch back to Raid again, all disks underneath that raid still remain disable (that should be enabled automatically).
2. If i power-off (unplug) and restart, all my bios setting are gone, i have load from my saved profile?  Anyone notice this?

I've read about the bios losing all the settings on here. Don't recall if anyone has tried to replace the battery on the board. If the battery goes dead, the bios will boot with defaults every time. Try replacing it.
