Turned updates back on, updated to the latest for 2004, then took the update to 20H2.  Wow that was a quick one.  If I'd realized it was like last fall's 1909 update I'd have done it sooner.  No issues so far.

Microsoft is working on a fix for an issue Insiders have reported where certain games like State of Decay 2, or Assassin’s Creed, may hang or crash when launching.
Microsoft is investigating an issue where Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War may not launch starting with this build. If you play these games, you may wish to pause updates until the issue is resolved.
Not anything I play, but I'm not to keen about this "News and Interests" taskbar flyout that "will not be displaying advertisements at launch but that may change over time based on customer feedback" makes me think of the old pop-up windows that were an issue many years ago but maybe even worst with the use of a machine learning behind it to profile us.

Oh that explains it.. My COD suddenly would not launch/open, kept saying something about unable to open or something like that. I uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail, so I have since just uninstalled it and left it that way. Got it free with my GPU so don't care all that much, but it seems it's MS related, although I am not on the insiders build...

Almost every time I install an update, I have to go back and fix many of the settings. Dirty tricks by MS.

Also note, when you select delayed updates, after an update is installed you have to go back in and select to delay updates again. That setting is a 'one-off' deal until you set it again.

Updated one of my systems to the 20H2 and now when I go to System Properties, it takes me to the Settings/Home/System/About instead of the old way where you have Device Manager, Remote Settings, System Protection and Device Manager in the top left corner. Is there a way to fix this? Only way I have found to get back to the previous System Properties is to open the Control Panel and put this "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System" into the bar, hit enter and I'm back to the old System Properties.

Probably need to do a reg edit?

Updated to 2H20.... so far I discovered my NVIDIA GPU performance setting somehow changed itself to "power optimization" which in turn was blocking the card from boosting 700Mhz. My static IPv4 settings were mostly, yet not entirely wiped which makes zero sense. The OS power profile settings were also partially modified. So nice of Microsoft to thoughtfully mess with settings without any notification whatsoever.

Whenever there's a sizable Windows update, I try to check all my settings, because invariably they set some of them back to defaults without telling you, it's really annoying.

That's just it, I expect this nonsense with drivers after an update. But 2H20 didn't change or nuke any drivers so I really wasn't expecting it to modify actual settings. The only time I've ever used power optimized mode for my GPU was when the AC was being replaced several years ago.

So I'm not sure how the 20H2 update installs itself, but past semi-annual updates have been essentially the "new install & migrate your stuff" type, the ones that leave a Windows.old folder for a week or two.  Those ones because it's basically a new install have reinstalled all of your drivers etc.  Really annoying for me because I have an original Saitek X52 with a "mouse" axis on the throttle and it always has to be disabled or it causes a permanent drift of the mouse cursor to the upper left.  I instantly know after if it was one of those kinds of updates or not because of that.

20H2 just installs like a regular update, and it's pretty fast because there's not really much that got changed. It doesn't reset or nuke drivers either, but it did change Windows settings.
