Woke up on the 2nd to a rig that could not reboot. (Page fault in a non paged area) or some such message. Should not have updated on it’s own but will try to figure out if this update may be responsible. Rig was crunching for the Formula Boinc race over night. When the race is over I’ll try again but booted in to Linux to finish the race and all is good with the hardware.

You reported problems last time too. Bad luck, or the rigs just can't handle the updates without a problem?

Generally my rigs update well, and I’m not entirely sure this issue was a result of an update. If it wasn’t I will post back and clarify it. Have to wait until Monday though.

Ok. Sounds good.

Everything looks good now, updated to KB4023057 successfully and have not done the optional KB5005101 yet. That should be the next patch Tuesday update.
I don't believe the update was the issue but might have contributed in combination with the crunching tasks that used a lot of memory per task. Was running 8/8 cores so lots of RAM being chewed up.

At least once a year I have a windows update, where after my computer restarts it just gets hung up at like 43% for hours. I let it sit, I try to be patient, but it never finishes. Best case scenario I restart my computer and try again, worst case scenario I have to use windows recovery tool because the update hang tried to murder my computer.

Lately I have been lucky with Windows updates, no issues.

But lately have had my fair share of issues with MacOS Big Sur.

I found that odd as well.  I was expecting to see updates earlier in the week, but nothing.  Then this morning I got the updates mentioned by Xray above.  Everything is working fine so far.

Re: Windows Updates successes and/or problems thread 2021/10/13 03:35:33 (permalink)
I have my win10 rig fully updated.   I have a question though:  Its a 7700k, and the only cons preventing win11 install is the CPU, at the Microsoft check app it will check all boxes but the cpu not compatible.
Long story short, I modified the reg to bypass the cpu and install win11, but what happened is Win10 updated to install Win11, and PC restarted and went to blue screen with menus that Windows cant boot because failed, tried everything with not avail, had to reformat with a Win10 boot DVD and it didnt want to reinstall Windows, but with diskpart and clean all command I could finally wipe my C: drive and erase the startup file and install clean a new Win10 install.
What happened here?  is a solution to just install Win11, or should I just try to install W11 with the boot ISO clean install?  thanks in advance, it happened 2 times yet. 2 times I have lost all my work and info due to a corrupted start.

From Microsoft:

NEW 11/9/2021

Because of minimal operations during the holidays and the upcoming Western new year, there won’t be a preview release (known as a “C” release) for the month of December 2021. There will be a monthly security release (known as a “B” release) for December 2021. Normal monthly servicing for both B and C releases will resume in January 2022.
