Although I haven't seen any solid news on the 14900k's, I am interested in purchasing Z790 Dark .. but wanting to hold off until I hear something about the upcoming refresh of CPU's.
I saw Gigabyte had a BIOS update that included support for "next generation CPUs" on its Z790 platform, and was curious if there has been any mention of the Dark's or Classified's being next-gen compatible.

I heard rumors that Intel may use a new socket for desktops, and the refresh was only for the other platforms, but if you saw something like that for Z790 boards from a manufacturer, then it must be going in that direction. I couldn't imagine EVGA not doing it. EVGA always seems to be ahead of industry standard in terms of BIOS especially. I would pretty much count on it, but don't take it from me, I am only speculator.

EVGA always seems to be ahead of industry standard in terms of BIOS especially.
Ha! Software and firmware have been what EVGA has consistently struggled with the most. I would rate them below average. I would pretty much count on it, but don't take it from me, I am only speculator. I think it is unlikely. EVGA seems dead to me. Who even is still an EVGA employee? I wouldn't say never, but I definitely would not "count on it" when making a relevant decision.

https://forums.evga.com/Profile/167829/ has been active a few hours back, AFAIK he is one of the two Bios guys left, and the TO / poster of the Beta Bios 1.15 Thread. no idea if this means something, no statement from guys @ or with EVGA all, i assume EVGA shut down is just getting closer.

Well now im not sure what to do. Confimation that current Z790 boards will support 14900k's and will be updated as such, but now hearing EVGA is getting out of the mobo side of business. Guess it would kind of stink to purchase a Dark only for there to be no new BIOS updates after the new CPU's release.

The Dark is an excellent board, but a board intended for experienced enthusiast users who can tolerate at least a mild level of sw support, as for example I pointed out in a special thread the drivers are never updated, ever. In short, you cannot expect the support that the apex receives, forget it, but you will have a great piece of hardware with some technical solutions that still remain unique in its field. edit: in summary i love this board and i can tolerate this behavior, but only because i have several other systems, in the current situation i wouldn't buy an evga motherboard if it was my only pc.

Can confirm it does, I initially flashed 1.13 and booted fine then flashed 1.14 and helped with 8000mhz ram. It's hard to cool tho, have it delidded and ek direct die and it still hits 100c without undervolting in cinebench.

I got a call and follow up email from Chris as well, regarding two new beta BIOSs for Z790 boards, Classified and KingPin.
The email message is:
"Thank you for your time on the phone and attached is the BETA BIOS for the E798 and E799 MBs which can support the current gen Intel processors.
Also please take note that EVGA strongly suggest using the current BIOS unless you want to use a current next Gen CPU and only flash to #3 on the Motherboard so you can go back to previous BIOS if any issues.

Ok guys, FINAL BETA BIOS is finally here I9 14900K working perfectly on Z790 DARK KINGPIN 48GB 2x24GB 8000mhz no issues

That appears to be the 1.17 BETA BIOS that was released in April of this year, which does NOT have the Intel Voltage corrections for the most recent 13th/14th gen K-CPU voltage issues.
If that's the case then make sure you cap the CPU power to 253W, and ICCMAX to 400A, otherwise you'll burn up your CPU.

well, after a few days of use, this BIOS is just perfect 48GB 2x24GB DDR5 8000mhz with XMP only, no manual tuning, 100% stable in all uses, work or gaming, passed all MEMTEST test without problems! 14900K "without the latest Intel fix", not necessary, works perfect, 40k+ in Cinebench R23 with everything stock, P Cores x56 all + E Cores x44 all, power limit released, consumes about 350w under load, DOES NOT DO THERMAL THROTTLING with an AIO! I don't even have a delid, I don't even use a custom wc, just AIO

 Thought your score would be a bit higher with that faster ram. My Z690 Dark Kingpin @ stock settings with a 13900k, EVGA 280mm AIO, & 32GB's of 5600 ram scores slightly better...

Just make sure you don’t cook your CPU. We are still waiting for EVGA to release BIOS with 0x129 microcode

Where does one get this 1.17 beta BIOS with 14th gen support? I realize it doesn't have the microcode, but intel is replacing my 13th gen with a 14th and well I'd rather not buy a new motherboard if I didn't have to.
