Another package I'm looking at.   A bit better than the last one I posted about since this one can reside on your server so you completely own it and can control security more.

http://www.realchat.com/

Try it on my server here:
http://75.131.177.37:8080

Unfortunately the eval copy is limited to 5 users.  Not gonna spend money on it if it's not liked.

Hello All,

We have taken the chat down for maintenance and evaluating the software we use.   Several factors are being looked at including the numerous other chat options available now, uptime, security, moderation, usage statistics, necessary maintenance and upkeep, etc.

At this time we do not have an ETA for it being back up.

Thank You,
Rob

The issues with the Evga chat have been known for at least two years. Why would you just now start "evaluating" the software? We've dealt with the chat for quite some time, why can't you just leave it up while you "evaluate" it?  Seems to me like you guys are killing it, and want to avoid people becoming upset over it so you're just going us a line of bullsh*t with no plans of ever trying something new.

Evga has been looking to kill the chat for quite some time. If you're really going to kill it, then at least have the courtesy to give it to us straight up. The chat hasn't been updated since it's been installed to my knowledge, and we've lived with the countless bugs in it all this time. Now you guys decide to just close it "for maintenance", with no apparent interest in ever working on it.

Rob will actually say "We apologize for the inconvenience. We are currently doing maintenance on chat, that is the reason for it being down.  We will update you on the situation as soon as possible"

Re:Whats up with chat? Sunday, October 09, 2011 10:48 PM (permalink)
I have to say, after looking at a lot of different programs offered for the type of community chat that EVGA would need if they do actually want to continue having a chat feature, the Cutesoft chat is probably one of the best options out there.  How it is so trivial for EVGA to invest in it (or any other for that matter) is still a point of question.  Based on the software pricing / licensing structure I've come across, the average cost for a license that I would buy as well as what should suit the needs of EVGA has on average been around $300.  With the exception of one good looking package I looked at where the enterprise version that would be needed ran about $3000 dollars.

C'mon EVGA, this is where you should be reaching out to your community for people who are experts on the matter or can help narrow down the search.  The cost is minimal.  Bring back a great feature for the community.

i would like to keep this alive, a few of us have put up helpful information and maybe a few things that might help with the chat situation (such as skydive's input). EVGA please take notice of this. the chat area was/is an awesome thing and i hope it can continue on, i certainly enjoy in and i know dozens of others enjoy it as well. we've weathered issues before, specifically the spammers that we've dealt with, chat bugs like the crashes etc and some other random issues....we can deal with the issues that may have occurred this time.

Just kidding (sort of).  The gist of that is correct.  I have explained the situation already in this thread.  At no point did I say we are "killing chat" (nor did I imply it).  Again, we are looking at alternate solutions however the programmers are currently working on a few very large projects with the highest priority.  I will keep you updated as to any progress, but there is not currently an ETA.

I wanted to thank you all for the input regarding chat software options.  We will look into those in addition to any others that come highly recommended.

Thanks,
Rob

Hey, I appreciate EVGA for upgrading chat. Others can moan, and complain. But yet they would moan and complain if you never uodated it also. Just like BF3 people, they begged for a beta, they got it, and now hate it.

I just wanna say thank you EVGA, and thanks to the admins. I really appreciate everything you do for us.

Haha, just kidding. But I agree with you. Our lives isn't over because chat is down. I go outside play with my dogs, BBQ, run, etc.

For me, that is one of the great appeals of having the real time chat.  I have a pretty busy life and can no longer (and for quite some time now) spend a lot of times on the forums.  It provides a way to have conversations with members of the EVGA community I have come to know well over the years.  At times it is providing knowledge in different areas of expertise and others... Well, just shooting the breeze.

Years ago, before the internet became mainstream (age giveaway here) I ran a multi-line BBS system for years.  One of the most loved features of it was the real-time chat.  Aside from using skype in a video conference, this is probably the best way to connect with people over a large geographic area.

Now, where is DE or Drerex so I can point at them and yell, "They're older than I am!!"

HAHA I was right I remember "someone" talking about that and saying its soooo big/amazing (*waits for Nordic) that it will 'cause the end as we know it; I can say that the ETA will be 2012 based on that so chat should come in late 2012 or early 2013
