What happened to regular GTX 1080 TI FTW3s?

Why are they being sold for $1000+ on amazon and newegg? And why are the regular FTW3 (non DT) cards not available anymore from the EVGA shop?
 
I waited six months while on my aging GTX 760 waiting for the 2080 and it's absolute garbage, so I want to pick up a 3-fan EVGA 1080 Ti, but it seems like the normal FTW3s at reasonable prices have vanished.

    Strange I see them all over New Egg and Amazon for around $700...have you considered clearing your internet cache?

    The one for 709 dollars is a DT FTW3, not a regular FTW3.
     
    The cheapest regular FTW3 it seem is the 849 one you linked, however that is still the price of the standard 2080 from EVGA. 
     
    I could remember several weeks ago there were tons of regular FTW3s for 700 flat. My main question is why aren't the FTW3s being sold on the EVGA store?

    Well of course we can't answer that specific question. Call up EVGA and ask them if they are EOL or they will again have stock. Other than that, it is just guessing.
