I bought the EVGA Dark motherboard (that was before the 390 came out) so I'm still trying to figure out the cpu.
I have everything except that to finish my build.
Should I spend the $2000 on the 18 core i9 (because SETI uses gpu cores and cpu cores) or can I get away with something cheaper?
I would love your peoples opinion.

The "new" Intel X-series CPUs for socket 2066 are just about ready to drop @ ~ 1/2 the Price

Intel has already announced they are cutting Retail price of existing CPU up to 50%

I'd wait for the new CPUs   i9-10980XE

If you plan on doing primegrid once in a while, you may want one with dual AVX-512 chipset.
I believe x299 CPUs have it. Maybe Bcav will chime in, I know he has a couple.

The i9-10980XE is not listed but I don't prime grid (I do SETI).

It's interesting that my new rig (Ryzen 2600X, EVGA 1080 Hybrid is reporting 141,000 + WU's) while my EVGA X299 FTW-K, i9 7900X, RTX 2080 Ti Ultra is reporting 139,000 + WU's.
I think that because  I do snooze BOINC ( on my EVGA X299 FTW-K, i9 7900X, RTX 2080 Ti Ultra) when I play games and convert files and the Ryzen just works the SETI.
Anyway, I want to buy a new case for water cooling a RTX 2080 Ti Ultra air (I bought the water block for that card from EVGA) and for my new i9 cpu (not bought yet) and bcavnaugh suggested EK water parts
and I want to water cool the cpu too.
Price is not a factor but easy maintenance is.
Soooo, what would you buy?

All AVX-512 capable CPUs have 2. 9900X and 10000X and Xeons have the AVX-512 at a much reduced clock. Typically the offeet is double that of normal AVX instructions.

Not exactly a new member but have been off grid for a while. Set up one of my servers about a month ago and have been crunching. So what did I miss over the last 5 years or so?

Wow, hope all is well with you.

Well projects and people come and go, the main big ones are still around. This morning at 8:00 AM eastern a 3 day PrimeGrid race starts with SGS LLR tasks. They are very short and built for servers. We enjoy battling other teams in these competitions.

The small team you helped create is doing well and competing with the big boy’s internationally.

Good to see the bazooka squirrel again. Going down to fire up PG now.

Thanks. I was diagnosed with cancer myself 2 1/2 years ago. Went through the mill of surgery, chemo and radiation. Ain't the same as I used to be but all testing has come back negative so far. Also retired from Nursing a few years ago, went back to college, got t degree in computer science and am now a Network Engineer. Life's funny ain't it.
