Just don’t buy it. Let them waste their money attempting to sell it.

Realistically this person will accidentally sell it to someone with stolen credit cards and will get chargeback once banks realize after it shipped.

The second realistic scenario is that they'll have to drop the prices significantly to more reasonable prices once stock catches up.

Realistically someone will probably just buy it and use it sorry to burst your bubble.

Lol this. Scalpers are still buying and selling these cards because...well...they're easily selling them at these crazy prices.

This is why I ...... NEVER PAY ABOVE LIST

It meant that I did not build my current rig until I waited over a year to find a reasonably priced and at list: 1.  CPU, the 3950X was over list for months and months, GPU, 2070 Super.. the 2080 Supers were all well above list by at least $150 bucks ALL through this last year.

I was willing to just keep using my 4 year old laptop.. or even buy another laptop.

I am also, now willing to use my yesteryears tech evga 2080 super ftw3 forever if needed.. or until I can find a better GPU.  However brand loyalty went out the window.  This process is a bit worse then back in august 19 when I thought about building a new rig.

I don't think evga does AMD based GPUs.

but yeah.. seriously if I had to build a rig tomorrow I would really have a hard time finding a gpu that would not need to be replaced or was not used

It is frustrating to see people doing this.

Probably EVGA can avoid this if the serial number is registered automatically to the account that purchased the Video card and block any change for the next 6 months or something like that. This will allow to real a legitime owners get a video card. The problem will be on those cards sold by Amazon, Neweeg, Best Buy, Micro Center.

Only $2899? Strix 3090`s are selling for $4000. Absolutely ridiculous. Thing is, some well off people will buy them especially with shortages and approaching holidays. I spoke to a best buy rep yesterday and explained the scalper and bot issues and he literally laughed on the phone. They simply don't care who buys them and what they do with them. People need their toys you know.

2890-1920 so they are roughly making 1k on the card. For those with disposable incomes who don't care it'll sell. Though after shipping + eBay fees and paypal there are making all of 600-700 bucks.

I hate to say but some scalpers are not scalpers so to speak but are using the market demand to end up with a free card. Some of them are pc builders and or gamers. Think about it. If you can write python scripts and land yourself two 3090s with an average mark up of 1200-1500 you can keep one and sell the 2nd for double and you now effectively paid zero dollars for the card. Is it right to do? Absolutely not but from a business perspective for ppl that don't want to shell out 1500 bucks, they don't have too.. people are buying them at double the cost and writing them off as a business expense. The reason is simple, if you can cut production time in half, still charge clients the same rate then you effectively made double the hourly rate. The users are sometimes are only as good as the tools they have. The 3090 is a tool and if I didn't land one from newegg business I probably would have paid 4k for the card because so far the card as paid for itself 10 fold.

As for myself I picked up mine for 3k after selling my 2080 for 600 and my 3080 for 1400 I only paid out 1k for the card which was still cheaper then msrp. even if you minus the initial cost of a 3080 from the 1400 it comes out to exactly msrp. In the end it didnt effect me much. Those with money and the means will buy a product at a higher price when supply is low. People have to remember their economics classes here. In the end its a luxury good for 80% of people. If we applied this to cars that cost X and only made 5 in the world you bet that they would either be kept to increase value or resold at a profit. Do I like it nah not really, but I wanted a 3090 not a 3080 and selling the 3080 at market price was the easiest way to get a 3090.

My view exactly. The truth is though a lot of people are gamers running from pay check to pay check and all of 1499 took them 3 months to save for or it can be college kids on a shoe string budget. I was there once too. Some of us have careers and dropping even 10k is a drop in the bucket. It took me 10 years to build my business and gain a large client base and it was very hard work generating multiple revenue streams of incomes both active and passive. I understand their frustrations for Nvidia dropping the ball but until the manufacture can meet demand they just need to be patient and wait.

Do I need a 3080 right now?  No.  Do I want one?  Yes.  The main thing tempering my patience right now is that my Optimus water block isn't slated to get here until mid to late November.  After that, if I don't have a card in hand, I'll probably start considering how much my time is worth as I have been putting off a complete system teardown and rebuild for a while now, and I want to just get it done and move on to other projects.

Now take in to consideration that with the current Que system that scalper can easily scalp all 4 cards with no effort at all then just buy himself a card of choice at cost... Not really the best system IMO.

Understand your point and I do agree however,
I'm an engineer and engineer life safety systems which go into about 90% of the commerical buildings out there depending on the requirements set forth by the IBC, NFPA-101 and local jurisdictional amendments. I am doing double the work with the 3090 which translates into more safety systems designed for new buildings. Occupant safety is just as important.

A transferable warranty is also a scalpers dream, and possibly needs to go at least for a period after launch.

The problem is, the only way that person would get in trouble for it at all would be if the person that buys it reports to eVGA what the Serial Number on the card is & then eVGA bans whoever originally registered that card from ever being able to buy on their site again.  That's the worst thing that could happen to them.
Governments need to get with the times & pass legislation like they did for ticket scalping, for electronics, so that people can face serious consequences for this stuff.  I get that supply & demand is a thing, and people are willing to pay over market to get stuff NOW when things are in a shortage, but when things are selling for twice their actual MSRP, that's a little on the insane side imo.
I check the other day & 3080s are still nearly-insta-selling on EBay when sold as Buy It Now, for $1300-$1500, at least a few a day.  EBay literally doesn't care because they make money off things all the same, it's not their job to police such things.  eVGA can't really do a whole lot either other than ban anyone who's caught doing it from being able to purchase on the site again, and I don't know if they'll go that far.
I'm just glad they implemented the queue system, otherwise I'd still be waiting to even GET a 3080.  Hopefully they continue to use that when the Hybrid cards, 3070s and next generation comes out, so that people like us that actually buy the cards to USE them, have a legitimate chance to get one in at least somewhat of a timely manner.

When the 2080ti came out in 2018 it was 999 to 1199+ and we were all happy to shell out 1200 bucks. So for a few hundred bucks more if you want a 3080 now you are theoretically paying for what it is really worth for the performance gain over the 2080ti. It's a good thing nvidia set the price point where they did for the 3080 or it would be selling for 3k and a 3090 for 6k

"We" were *not* happy to pay $1200 for the 2080ti. I would have been "okay" paying $700 for a 2080Ti, but the performance improvement over my 1080Ti just didn't warrant the price hike.

I think a lot of people sat on their money too, since Jensen came right out and pitched dierectly to Pascal owners in the 3080 launch video.

I'm still rocking my x2 680 Hydro's. While it's annoying to not have been able to get my hands on a 3090 on launch and as such not able to complete my new build until stock catches up. I've lasted this long, I can wait a bit more and not pay scalper prices. It is frustrating and as others have mentioned it'd be nice if system(s) could be implemented to more seriously penalize those scalping and furthermore just prevent scalping as much as any system can.

Realistically this person will accidentally sell it to someone with stolen credit cards and will get chargeback once banks realize after it shipped.

The second realistic scenario is that they'll have to drop the prices significantly to more reasonable prices once stock catches up.

Agree 100%

You never know if you will get scammed for $3000 and honestly that is not worth spending $3,000 on.

Just wait in line and buy directly from EVGA using the auto notify queue system.

I agree 100% on the government needs to take action.

The people who argue against this is the scalpers though and they will say that capitalism and free market should exist.

But that argument doesn't hold up since these scalpers are using bots which is hacking and getting the products in massive quantities by abusive means.

Unless something changes, people wont be able to buy Graphics Cards, Game Consoles, Electronics from the manufacturers for years to come.
