Sajin When the OP says slot 3 he actually means slot 4.
jblanc03
SuperConker Didn't know you had 3 of them hehe. Are they installed in the red slots? there is one black PCI-E slot on your motherboard, and that slot will run at 2.0. The red ones should all be 3.0.
wow of course. come on man lol
So does the OP have 2 Cards or 3 Cards?
3
Then he will get X16 X8 X16 in Slots 1 2 & 4(3)

No desktop CPU's are currently able to run 3 (or even 4) cards at full 16x on all of them, as there isn't enough PCI-E lanes in the CPU. You can run up to 2 cards at 16x, but the 3rd card will only run at 8x, this is normal. And since it's PCI'E 3.0 at 8x, you won't lose any speed at all.

Found the CPU a i7-3960x Going with 3 Titan X I would have updated the CPU to a FULL GEN3 CPU like the i7-4960X or even the i7-4930K for Ture GEN3 that is.

sorry and thank you for your help!
Now i need to find a special extension cable that will connect the PCIE 1x slot just underneath my 2nd card that will let me connect the other end to my soundcard so i can move it down below my motherboard in one of my empty case slots

No, you will still be running at 16/8/16 due to the limitations of your chip at 40 PCIe lanes.

I didn't see you mention the sound card before. Glad you got it figured out. Sorry for repeating questions, but this shoes why it is incredibly important to start any post with the location of all hardware and hardware type.

No, you will still be running at 16/8/16 due to the limitations of your chip at 40 PCIe lanes.
The PCIe slots are simple to understand – each slot is designated either a primary slot (1,3,5,7) or a secondary slot (2,4,6). The primary slots are all x16 routed, via the PLX chips. The secondary slots are all x8 routed, and when occupied drop the speed of the primary slot underneath to x8 as well. Here is a crudely drawn chipset diagram to explain: Primary slots will make the GPU's x16. So you want your Titans on Slot 1,3, 5 & 7. Sense you also threw a sound card in there that's most likely whats causing havoc. I know on certain boards you can do SLI+sound SLI+Physx or just 3-Way SLI unless sound card is say PCI old school. X79 from Asrock has 2 PLX Chips to add additional lanes to the PCI to help with SLi 4-way. While YES the CPU is maxed @ 40 lanes, with the 2x PLX Chips it does help bump the lanes for 4-way SLi. Asrock X79 is a $600 board with the PCI-E lanes distributed to it in two places not just you're basic board with a single 16 lanes like say my i5 4690K. Would need a classified board in order to get or enjoy 3-4way SLi. His board is basically a Classified version for Asrock.

Something that would be worth mentioning, alot of manufacturers put a stamp on their motherboards to show which PCIE slots run at x16, x8 and even x4 to make it easier for the user.

You don't need a riser, I've tested SLI on this motherboard [Rampage IV Extreme] with a soundcard. Slot 1 and 4 for video cards [runs them at full x16] than slot 3 for PCIe soundcard. Slot 3 doesn't affect the other slots since slot 2 and 3 are divided. As long as slot 2 remains open, it will keep Slot 1 and 4 at x16

Reading the Manual for his motherboard also would have told him this, at least what PCIe Slots he needs to put the cards in.

im sorry but you are mistaken i have my cards in slot 1 and 3 and my soundcard is in Slot 4(I dont Count the black x1 slots, just the red). thats right hope that makes more sense. so with slot 4 occupied in this configuration the 3rd slot reverts to x8 native. it shows in the motherboard bios. as soon as i removed my soundcard from slot 4, the card in slot 3 shows x16 now. so my plan is to move my soundcard to where it should of gone in the first place which is the black x1 slot just below/after the RED slot 3. does that make more sense?

Warboy You don't need a riser, I've tested SLI on this motherboard [Rampage IV Extreme] with a soundcard. Slot 1 and 4 for video cards [runs them at full x16] than slot 3 for PCIe soundcard. Slot 3 doesn't affect the other slots since slot 2 and 3 are divided. As long as slot 2 remains open, it will keep Slot 1 and 4 at x16
He has 3 GPUs, would this still work?
im sorry but you are mistaken i have my cards in slot 1 and 3 and my soundcard is in Slot 4(I dont Count the black x1 slots, just the red). thats right hope that makes more sense. so with slot 4 occupied in this configuration the 3rd slot reverts to x8 native. it shows in the motherboard bios. as soon as i removed my soundcard from slot 4, the card in slot 3 shows x16 now. so my plan is to move my soundcard to where it should of gone in the first place which is the black x1 slot just below/after the RED slot 3. does that make more sense?
I am Sorry I was mistaken, please accept my apologies. I was only going by what your Motherboards Manual shows.

GPU-Z shows 3 of my 4 cards as Gen 1.1, do not believe what GPU-Z is showing you.

Hey i already got this resolved sorry for getting back to everyone so late. Yes GPU Z will at times show 1.1 when the GPU is not being utilized. IF you were to fire up a game/application that utilizes the GPUs, those numbers should shoot to 3.0. My issue was i needed to run the .exe file provided by asus or nvidia that fixes the OS registry entries to allow PCIE 3.0 for i73960x cpu's on some motherboards. also i needed to move my Souncard to the PCIE 1x slot using this http://www.ebay.com/itm/l...517?lpid=82&chn=ps
