Try to run FurMark or something in Windowed mode (not fullscreen) so you can see both the test, and GPU-Z at the same time, and see if it changes to 3.0 while the GPU is under load.

the most important thing is what happens under load. click on the "?" to the right and start the render test. does the PCIE 2.0 change to 3.0 or not?

Never noticed there was a test under "?" lol. That's even easier to do than to install FurMark or something to test it. Even though it should be 3.0 at 16x on your motherboard, you won't lose any performance if it still runs at 2.0 and 16x as you can see here in this chart:

BUT IN 3way SLI!!???? YES THERE IS A big difference! at least thats what ive read before. And there is definitely something wrong if its showing me 2.0! thats not cool. I even did a brand spanking thoroughly clean install of the latest drivers too. I am running latest version of both GPUz and INspector

Didn't know you had 3 of them hehe. Are they installed in the red slots? there is one black PCI-E slot on your motherboard, and that slot will run at 2.0. The red ones should all be 3.0.

You most likely need the force-enable-gen3 patch that some X79-based motherboards need to get PCIe 3.0..That will probably fix it..When you change drivers or install/repair install the OS you'll need to run the patch again, so save it.

thanks for this! but i already have this but have not yet tried to install it. i looked at the website and it seems this is only for a certain list of cards and the TITAN X is not one of them so i did not feel comfortable trying this yet. affraide it might break the card you think i should try it>?

Always better safe than sorry, can't blame you there, but here is the updated (05/15/2014) info from NVIDIA..Run the patch and you should enjoy PCIe 3.0 on your X79-based motherboard..It adds the registry entry RMPcieLinkSpeed..To remove the entry, put the force-enable-gen3.exe patch on C:\ and run CMD, then C:\force-enable-gen3.exe -revert <Enter>.

It's actually not the motherboard but the CPU limitation with NVIDIA cards. Ivy Bridge-E processors 'fixed' this 'issue'. If my memory doesn't fail me, AMD's cards worked just fine without any patches in PCIe 3.0 out of the box, but not NVIDIAs cards. NVIDIA had some issues with validations on Sandy Bridge-E. However in most case the patch works just perfectly, I've had many Sandy Bridge-E processors and no issues running PCIe 3.0. :) If I am wrong feel free to correct me.

you're 100% correct. Nvidia didn't bother to have support with the sandy bridge processor because Intel didn't "officially" acknowledge that pcie 3.0 cards would work with that processor because there were "none available" at the time that the sandy bridge processors came out. Intel, to this day, still does not have "official support", but some agents confirm it works, others will not confirm it. That's when Nvidia had the patch file to "force enable" pcie 3.0 on sandy bridge processors. However, Nvidia, does not have any tech support if it doesnt work. because intel doesn't support it either. sounds complicated. Makes it sound like, "if it doesn't work for you", it's not our problem, because we told you already it's 'not' supported."

jblanc03 and before you ask. yes in my motherboard bios i have all pcie lanes set to GEN3 which is PCIE 3.0!
With that then use a real tool to see what they are running. Use NVIDIA Control Panel and at the Bottom Left Click System Information and see what it shows. Note: you should not need the Click here to download force-enable-gen3.exe if you have an i7-4xxxX CPU. Also the last 3 Drivers on your Motherboard I did not need to use the Patch as well with an i7-3xxxX CPU. And in your Motherboard Bios set the Gen from Auto to GEN3 on all your Card PCIe Slots.

OK! i was able to get it to show PCIE 3.0 on both PCIE LANES!! by using force-enable-gen3.exe but now i have another problem:mad: My motherboard is Rampage IV extreme. This motherboard allows me to turn off PCIE lanes with a conveniant little switch box right near the CPU. I have only 2 PCIE lanes Turned on. PCIE 3.0 1st Slot 16X/Running at 16X AND PCIE 3.0 3rd Slot 16X/8X running at 8X!!!!!!!????? Since i am trouble shooting this issue, i turned off all lanes except PCIE Lane 3 Look at what GPUZ and Nvidia Control Panel is showing me is showing: I know my motherboard trust me! i know i have both my cards in the right PCIE lane for 16.0 FOR BOTH but for some reason my 3rd PCIE Lane is showing me that the card is running at 8.0!!!! I know i have my motherboard bios setup correctly too. I have also tried turning off all lanes except lane 2 & 3 and booting up and it still shows the card @ 8X on LANE 3! in both my MB bios and GPUZ. Why is this happening? should'nt both cards run at 16X?????? Any thoughts?

First and foremost, I may sound rude for saying this, but calm down. Relax. It is a computer and things happen.
Your cards don't decide what speed they run at, believe it or not. This is the cpu and motherboard causing this. I have the x79 Dark and it didn't the same thing.
Check your bios settings again, after the force enable pcie 3.0 patch, and make sure everything is set to either auto or x16.
Your cards are fine, this is the motherboard and cpu doing everything you are experiencing. Freaking out about paperweights for no reason is only going to stress you out more. Everything you are pitching is the cpu/motherboard side, not your card, so please, stop thinking you are going to brick your cards when you aren't even updating or affecting them, lol.

im not freaking out, i am just concerned . I am freaking out at you guys telling me to check the stuff i explicitly say in my posts that i already checked Please read more carefully. My motherboard is configured correctly. I have latest bios. Ver 4901. CPU is overclocked to 4.5ghz not that this matters. All my PCIE Lanes are set mannually to GEN 3 and there is no way to mannually set your lanes to 16X!. the only thing that exists in the bios is a LANE SIMULATOR, which basically allows me to Simulate whether a PCIE Slot is occupied or not! I dont know what i can do to determine whether my CPU or Motherboard is messed up. I guess i might be in the wrong forum and perhaps i should go on ROG forums for this motherboard.

This is normal. The board still sees your 3 TitanX's even though you have the lanes disabled. With three GPU's installed your board runs the lanes at 16/8/16.
so if i physically remove the middle card from the slot, will it show 16x on both slot 1 and slot 3? you think that is whats causing it to show 8x? and i dont see in Nvidia Control Panel/System information where you see that it is detecting 3 cards. where is it?

Yes, you need to physically remove the card and then 1 & 3 will run at x16.
