I seem to keep acquiring USB devices and have now filled nearly all of the ones on the I/O panel on my motherboard. I was thinking of offloading my USB headset (Steelseries Pro with GameDAC unit) and/or my newly acquired Logitech Webcam to the USB ports on the monitor and connect that up (assuming it's a powered hub built in). I'm wondering though if it's advisable or even works to plug sound and video devices like that into a hub? The monitor has two USB ports to plug things into. My options for what to move to it are the following.
Steelseries GameDAC with Steelseries Pro RGB headphones
Logitech 922 cam
Saitek X52 joystick with lit display and some lit buttons
external hard drive for backups only occasionally turned on
external DAC for high quality audio listening with regular headphones
RGB mouse
RGB keyboard
I guess I'm just worried about straining the power section/USB headers on my 4 year old Z97 motherboard, but I'm not sure what I can move without causing performance issues to those items. I've read in the past some things don't play well with hubs even if they're powered.
