Kruunk83 How is everyone doing the power supply connectors? My old setup called for 2 8-pin connectors. The FTW3 Ultra that I'm getting calls for 3. I had to order an extra 8-pin connector.
I'm just going to use 2 8/6+2 cables. I think I read somewhere that was okay.
won't you be short on power?
Card pulls 450W with the OC bios so it should be fine with one 8 pin and 8/6+2 but I might grab another 8 pin just to be on the safe side.
Sorry, I'm rather new to PCs. So you'll only have two cords? All my cords are 6+2 on one side and 8 on the other but I have 3. Are you saying you can run the card with just two power cords?
Correct. Your way is more ideal for sure. It's just that the Corsair PSU I have only came with the 8/6+2 daisy chain cables and no induvial 8 pins so I'll have an extra connector hanging off. Hope that makes sense it is a little confusing lol.
Does your way void the warranty? I just borrowed one from a friend as he had two extra EVGA cords. When I get my new 750w psu I should have some extra as well. All I'm hearing is don't daisy chain the cords. I'm guessing that means plugging in the one hanging off into the third slot.

you really want to be careful doing that, the pin out on the PSU'S may be different. Does you friend have the EXACT same power supply as you? If not I would call EVGA and ask if those cables are compatible. You don't want to blow up your new card the day you get it. Kruunk83 I just borrowed one from a friend as he had two extra EVGA cords.

Kruunk83 it's the same pin connectors I think what they are saying is just because it fits mechanically doesn't mean the wires are the same electrically. It is possible for different vendors (and even different models at same vendor) to wire their connectors differently. To think of it differently, think of these shapes+colors: Model 1 has SQUARE+RED and CIRCLE+ BLACK. Model 2 could have SQUARE+RED and CIRCLE+ GREEN . They would mechanically fit (CIRCLE & SQUARE) but the CIRCLEs are different colors.

Ive never had to do it personally, but my guess would be using a multi-meter and continuity mode. So, take a cable and pick a pin. Then test the other side to see where that pin goes to the other end of the cable. Do the same process to the same pins on the other cable. If they match, then you're all set. If they don't match, then you know they are electrically different.

This is from the EVGA Graphics Manual 2021. Three 8-pin VGA "dongles" from two power ports on the PSU is officially supported (see Option 4).

Looks like you're to fine to use the daisy chain style of cable. If you still plan to use that borrowed cable please just call evga tech support and ask them if the cable will work in your power supply. They will easily be able to confirm it for you, no need for a multimeter or anything like that.

I have to say, while I'm super excited that I can finally do my step up, I'm really disappointed that its happening just before my time off for Christmas. I don't have an extra GPU to throw in my system to hold me over while I'm doing the step up process. I wish EVGA offered a system like the advanced RMA thing. I would 100% pay for the step up card to be sent out and get the credit issued after they received the old GPU back. But I guess that's wishful thinking.

I thought I'd get it this week for sure but 2 off lol. I don't want to sound entitled but what is the point of step up if 8000 series cards are out by the time half these people get their cards? Isn't the purpose of the program to protect people that buy a card and a new one comes out soon after? The queue system for buying a card the normal way is great and I probably should have took my XC notification I got. Not sure step up is worth waiting half a year and going without a pc for however long it takes to ship. Just my 2 cents.

Got my 3080 yesterday. Came 2 days early, while my card was delivered 2 days late lol Black ends, sn2012, made in China. Could get +150 core OC: normal bios, air cooled, didn't break 70c, 400w max per gpu z. Trying out the 450w bios hoping everyone gets theirs soon Edit: +150 core, 160 turned out to only to get 12MHz higher butt oddly performed worse. Im thinking it's because it ran a few degrees warmer trying to boost higher and then hit thermal limit.

As it turns out less issues with 2012 SN cards. As in less of them have died (from what I can see) Good Luck.

It's for people who bought a 2000 series card, the 3000 came out and they want to upgrade. It is not for people to go BUY a 2000 series card because they can not get a 3000 series card. But seeing that you still can not easily buy a 3000 series card....not really in any different of a boat.

Yeah, they are only about to orders placed by 1pm EST on September 17th. Clearly the step up program isn't an EVGA priority. I know several people who have entered the queue to be notified that they can purchase a card outright that have already got their notification and these people entered that queue sometime in October. EVGA is clearly prioritizing new sales rather than step up.
