Just got my Step Up card about 20 minutes ago. Wont be able to install it until Friday when I get paid and can purchase my new PSU, but the wait, for me at least, is finally over.

Did you tracking update after Anaheim? My package still says Departed Anaheim, shipped via UPS ground.

No, it is actually a very good idea if you need a GPU right now. a 2070 and 2080 is still a very powerful GPU for people who wants to play the latest game at a High Setting. If the 3080.

Everyone wants to think AMD will be their Savior, wrong, AMD 6000 series GPU will experience the exact same shortage.

Im still of the view that rather than buying a card and jumping in the queue, just sign up for the email notifications to buy a 3000 series card. People have been getting through that faster than the step up, so it would be more beneficial to sit in that queue than the step up. And you're right about AMD. They may end up having more cards than NVIDIA to start with, but in the end they will fall into the same problem because of this pandemic.

I think you're sort of glossing over the fact that the EVGA e-mail purchase queue didn't even exist for the first two or three weeks after launch, and constantly refreshing and fighting with bots did not look promising at all (don't regret not having wasted my time with that). In 20/20 hindsight the other queue is going faster, but the problem was we didn't even know the other queue was going to happen. I didn't even bother signing up for e-mail notifications at all, because I knew from past experience that they were basically worthless when trying to buy a high demand item.
 
If someone needs a card now, it makes more sense to buy a 2080 that can eventually eat a super mushroom and turn into a 3080, than it does to buy a 2080 that they're just stuck with. I'll grant that for someone who already had a decent card it may have made less sense.

Just wanted to chime in and thank you for providing a reasonable context. I fell right into this situation. My previous card was a Sapphire Vega 56 Nitro+ that went teets up at the WOOOOORST possible time. Im dead in the water, 3 weeks away from the Ampere launch with no GPU to tide me over. I had no interest in buying a 70 dollar card that I'd have to keep as a paperweight if I wast able to secure a card at launch (spoiler alert: I wasn't). So I went to best buy and bought an EVGA 2070 S, so that I could have a working card, and the Step-Up program saves me from the lost value scenario I was worried about.

If the Vega had lasted a bit longer, I would have waited it out. But then, there's still no guarantee that I would have gotten my hands on a 3080 that cost less than a bazillion dollars. My sincerest, heartfelt gratitude to EVGA. I am ansty as hell watching the list, but thankful I have a comparatively stress-free path to an awesome card that will carry me through 4-5 years of gaming bliss.

As an addendum, this wait has also given me the good fortune to see others experience with borderline PSU's, either by way of age or wattage. I retired my Ol Faithful AX850 in favor of a new 850w RMx. Wasn't willing to risk a nearly eight year old PSU killing the new bell cow.

Guess I'm just going to resell this 2070 Super & cancel mine, that's insane.  I know the 3080s are in short supply due to NVidia's supply being woeful but really?  Hasn't even moved past launch day? That's crazy at this point.

evga has shown its face and wants more sales then to keep its loyal fans, are you surprised? Plus have you seen the reviews on the ftw3? Poor bios , poor pcb layout and cheap components. You can cheap out and get a XC3 and just flash the bios and get the same performance. Even Jacob is avoiding questions about the voltage problems

I’ve had a few evga cards since the 8800, but this will be the last time I go out of my way to purchase evga. I understood the step up would be slow, but at this pace we’re months away from even making it through the first few hours of launch day.

I don't understand why people think eVGA makes less off Step Up than regular sales.
 
That's completely untrue.  When you do Step Up, you bought a card from eVGA either directly or through somewhere else.  That's money to them.  You then get in step-up queue, and you pay the difference when your turn comes around... that's more money to them... then when you send in your old card, they check it to make sure it's in good condition, and then resell it as B-Stock, and usually make more off it there than you would on EBay... That's MORE money to them.
 
They make more money off of the Step Up process than they do off retail sales.
 
Which begs the question why the Step Up queue isn't being prioritized more.
 
I'm sure there's a metric crapton of Step Ups on launch day, and we'll never know just how many there were.  It seems like it's moving slow when it's probably moving quite a bit, there are just hundreds of requests on launch day, if not thousands.
 
Also, I already have a 3080 FTW3 Ultra, it's a great card and I've had zero issues with it (had it since the second week of October).  My step up card would be for someone else.

Yeahhhh... makes me sad. I bought a 2070 S through Amazon, but they went out of stock after I ordered it, so it was fulfilled by a 3rd party. Had to return it and re-purchase from Amazon LLC a week later so that it would be eligible for the Step-up. So now I'm at least a week behind the queue. Sucks... :(
