Stormchaser vid.

http://www.thv11.com/
Whats sad, is peoples just keep driving towards the Twisters like its just rain.

Pretty sure I herd Oklahoma, Nebraska and maybe Kansas getting something too. This one in the next towns over (20miles_ish from us). This one got less than a mile from a family friend and they had no damage or worse, and about 4 miles from my parents....

Count ur blessing for sure........

Yeah people seem to not take these seriously. When I lived in Ohio I got to experience an F4... It was pretty fun but the damage was horrific. Hopefully everyone will be okay this year...

Woo Wee...  That's a close call...  Tornadoes IMO are the most intimidating forces on the planet. Stay safe.

Glad to hear everyone is okay. When I saw your post, I realized you live around there. The season has just begun. We can hope that it is not as intense as the Winter season was. My sister lives in Pangburn which is close but not close as you or your family was. My nephew lives on the west side of Little Rock and he was also close. Indiana will get hit too. I always wonder about the fools who drive into these storms. I know we need the data, but these things are very unpredictable. Lost my car one year in a tornado in Arkansas. I jumped out of my car and laid down in a ditch. When it calmed down my car was gone. Glad I did not try and out run it. Stay safe.

Hope it's not too bad of a season, but that's the risk we take because of the geography. That's pretty crazy Grey Beard, I'm glad you made it through there. I have had some close calls before living in Kansas.
BF3PRO , I can't image it being fun although they do look kinda cool.

Thanks. Still get some uneasy feelings when these storms roll in. One thing I did was made sure I thought about it before it happened. I always look for a bailout place when I am and there is a storm approaching since you never know exactly when this kind of thing can develop or when they do where they will go.

We had a slow start on this years storm season, who knows what we'll get this season!

The Stormchaser in the vid, pulled over, its the passenger cars that kept going.  I remember when we first moved back to Arkansas, was raining so hard, I had to pull over, and still see cars going 90mph. Back home "Idaho" we'd have the same kind of idiots driving 70mph on hard snow pack in a in the middle of a whiteout.....

Allergens and the humidity have been herocious this spring, just hope we dont get another crazzy summer or we're are in for a hard time, just hope yall got gardens going this year, for those who can.

Mother Nature is angery at her children, time for us to Buckle-Up!

I almost have my bachelors degree in Science specifically Physics and I have had a love affair with meteorology since I was 5 I am so tempted to change my course of study but that would screw everything up. I went with my buddy along with a professional storm chaser the most fun in my life but they are so unpredictable. A tornado will change directions instantly.

Its the lack of mans understanding that I still find pathetic.  Just because man doesnt understand or the educated idiot how something works or doesnt, they just dismiss as hoopla........I might not have a bachelors or PHD, there's always more than meets the eye.

I agree and personally I'd rather be in a Hurricane than a Tornado. When I moved to NC from Ohio we were hit by Floyd where we lived on the coast and we knew what to expect during that F4 we had no idea it was coming and no time to prepare.

Yep, expecting another lovely year of tornados.  Had my house hardly for 2 months and a tornado comes barreling down within a half mile of it.  Luckily the May 20 2013 tornado lost most of its strength by the time it got down to me, but it was still the widest tornado ever recorded at a EF5 strength.

You would think by now all the states in "Tornado Alley" would required a safe room or storm shelter that can withstand F5 Tornado in all new homes. That's not too much to ask anyone building a new home to do that lives in Tornado Alley.

Fortunately I am south of where all this stuff happens a lot (right at the bottom end of Tornado Alley) so I've never had the experience of going through one. I was scared to death of tornadoes as a kid though, and still am today. Stay safe out there!

City of Moore has made that requirement.  If your house was wiped out by a tornado, it will be required to be rebuilt with a safe room.

That's actually a lot to ask.  While the area around Fayetteville-Bentonville AR is fairly wealthy, most of the 4 states area where this series of storms hit the hardest is very poor.  On top of that, the ground is solid limestone.  Most everything is built elevated a bit on a concrete slab to prevent flooding from flash floods (which is a very serious problem in the Ozarks).  That means the houses are build entirely above ground - if you look at some of the storm pictures from the Little Rock area tornado you'll see what I mean.  So the only way to build a tornado shelter is to build it above ground.

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I don't think you fully comprehend how powerful an F5 Tornado is.  People in Joplin with very sturdy brick homes had no chance against it.   It's like saying every building on the West coast should be built to withstand a 9.0 Earthquake.  Community shelters might make sense - especially as warning times increase.  I know in Joplin most people have arrangements in their neighborhoods to take shelter at a neighbors house.  Sadly I read one story about a family that ran down the street to take shelter, only to find that the neighbor was gone and had forgotten to unlock the back door.  I think my aunt said all but one of them died.  There will always be people out driving around in their cars though or doing something dangerous - even if you give them plenty of warning.  New Orleans had 3 days notice and still over a thousand were killed.

I was a little worried when I heard a tornado had hit Baxter Springs.  My parents and some of my extended family live in Joplin, fortunately they were mostly spared from the 2011 EF5 but like Moore, OK - it seems like they get hit often.  I used to work at Cox South Hospital in Springfield MO and one of my coworkers did most of his training as a psychologist last year helping people from Moore.  I've lived in Iowa and Missouri almost all my life and never seen a tornado, but I see what they can do to towns and it really makes me sick to my stomach when I hear about these outbreaks.

this one destroyed part of my town last fall, 1/2 a mile from my house.  luckily it came thru town like 45 mins b4 Bears noon kickoff, cuz it was travelling at 50-60 mph and the EAS went off with 2 mins warning.  EF4.

I said every new home being built. I didn't say anything about existing homes. Last i checked poor people don't build brand new homes. If your already spending $100K+ to build a new home whats adding $3-6k to final cost of the home.

I live in North Eastern Oklahoma. I wish i had a storm shelter or a bunker would work too.

Yeah people seem to not take these seriously. When I lived in Ohio I got to experience an F4... It was pretty fun but the damage was horrific. Hopefully everyone will be okay this year...

The one on the northeast side of Cincy back in 1999? My cousins used to live in Loveland and their house got leveled. Luckily no one was hurt. On the bright side we rarely get tornadoes in Ohio especially a F4.

You would think by now all the states in "Tornado Alley" would required a safe room or storm shelter that can withstand F5 Tornado in all new homes. That's not too much to ask anyone building a new home to do that lives in Tornado Alley.

3-6k is still a lot of money.  Even if you're spending 150k on a house.  In most cases people are aware of a major storm system coming a day or two in advance, and it's pretty easy to see a major storm system approaching on radar.  I think community shelters would help a lot more and benefit the poor people who can't afford shelters anyways - chances are they're living in a poorly built house or trailer.

Blacksapphire it was in 97 abd in Hebron right outside Columbus and near Buckeye lake... It might have been an F3 but we had to drive to the firestation... After that we rented a bobcat and dug a bunker and folliwed bluepritnts released in the 70s for bomb shelters haha. Glad everyone was safe.

When your paying for the new home over 25-30 years you won't even notice the 3-6k on top of 150k. The safe room will add value to the home and might lower insurance premiums. That alone would make it worth the extra cost when building a new home in Tornado Alley.

Community shelters would benefit everyone, not just the poor who don't have a shelter at home . I bet businesses would open their doors to the public if states would pass laws limiting liability for anyone that operates a storm shelter.
