Yeah, getting old sucks.
Had to use a magnifying glass to verify if it was right or not.
Sigh.

I was wondering.
I have an old ARCTIC Accelero Hybrid Extreme VGA Cooler ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186067 ) from my old gtx580.
I wonder if the holes would line up on that thing to put it on....
Not that I would try (it would need SO much more fan than that thing has), but would be interesting if it could actually work.
:)

Threw an old video card in, and it works fine.
Fan works, video works perfect, now to try gaming.

Didnt think so.
I was going to put the 580 in the system anyway for dedicated phys-x, so that will not make it hotter anyway, or not much anyway.

Well, I decided to take it apart again to see if the thermal paste was a good seat, and if I could fix the fan issue.
Well, the fan plug had worked itself out of it seating, I popped it back in and its good now (although I HAD to turn on performance mode in nvidia settings, and use PrecisionX to make the fan speed actually do anything).

So, here is what I have learned from this:
The Titan X is SO much slower than my 780gtx. The desktop comes up right away, the apps launch right away, with the 780gtx. With the Titan, everything is slower and hitchy, like the video card memory is overheating or something.
:(

So, should I still rma the card?
I think I should, since I have been having issues with it for 2-3 months now.
Or, would they send me the same card back if they dont find anything wrong with it?

OK, RMA'd.
Have had issues with this card since May, so....Yeah. RMA.
I am going to miss the memory until the new one gets here though.
The old video card only has 3gb, and gets pegged at 99% memory usage during gaming.

Well, looks like the new card will be here tomorrow.

I have a question:
In the RMA email that EVGA sent me, it says I can purchase an EAR, and gives a link  to http://www.evga.com/support/ear/
What is EAR? Is that just the cross shipping? I didnt do that, I just did a regular shipped mine to them, and they got it and shipped me one.

Also, since I bought the original Titan X brand new, I have a lifetime warrenty right? Just because it had to be RMA'ed doesnt mean that lifetime warrenty is gone right?

Ummmm.
I just opened my video card box today (the RMA), and it doesnt have the rubber top for the SLI slot.
I sent my card in with that part on it and the plastic plugs in the hdmi/dp ports (which, they gave those back). (they only said NOT to send in the stuff that wasnt on the card).
How do I get the rubber sli top back?
Pretty darn bummed out that they didnt put that on. Dust will now settle in that slot.

you dont need the rubber SLI finger caps if the card is safe in your case. I Probably have a few lying around though in my misc parts boxes. So if it gives you piece of mind. I can mail you one :)

Ill look for one later tonight when I get home from work.

Yes, very nice of you.
I will hit up the sales or rma dept moday and see if they have one.
I took the one off of my 780 (would rather have that card get dust or blown (not very likely) than the the titan x), and it fit, but its smaller than the titan x one was/is.

Re: Titan X going out ? 2016/11/23 16:03:19 (permalink)
Freakin great.
Now my replacement is going out.
I found out what it is at least though: The video board 'flexes' downwards (too heavy) and then it starts acting all wonky (memory issues, wont send signal to monitor, is super duper slow). I picked up the end when it wouldnt send a signal to my monitor, and picking up the end made it work. A few days before, I had cleaned up the dust, and noticed I had unhooked a fan cable, that used to kind of keep the end of the video card up (it was going around the 6-pin and 8-pin power connectors, kind of keeping the card straight without me knowing it). So, me unhooking the fan cable made the video card kind of dip down on the power hookups corner. I put the fan cable back the way it was, and now I dont have issues with signal loss anymore, but I am getting the same exact issues as before with my old card: Sometimes the computer is slow (loading the graphics), and sometimes its normal (usually ONLY when I have MSI Afterburner on).

Idle is 88F (31c) and it hardly EVER gets past 118F (47.7C) during gaming.

So, I think I know what the issue is now: The end of the card is just too heavy, and it starts bending the video board, causing all kinds of problems.

Should I send in for another card?
This is getting just ridiculous.
:(
If I do send in for another card, I am going to put my FULL TOWER case on its side just so the stupid video card doesnt bend and get messed up.

I wish I could, but I lost my job last year, and am disabled with no income.
This Titan was suppsed to last me years.
:(

Crud.
The display driver just crashed, first time ever (well, since both Titans at least, they have never crashed before, either one, til now).
Sigh.
