Just got the back-plates for my Titan X cards in the mail today, and were about to install them
when i noticed something i haven't really thought of before...

It would appear that the warranty stickers are placed on-top of the ram chips on the cards.

Sticker placement:

Will this interfere with the thermal pads on the back-plates in any way?
And what about the grease the comes out of the thermal pads after some use, will this grease ruin the sticker/make it unreadable?

Thermal pad grease:

(that's not from the actual Titan X back-plates, but it describes what i mean)

I'll be sure to take some good pictures of them.
Just a little concerned about the grease as manufacturers are rather picky about those warranty stickers lol.

You can remove the sticker. Just make sure you put it in a safe place for later as you will need to send the sticker in with the card if you ever need to RMA the card later down the road.

I can understand your concerns when installing the backplate. We have no issues with you move the sticker to a better spot on the card as long as the sticker itself is still in one piece and legible. I would not recommend completely removing the sticker as there is a potential of loosing that sticker which would void your warranty. Moving the sticker further down the PCB and having the backplate on top should secure that sticker so it does not come off.

Now I need to take off my back plate and move the sticker.  The thought of it becoming illegible never even crossed my mind.

What use is knowledge if there is no understanding?~Stobaeus

That's really good to hear, and thank you.

I might move it to the bottom of the pcb, above the pci-e fingers right below the screws
as that seems like the perfect spot for it.

^^ I think that's where I relocated mine to.   Either that or I moved it to be vertical next to the IO bracket.

The oil that comes out of the pads is the wetting.  Its what makes better thermal interface between the plate and the card.

I've now moved the sticker to the bottom of the PCB and it looks nice.
Sticker came off easily in one piece by using tweezers, and then running a cotton swab over the back of the sticker at it's new location a few times to further press it against the PCB so it won't come off.

It almost looks like it was applied like that at the factory lol.

^Tweezers and cotton swab?.....how very delicate of you .

Actually I just wanted to thank you for bringing this topic up. I'm not sure if the included thermal pads would have damaged the sticker in any way in its original position (on the VRAM), but having taken a second look back at the card, I can't believe I just slapped that back plate on without any consideration to this ( I must have been eager to just put the build back together since it's quite a pain building in a miniITX case).

That is a great place for the serial number sticker. You can still read off the numbers if you need any warranty services

Didn't want to touch the underside with my fingers too much haha.

Not sure if the wetting would have damaged the sticker either, but at-least i won't have to think about that now.
