Wondering what things to be on the lookout for to disable in GeForce experience. Looks like I have to install it to get the "free" games that came with my new 2080 super. I've avoided it forever until now though. Don't have an account for it etc. I don't need any streaming stuff or game settings tuning etc.

If you don't want GeForce Experience then all you have to do is download it, install it, redeem your codes and uninstall GeForce Experience again.

You don't need to keep using it, they just use it to verify you own a product as to deter people selling promotional codes.

You get an Epic Games key for Control and a Bethesda Launcher key for YoungBlood.

Years ago a tech news site claimed GeForce Experience was data mining users. That caused people to not trust or want to install it. Only thing i don't like about ShadowPlay, it's default overlay toggle is CTRL+Z, world of warcraft hide hud toggle is CTRL+Z. If i cared about recording gameplay, i would probably use GFE Shadowplay again.

Well, went ahead and installed it.  Looks like it was just one toggle to disable the overlay which houses all the stuff.  Just gonna leave it like that, and of course told it not to modify game settings on its own.  At this point I was mostly avoiding it since it required an account to log in to even do anything with it.

If you ever did want to use Shadowplay, you can always go into the settings and change it from ALT+Z to whatever you want.

I don't want it.

Simple as that. Regardless of SUPPOSED uses of it, I find it annoying. I don't like things scanning my drive (other than an AV)..I don't like things monitoring drivers. I'm quite capable of checking and updating on my own.

Lazy people like it? Ok, fine, you use it. I'll stick to my method without another layer of garbage on my machine.

Its a unnecessary data mining piece of malware disguised as a game settings helper, which usually, all it does is conflict with other in game and nvcc game settings. Its soaks up cycles for nothing while its running telemetry and who knows what else and where its sending it. Shadowplay, totally unnecessary too. Afterburner has screen capture and video capture with settings built right in and you can setup what keys to use for each and where to send the files each and it works great. I can run my normal high game settings and still run video capture with no cpu hit in game even with my old system.

Ok, guess I'm gonna rip it back out then lol.  Yeah I have zero need for shadowplay.  If I stream/record stuff I have Streamlabs OBS for that.

I installed it recently (for all of 15 minutes) only to get game codes.  As soon as I had them, I uninstalled it.

It's trash bloatware. Everything it does can be done better through third party utilities the don't require logging in or running in the background all the time.

I use it for the shadowplay and Nvidia Freestyle. Love how I can make dx12 games such as Rage 2 and Metro Exodus not look like crap with the sharpening and lighting tools. Otherwise, the games look washed out and blurry as hell. This fixes all of that. ENB doesn't work with DX12 games, so now I can keep ray tracing/DX12 on and still use an ENB-like application.

Can Afterburner automatically record the last 5 minutes and allow you to save the video on command? If not, then it is missing a crucial feature that I actually use.

That just means that it is constantly recording but throwing out the footage unless you tell it to save it. AKA constantly hogging system resources.

I don't know if Afterburner has that feature. I think Fraps had that feature. Or was it Afterburner?

I've been running it for a few months now and honestly haven't had any issues with it.  I'm mostly using it at this point to dumb down the download/install of new drivers though.  I'm not using any of the other features.  Though I do occasionally look at the game settings sections to get ideas for what I should change.  Especially for some of my lesser played games that I haven't touched much since building my new system last year.

I would agree that it doesn't seem as much of a burden on the PC and does help keep drivers updated but it's not that needed if you read PC hardware news and see posts about new drivers or like once a month see if a new driver is available.

For sure, I still do that stuff anyway.  GFE just lets me be extra lazy with a one click to download and one click to install.  Don't have to tell it where to download and then go find it and run it.  Of course that way you don't get to keep a copy of the installer for later use though if something happens and you need to reinstall or roll back so there is that.

I can't stand the updates anymore, they seem to need endless updates.
