https://www.techpowerup.com/307565/thermalright-hr-10-pro-heatsink-prepared-for-gen5-ssds Thermalright has quietly updated its product page this week, and has rolled out another SSD cooler that looks quite familiar. The HR-10 2280 PRO M.2 SSD heatsink is now featured on their website, where it sits close to a similar looking model - the now standard HR-10 2280. This non-PRO version was revealed late last month as a step up from the older HR-09 SSD heatsink. The brand new HR-10 2280 PRO sports a key upgrade over its passively cooled older siblings - a 30 mm 12 V cooling PWM fan has been integrated into the middle of the fin stack's body. Thermalright's latest M.2 heatsink also fully prepared for and compatible with the next generation of SSDs - its revised design will accommodate Gen 5 solid-state drive standards. The HR-10 Pro is consists of four 5 mm-thick nickel-plated copper heatpipes that make contact with a user appointed M.2-2280 SSD, over a mirror-finish nickel-plated copper base-plate. The heatpipes loop through a dense aluminium fin-stack with slats designed to maximize surface area for highly effective heat dissipation. A die-cast metal top-plate with company branding completes the package. The HR-10 PRO weighs in at 95 g (so 10 g more than the standard HR-10). The heatsink measures 23.7 mm x 90.3 mm x 43.8 mm (WxDxH). Thermalright has not revealed any pricing or stock availability at the time of writing. Heatsink specifications: Dimension:L90.3 mm x W23.7 mm x H43.8 mm Weight:95 g Heat pipes:5 mm heatpipe x 4 units Warranty:1 years Fan specifications: Dimension:L30 mm x W30 mm x H10 mm Rated Speed:3500-6500 RPM±10% (MAX) Rated voltage:12 V DC Ampere:0.05 A Connector:4 Pin (PWM Fan connector) I want to know how loud that fan will be at top speed.

The noise is a good point to question and also where they expect us to fit that is the other. It might work with some motherboards but some put the M.2 slots near the PCI-e slots and you could run into problems fitting graphics cards. I guess luckily SLI builds is not a problem anymore so it might have some room.

I've never seen or heard a small fan that wasn't a screamer. The specs says all you need to know. You all know the drill. Wait almost a decade for fanless power efficient PCIe 5 drive. Hopefully the storage will have increased above 4TBs by then.

Or maybe the option will be to go with something "slow" that cools better. If the PCIe 5 drive is running at "slow" PCIe 4 or PCIe 3 speeds it's still going to move data at blink of the eye speeds and might not need a huge cooler to do it without generating too much heat.

Rated Speed: 3500-6500 RPM±10% (MAX) You are absolutely right, small fans with high RPM are bad combo.

Yeah, this is definitely going to spark more m.2 water coolers.

Most of you seem to be forgetting how Thermalright made superior cooling products before leaving the west market as the new age enthusiast complained about noise. Yes it's a screamer, anything with superior cooling with the right fans is normally going to be loud and annoying for those who want silence or less noise. Some won't move to water cooling and are strictly air cooling. Faster new tech comes out normally means some insane form of cooling is needed at the start before the tech is refined.

Ha oh I know noise well. I still have a few Vantec Tornados laying around that I experimented with back in the day. Man at top speed you would eventually just go deaf! Definitely for server and away from everything else use use. I actually use right now 120x120x38 173cfm 4000rpm 45db fans on my radiator, but I control them via an OCTO always trying to balance between noise and airflow. Even if that tiny fan only flows at max during peak heat, I'd see most people getting disturbed and annoyed by a sudden weeeeeeeeeee noise.

It sure seems like it, like they used to several years back. IMO, they should have waited till they furthered power and thermal efficiency. These companies are wasting their time trying to sell to most gamers and enthusiast builds that are built around low audibles. It would be a complete contradiction to add one pieces that screams on top of its lungs on every load. All they had to do is see the reactions to louder than normal AIO pumps. All heck would break loose. This isn't the 2000s-2010s anymore.
